Good enough.
Im not sure how I got the idea about the same time now. I was trying to catch up on alot of reading and may have confused what you wrote with something else.

On the thing about bitter NT writers...
I would rather study and let the jury stay home for a bit before judging them as bitter.
Here is why

Rev 2:20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

You have to realize that back in the day...the 'other' religion in the world was dominated by the sex goddess. The church services were orgies and sex was nuthin but a thing. Much like today.
That rule could have been made up for just that reason.

What ever the reason... I cannot agree on you about 'bitter' NT writers. God breathed it. So that is the source of all.

I don't know how it was done hundreds of years ago, but up to date we see a massive religious diversity to select from. If a particular community has the capability to hold (and force) their believers upon things, they will probably do that. --- this reminds me of the infamous Yahweh ben Yahweh (jailed for his murderous acts).

Still there is a worldwide decrease in the Catholic religion (announced last year) m and possibly this may affect the entire Christian religion, too. Taking it short: there are just not enough believers.

No wonder that the Christianity is a big business, it relies on the believers and the donaters.

they were so ignorant in those days] were her added punnishments.. Adam's were.. working.. thing is women are not biologically exempt from working [like men are from painful procreating] so it's not really a 'seperate' and exclusive punnishment.

A. Menstruation is not mentioned for Eve.
B. G-d punished them both separately for their actions. Eve for inadvertantly disobeying G-d and Adam for listening to his wife. The only "added" punishment I see is them being expelled. G-d did that so that Adam wouldn't eat from the Tree of Life and become immortal. Proverbs 3.18, "She is a tree of life to those who grasp her, And whoever holds on to her is happy." Just thought I would add another scripture showing the feminine wisdom.
C. Keep in mind it is Jewish text, so yes women were exempt from working.

Ok well...did you ever read Genesis?

I thought about studying french but I'll let you know.. would that make me anti semetic too?

Nah, French will help with the pronunciation of the Hebrew words.

I'm a non hebrew atheist ex catholic who was raised on the king james bible who is talking about the negative influence christianity/catholisism has had on western culture.. I even used quotes from the KJ bible to back up my points as that is the book which is relevent to the religion I'm talking about..

The KJV is a horrible translation. I'm actually surprised when I see people still use it. My grandmother won't give hers up no matter what I try to tell her. And Christianity has a very horrible and bloody past but it's not like that now. I have seen many growths in the Christians that I know. The only people I don't see changing and that are stuck in the 100% literal ways are the fundamentalists in my family. They're Southern Baptist but I don't hold it against them.

how is the torah relevent to a coversation about what sexism the bible has promoted?

The Torah is very relevant considering you keep using Adam and Eve.

In future could you please actually read my posts properly?

I read your post properly. I commented that you lack knowledge of the Hebrew. That shows by the way you're interpreting the scriptures in the Torah/Tanakh. Maybe I should ask that you interpret them properly in the future. That wouldn't happen though because I can see that your view is tainted by your non-Hebrew atheist ex-Catholic ways.

Right because Adam first deceived the woman. Did you forget that part?

Correction. That came from Riley on Post Number: 1411014!!!!

Can you show me this part? What passage in the Bible says this?

Gen. 2.16-17 "And the Lord G-d commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you are free to eat; but as for the tree of knowledge of good and bad, you must not eat of it; for as soon as you eat of it, you shall die."

Gen. 3.2-3 "The woman replied to the serpent, 'We may eat of the fruit of the other grees of the garden. It is only about fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden that G-d said: 'You shall not eat of it or touch it, lest you die.'"

G-d told Adam, not Eve. He also did not tell Adam that he could not touch it.

I really cant tell if your joking or if your trying to support some kind of..

Dunno.

So what gives?

There is power in Christianity. I have not seen or heard of any other religion that directs prophecy as there proof.

Perhaps you haven't read the Tanakh (OT).

What happend the first time HE did this. We the people crucfied HIM becuse we didn't want to bow down to another !

Wrong.

The same thing would happen today.

I haven't heard of many crucifixions lately. Am I missing something?

All of the other Gods were and still are False Prophets. We are still waiting for one prophecy to be fulfilled that isn't ( SELF FULFILLED PROPHECY ) EXAMPLE: Muhhomud, Joseph Smith, Budda, etc...........

A. Buddha is not a G-d.
B. Muhammad said that Jesus would return. Is that false?

Back to the Ten Commandments being on display- Yes the non beleivers fear our GOD !

Maybe the "believers" fear other religions. Why can't other religions post their "commandments" as well?

Why don't they abolish other religions.

Because they can't and why should they? Who is anyone to tell someone what religion is right for them?

Why is there such an attack upon Christianity ?

The Ten Commandments are in the Torah...Jewish. The NT only brought forward nine Commandments so what is the big deal?

