Here's an interesting article. Looks like the virus may have started hitting Wuhan late summer, early fall.

Interesting - thanks for the link! Seeing the quick progress of infections in western countries it’s hard to believe it could’ve been in China that long before they had to lockdown. Could it have been a less deadly earlier form of the Virus which eventually mutated into the one that caused the Wuhan lockdown? Does that suggest that Autumn and winter encouraged mutation into something worse? Hope not!

Another reason it should have never got outside of China like it did and why China should have closed its borders at the beginning of Dec with no one in or out. They have a lot to answer/pay for.

I think partly because the numbers have dropped considerably and news has moved onto the BLM stuff going on.
It's a strange one, as life has changed (temporarily?!) dramatically in many ways - social distancing rules etc but there hasn't been the huge surge that many were expecting. Our field hospitals here have not even been used and now on standby. Was it an overreaction? Hard to say, as we can't predict the future.

I do wonder if this is the calm before the storm, if there will be a second wave and like the Spanish Flu, will be much worse. Or if this is a fleeting disease that burns out... there are so many conflicting opinions on it, that it is hard to ascertain the truth in it all!

There are many issues now with the economic downturn in the US and soon here in the UK. Many out of work, I think in the US it's over 40 million new unemployed? So combined with the BLM anger and general anger at lockdown, I don't think that it is going to dissipate so easily. 2020 is just a crazy year.

I get the feeling people think this is over, as the protests have shown so many people coming together with no consequences (here in the UK no one is arrested or fined for attending). So I think people are just thinking '# it, i'm going out, seeing whoever etc'. So far there has been a steady decline in cases in the UK and so if that continues despite mass gatherings and increased social activity then we should be ok.

However, in other countries you can see they have put the brakes on easing restrictions as cases flare up, so we might be stuck in this 'covid cycle' for a while e.g. -
www.timesofisrael.com...
www.nytimes.com...

What does everyone on here think? Do people think a 2nd wave will be incoming and worse? Is anyone prepping for that?
I am personally glad I prepped, it got me through many weeks when I didn't go to the shops and has put me in a different mindset. With so much uncertainty, it is reassuring to have some control over your own personal situation and I will definitely keep on with it - will less urgency though!

Wise words! I think it’s fool hardy hubris to go rushing back to normal. Other countries have put the brakes on after flare ups, but they knew about the flare ups. In the U.K. we haven’t got a fully functioning Track and trace system so we won’t know about those flare ups until ICUs start filling up again. By that point it’s no longer a flare up and the R will be around 2.

Think people are angry now - wait til they’re told we need to go back into mass extended lockdown once again. If that happens then all the genuine sympathy the BLM movement deservedly has will vanish as a majority blames these protests for putting them all back into lockdown.

Hope I’m wrong!

Yeah and I can't see people being so willing to go into a lockdown situation again, it seems people are thinking 'that's it' etc and I think if the country went into lockdown again people would not be as compliant.
I heard today New Zealand has said they are free of Covid, but they have a good track and trace system, which we don't.
But on the other hand, the track and trace system is a bit 1984... telling the authorities where you have been, who you have seen and for how long etc etc... i don't like that at all. So even if there was a good system for that here, would we be willing to divulge that information to the govt?! Even if you had nothing to hide, it's the principle of it. It feels like sleepwalking into dangerous territory...

I'm still amazed at that idea.

How did they get Iran to go along with it? being they are the arch enemy of the west. Are they staging fake coffins and putting in crisis actors?

How about Brazil? are they all actually feeling healthy and its all in their head?

What about the people on cruise ships, did they really die?

And the US Aircraft carriers, pretty amazing the captain was willing to fall on his sword for this 'fraud'.. and all those sailors too!

I mean, that's a hell of a lot of crisis actors there..

What proof do you have that its fabricated and a fraud? You push that concept like its written in stone are really become rude and kinda off putting with the way you discuss it, so please I'd be willing to read and watch what ever you produce to challenge my understanding..

My friends in the UK who's parents are still in hospital after being diagnosed positive will be thrilled to hear its all a fraud..

The virus is real enough.
The drama was overplayed.
They had people buying stores out of hand sanitizer and disinfectants, only to tell us very recently that it is difficult to contract the virus from surfaces.
They told us that masks were useless at the beginning, only to mandate that everyone wear one later.
Originally they told us that you could get the virus from people that were asymptomatic.... now they admit that asymptomatic people do not spread the virus.
In the hardest hit states in the US, most of the deaths occurred in nursing homes. Those same states mandated that nursing homes HAD to accept people with COVID.
Now, in two hard-hit states, New York and Pennsylvania, the state officials are fudging the numbers to make it look like not as many people died in the nursing homes... since they have been called out as having caused those deaths to happen.

