As long as individual nations need resources, and other nations have those resources, there will be fighting. Two of the biggest causes of wars through history are religion and resources.

This is true, and I think this will only change when we have technologies that means we are not dependent on natural on things like oil and gas.

But I am afraid you are right. We will always have conflicts while we depend on these. Suppose the question is, will that be our destruction?

I guess I say this because if there are civilisations out there in the universe, how many did not get passed the stage we are now? For the exact same reason we are fighting for now?

Get passed this stage, then I try believe great things could happen.

That may very well amount to what constitutes The Great Filter.

Yes it does. Will we be the fortunate ones? Impossible to tell at the moment.

It depends on what we manage to spawn before we go the way of the dinosaurs.

Biological as we are it's not all it's cracked up to be, longevity wise anyhoo.

Humanity 2.0 may not suffer or at least severely mitigate such limitations.

Bring on the singularity i say, whilst we still have the capability to do so.

Is this taking into account our submarines, one of which could obliterate China? Not sure how they win a war where we nuke them if we start to lose. Of course they would retaliate, but there would be no China to declare victory. A horrific draw at best.

Why would the Pentagon leak the US has a weakness?

I wonder if this helps lay the ground work for the US trading Taiwan to China in return for China enabling Korean reunification.

Because we are in an economic downturn and at some point someone is going to suggest cutting military spending. And at that point someone else is going to respond with "We could lose a war to China by 2030". At this point the feds will get out their checkbooks and start writing checks for all those weapons systems we will need to defeat the red menace.

That's not a draw, that's a protracted nuclear winter, where the winner gets to clean up a neverending mess for the next 1000 years or so.

Good luck policing that kind of world.

May as well target your own cities and get it over and done with sharpish.

I think the only way that the US could defend Taiwan is if the ChiCom regime wants it intact.

Otherwise the US and Taiwan would be unable to defend them / selves if the goal is to burn the island down to the bedrock and I would not put that past the ChiComs and the new mao XiXi

On the other hand, the PLAN would have an exciting but short life in either scenario.

This is why we should allow Taiwan to buy whatever they want and let them resume their nuclear program. It is the only way.

This would be a good punishment for the Chicoms

Those weapons are already in development. They have been for several years.

The only winning move is to either not play OR to quote the WOPR, allow Taiwan the means to defend itself.

We need to get past our addiction of cheap goods and realize that the Communist Government and their god head Xi are the enemy NOT the Chinese people. Helping Taiwan will allow a Democracy to defend itself AND keep the dragon in check
