As a person who lives 4-5 blocks away from the CHAZ area in Seattle, it seems to be contained as of now, but there is concern it could be expanding out as they look to occupy more area. And if they choose to do that, there's reason to believe our Mayor wont do sh*t to stop them... We have weak leadership here in this state, and this is the end result. What concerns me is that Seattle essentially laid out the template for occupying an area. I would guess more cities will have these issues relatively soon, with additional compounds popping up... I think this needs to be stopped immediately. It shouldnt even be entertained... I drove by the CHAZ area after i dropped my partner off at the hospital where shes a nurse.. I had a very uneasy feeling driving around the compound. Like something bad was going to happen there eventually, and it wasnt a safe place to be... just odd times.. election years are always a tad bit crazier, and this election cycle is proving just that..

I am sorry to tell you.

Because grand theft of 6 blocks isn't covered in the constitution.

Your opinion of what's going on in Seattle isn't either.

It is a matter for the people to decide through their elected State and city officials.

We are, after all, a representative democracy, aka a Republic.

Time to cut out the middle man and make decisions for ourselves. It's obvious we have depended on local authority too long and have forgotten how village justice works.

Ideally, I agree with you.

Practically? We ain't there as a species yet, IMO.

Is that AK legal in Washington State?

At least this fellow has a good taste in firearms.

Probably not legal to walk around Seattle streets with that thing.
But it's okay...he gets a pass.

It's fine. Those are no longer Seattle streets, so Washington gun laws don't apply. It's CHAZ, and that's the issue. Can anyone just say, "Hey, this is my property and these are my laws." where they want now? Because that's what these kids have done. They've seized land, declared it theirs, and declared the laws null and void.

I saw reports that Chief Best was in the district yesterday, and also, that the reports of roving gangs exhorting citizens were either non-existent or overstated.

Do you have any information on those aspects?

Long thread gave a brief look and didn't see it, but apologies if already posted. . . .

Ahem;

"Nuke them from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

Okay.

Thanks.

Now show us in the Constitution where political parties are given any authority at all, or are even mentioned.

Particulary in their stanglehold on the election process in the States.

Thanks in advance.

That’s the thing. In the United States. You can form political parties. Think of the USA as an open party system then. In a one party system, only the ruling party is allowed control. All other parties are illegal.

See the difference? In the USA, you are protected to be in any political party you choose. In a one party system, there is by law only one party to choose. If you are not part of the legal ruling party, then you cannot hold office.

In the USA, you can run for election regardless of party.

See the difference?

Again, the Seattle Police Chief was walking the streets yesterday, getting ready to reopen the precinct.

I'm aware of the facts and the history, thanks for your very simple explantation. If you have kids, you might share it with them.

I'm also aware that both the Republcians and Democrats have talked about dominating the government for years and have acted to shut out the other party from governance completely.

Your comment that anyone can run for office equally with the official candidates from the Rs or the Ds seems fairly ignorant if I may so so; that's not a real practical reality in the US, so if you believe that, maybe do some more study.

As much as I enjoy bashing the political parties, it's also not the topic.

Yup, there's been chatter that the local businesses within the CHAZ area have been being extorted out of $500 for "protection" and to be able to operate freely within the zone... Also, they created a community garden in Cal Anderson park that looks like a group of High Schoolers made.. im sure it could feed maybe 4 people... also, they had a bunch of food initially, which was looted from local grocery stores, but the homeless in the area emptied out a good amount of their food and apparently they're running low....

We've been waiting for the city to cut power/water/telecom for the area, but they havent... and im sure they wont do it any time soon with the Mayor portraying this as a fun block party...

My neighbor down the street has a bigger house...plus, I like the pool he has in the back yard.
Does this mean I can legally take over his property and declare it an autonomous zone?

Duh.

If it weren't for envy followed almost immediately by thievery I wouldn't have my priceless artwork collection of crayon drawings lifted from my neighbor's fridges.

You really don’t get the difference. If a political party in the USA holds enough power, it can investigate the other party. Or the FBI in the USA is ideally free to investigate any party if there is probable cause.

In a truly one party system, you do the parties bidding. If you fail, the full force of the government is brought down. And your out. With no rights. Often ending in strange accidents, political prison, or political death sentences.

Now the mayor is calling these children who say they are no longer part of the US "patriots". I think the mayor has missed something in this dialogue.
