Well it appears to squashing the curve in Aotearoa/New Zealand. We have gone from 70ish confirmed cases per day to just 29 confirmed and 4 suspected in just 4 days. Cant give the exact figures cos cant see ministry of health website right now, but it looks like our quarantine is starting to work after just 2 weeks. Only one death so far.

Of course. You have a lot less selfish people going to the store every day unnecessarily, putting other people at risk, then bragging about it here.

My State, South Australia, had just 1 new case detected today. New cases have been single digits for almost a week. Two weeks ago we were getting over 30 cases a day. We have 7 people in ICU and have had 2 deaths over the last two days. At this rate, my state, and places like New Zealand will have eradicated the virus entirely within the next 6-8 weeks. Trouble is, we will have to keep our borders shut for who knows how long...

Aloha. There are some stupid idiots though, like the health minister who thought being aloud to exercise once a day meant driving an hour to go mountain biking was a good thing. He just got demoted. And the idiot who filmed himself coughing and sneezing in the supermarket to scare people, he got arrested.

You know what's even more fantastic? Camps filled with non compliers doing manual labor.

Sweden has the same numbers and they didn't have a lockdown. All numbers will go down now as the flu season is over.

Shhhhhhhhh! You're right and I like it that way! I do go during the senior hour -- because I can, and because I like to shop early and that's when the store opens -- and the store is virtually empty! Last time I went, there was one other young man in line in front of me, and we had a nice conversation. I usually use self-checkout, but they weren't open. But no one takes any precautions. No six foot rule, no masks, no wipes. I bring my own wipes so I don't really touch anything except with a wipe -- I even wipe down door handles and self-checkout screens and so on. Only one time have I seen another lady, about my age, doing the same thing.

On the neighborhood front...

I have never seen so many dog walkers and joggers in my neighborhood as I have the last few weeks! I'll be working in my gardens and they love stopping to chat. One neighbor brought us some of their first harvest. Folks were barbecuing, visitors coming and going, mowing lawns and working in their yards, trimming trees. One home has been grading his backyard and is now putting up a block wall around his yard. My neighborhood seems to be making the most of this! I personally love it.

And at the beginning, my neighbors all pulled together to check on others and make sure everyone was taken care of. The neighbor who works at Home Depot offered to get toilet paper for anyone who needed, the guy who runs the water shop offered to bring water to whoever needed it and couldn't get it, a couple restaurant workers have offered to bring food to anyone who needed... So far everyone seems to be doing okay. More than okay.

...but nobody's been sick for months around the neighborhood. I don't think that's a coinky-dink.

So are our neighborhoods different? Or is this more common across the country than we know?

I've seen conflicting reports on smokers to be honest. The more "in depth" reports seem to be of the conclusion that smokers are less likely to get Covid-19 (or at least the bad strains) BUT if they do get a serious strain then they are very high risk of death.

As a smoker myself, i can't decide if this is good or bad news!

Sweden: 9141 cases/793 deaths/905 cases per 1 million people/79 deaths per 1 million people

Australia: 6104 cases/51 deaths/239 cases per 1 million people/2 deaths per 1 million people

Sweden total population: 10 million
Australian total population 25 million

Australia is well on its way to smashing this thing.

Infection and death toll numbers being monstrously disfigured to suit an agenda. In years to come, new investigations and further knowledge of these times will prove this..... I'm sure.

It's a very serious virus, that I'm not denying....... but it's being used to distill fear around the world. This virus is not the reason for what's going on, it's the excuse they (whoever 'they' maybe) are using to achieve their goals.

We have yet to realise what is truly going on.

There will be many questions asked in hindsight no doubt, about whether the cure was worse than the disease (economically speaking). But at the same time, left to rip through communities unchecked, this virus will reap mass death - especially in places of high population density. Just imagine for a minute being in government right now, the decisions that you would have to make. Whatever decision you make is going to be potentially disastrous. You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. What it boils down to is that the whole situation is really really s%^&.

P.S. I heard it referred to as 'The Covidian' the other day. A fitting term I thought.
