Seattle - driver shoots protestor. Crime or Justified?

What would have happened to him if he hadn't opened fire? Isn't this the exact reason why you would want to legally own a gun?

From viewing all the videos. One video shows the protestors putting barricades up against his car. Another video shows after his car was barricaded a large man assaulting him while in his vehicle still and then the gunshot rang out. The last video shows after the shot was fired him leaving his car and turning himself in to the police. Completely justified in my opinion.

Pointed that out to my wife first watch through. Was the first thing I noticed when I saw him go to move through the crowd. Very questionable, but he could be ex-mil, and I know some guys that like to be fully locked and stocked everywhere they go. Then there is the weapon handling, he doesn't look as trained as the dude who took the two police ARs, but he is practicing safe trigger finger placement, and holding his weapon in CRP.

I think if he wanted to create chaos he would have done it a lot better. He had the vehicle, and a lot more rounds if the mag was full.

Here is a video showing the beginning, he is driving down the street with animals hanging on his car obviously trying to get away from them.
When they block his way, one animal tries to pull him out...bang!

After watching that video, I’m disappointed he only got shot in the arm.

Is it a stand your ground state?

He will also have to prove he was in danger of his life.

I think in the end he will get manslaughter. Not murder.

No one was killed, the most serious thing he could potentially be charged with after all the facts are known is attempted murder/manslaughter or assault with a deadly weapon.

Not really so clear cut. You can’t claim self defense when you’re the first aggressor. Pine street has had barricades and fences put up on it throughout the protests, so if dude ignored those and drove towards a crowd of people, he’s going to have a hard time arguing he wasn’t the one that escalated things.