Yes, there is a virus, and certain governors used it to their political advantage... hurting (in some cases killing) their own constituents in the process.

That strange, because there's various scientists who say otherwise..

SARS-CoV-2 remained active on plastic and stainless steel surfaces for two to three days under the conditions in this experiment. It remained infectious for up to 24 hours on cardboard and four hours on copper. The virus was detectable in aerosols for up to three hours. These times will vary under real-world conditions, depending on factors including temperature, humidity, ventilation, and the amount of virus deposited.

www.nih.gov...

The study suggests that people may acquire the coronavirus through the air and after touching contaminated objects. Scientists discovered the virus is detectable for up to three hours in aerosols, up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard and up to two to three days on plastic and stainless steel.

"This virus is quite transmissible through relatively casual contact, making this pathogen very hard to contain," said James Lloyd-Smith, a co-author of the study and a UCLA professor of ecology and evolutionary biology. "If you're touching items that someone else has recently handled, be aware they could be contaminated and wash your hands."

www.sciencedaily.com...

And I don't agree at all with the nursing home concept, thats completely different to whats happening in the UK and Asia..

I think people are believing some junk science because they really want it to be a 'conspiracy' but the entire world cannot be in on it.

I have no doubt some are playing it up for political or financial reasons.. but the severity of what has occured should be considered trivial.

it was never just a flu.. lock downs have worked and there other factors which result in good or bad infection rates, ie Sunlight, Vitamin D, Hygiene, size of dose etc etc..

I'm sorry but I will never buy the idea this was a fraud!

Your NIH surfaces story is from March.
The CDC says this on May 22:

CDC says COVID-19 not caught easily from surfaces and 40% of transmission occurs before people feel sick By Kathryn Watson May 22, 2020 / 1:26 PM / CBS News The Centers for Disease Control updated its guidance earlier this month to emphasize the coronavirus does not spread easily on surfaces, focusing more on human-to-human transmission. And new planning documents from the CDC contain more of its estimates about the transmission of the virus. Touching surfaces and objects is now listed under the heading, "The virus does not spread easily in other ways" on the CDC web page.

Notice the tale they are still using about it spreading asymptomatically....
But the WHO says that asymptomatic persons don't spread it....

They had us shut down our economy when they had NO idea what they were talking about to begin with. Either that or they lied.

Bravo 👏

Some may pick apart a detail here or there and for sure understanding this virus is a moving target and stuff will change. But those details aren’t arguments as to why the virus doesn’t exist.

Coming up with explanations to counter your points above Regarding Iran and Brazil would be the argument, but I don’t I see anyone coming up with that any time soon.

Did you intend to link to an article supporting your claim? If so, you didn't, that's a link for the home page of the washington post with constantly changing articles.

They had us shut down our economy when they had NO idea what they were talking about to begin with. Either that or they lied.
Many of the predictions were wrong, but you can sort of see what happened. They tried to pretend it wasn't much of a threat, then New York City got overwhelmed with excess deaths, as did some other places like Italy, at which time they realized pretending it was just another flu wasn't a good strategy. Then they perhaps over-reacted but they couldn't just do nothing and let the New York scenario play out everywhere while doing nothing. As more research trickles in the understanding improves, doesn't necessarily mean "they were lying" to begin with, though China almost certainly was not forthcoming about how and when the virus originated.

They are still saying the virus can be spread via surfaces, though not easily. I don't know if that's so much of a change as you seem to think, you could always wash your hands to prevent that transmission mode and that's still the case.

Are they staging fake coffins and putting in crisis actors?

No, they are simply lying about the numbers, and what they actually died of in many cases.

How about Brazil? are they all actually feeling healthy and its all in their head?

You are confused. I didn't say there was no virus. I said it is being manipulated and taken advantage of and blowne way, way out of proportion.

Yes, some people have died from it, and yes, some people should take precautions.

But it isn't Ebola. And now we're learning that it really isn't spread by the asymptomatic.

So, again - ##YourNewNormal.

Thank you for alerting me to that WaPo thing.
Time

For months, researchers have warned that people without any COVID-19 symptoms could still be silent carriers of the disease, making it that much harder to get the pandemic under control—and that much more important to take precautions like social distancing and wearing a mask, even if you feel fine. So it came as a surprise when Maria Van Kerkhove, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) technical lead for COVID-19, said at a press briefing on June 8 that asymptomatic transmission appears to be “very rare.” Her statement came just days after the organization directed healthy people living in areas with widespread community transmission to wear fabric face masks in public to help contain the advance of the disease.

They are still saying the virus can be spread via surfaces, though not easily. I don't know if that's so much of a change as you seem to think, you could always wash your hands to prevent that transmission mode and that's still the case.

They had people scrubbing and disinfecting their groceries and mail before it came into their homes, FFS.