Becuse it's the Truth and the ONLY way to GOD. There is NO POWER in other religions.

See IMO, the only wrong religion is the one who thinks theirs is right for everyone. Religion should be something personal and about establishing a relationship with G-d. Not something that is one size fits all.

I have studied. Not only was I raised in a devout Southern Baptist home where we had to read the Bible cover to cover over and over again, but I also went to a Methodist college and seminary.

You have to realize that back in the day...the 'other' religion in the world was dominated by the sex goddess. The church services were orgies and sex was nuthin but a thing. Much like today. That rule could have been made up for just that reason.

I'm assuming you are talking about Paganism. So I'm not sure what the correlation is with Iyzebel, Pagans and NT.

What ever the reason... I cannot agree on you about 'bitter' NT writers. God breathed it. So that is the source of all.

The reference in the NT to all scripture being inspired by G-d is often associated with the entire Christian Bible. However, there was no Christian Bible in circulation. However, the Torah was definitely in circulation and is said to be directly from G-d and then the prophets and writings were also available making up the entire Tanakh. I agree. Those are the source of all.

Verse 14 "Her value......Her yield.
Verse 15 "She is....equal her"
Verse 16 "In her right....In her left"
Verse 17 "Her ways...all her"
Verse 18 "She is....grasp her....holds on to her."

My point was about wisdom being personified as a female hence my comment about adding another scripture to show the feminine wisdom. The entire chapter three is about the wisdom of piety and was going along with comments made earlier about wisdom and being feminine.

I really cant tell if your joking or if your trying to support some kind of..

Still yet how does this say Adam lied to Eve about the tree? I don't see the connection. Doent Eves own words tend to show that Adam told her? Where in this was she decieved by Adam?

Yes her words do show that Adam told her. But like I said in the previous post, G-d did NOT tell Adam that he couldn't touch the tree. He said not to eat from it. Eve's words were not to touch or eat from it.

Gen. 2.16-17 "And the Lord G-d commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you are free to eat; but as for the tree of knowledge of good and bad, you must not eat of it; for as soon as you eat of it, you shall die."

Ok. That explains it there.
Thank you.

As for Eve being decieved by satan. That is correct.
Theory has it that this was the exact action of satans fall as well. In getting Eve and Adam to follow his words, he gained the worship he wanted from those two new creatures ...the humans...that were made to worship God.
The rebellion was full.

If you read the bible you will find that satan often uses women to bring down men.

Remember Balaam and his donkey? He couldnt curse Israel, so they sent some hotty women to lead the men astray. Guys are fools for women the Israelites even worshiped the idols of those women.

(the confirming referrence in the NT for you christians is 2Pet 2:15 , Jude 1:1, and Rev 2:14)

Other examples are Solomon who worshiped the idols of his foriegn wives, Sampson who was taken down by delilah, Jezebel and ahab, eve and adam, and the whole book of Jeremiah

Mans weakness is woman. Womans weakness is lies.

I suppose the question is " Why does it bother anyone to post the Ten Commandments, when they are merely guidelines that a certain group of people believe to be important rules to follow. However, looking at the topic in that aspect, it isnt as simple or as easy as it sounds.
The United States has become a country of many cultures, races, ethnic groups all rolled into one gigantic soup of diversity. It is no longer the country of white, male, low-to-middle income class. [I mean no offense by this]. I merely try to put into perpective the fact that there is no "average American" now. We are a mix of so many different immigrated bloodlines, from so many different parts of the world, that there is no way we can possibly have 1 single set of rules or norms for everyone. If we allow one group to advertise [for lack of a better word] their beliefs, then we must allow all who reside in our borders, and are citizens to do the same. Somehow I find that thought somewhat disturbing. What if the KKK wanted to promote and advertise their beliefs on Main Street corner, in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. That would cause immedite conflict with the beliefs of the Afican American majority that reside there. Just because we are entitles to Free Speech, does not neccessarily mean we "should".
If we allow one religious sect to post their beliefs in such a manner, we will offend many other religious sects.
It is my opinion that an individuals religious beliefs are a private matter, not to be advertised on the corner. In fact, if I am not mistaken, is there not a quote/scripture in the Bible that states you should not do the exact thing.
If a person wishes to learn of a certain religions rules or laws, then they are encouraged to visit the establishment where the laws are taught. To be confronted by these rules in an establishment that is paid for by all citizens, then said establishment needs to remain as neutral as possible.

Good post, I agree. A person should be allowed to practice religion in their own homes, or places of worhsip like churches. Why would any religion feel the need to display their "guidelines" publicly? I believe that might be seen as trying to force your beliefes on someone.

I haven't read this entire thread, or even the entire first page. However, I would like to chime in on one thing regarding christianity. The true power of the message will NEVER be felt by the entire world if we continue to bicker between each other about who practices the right tenets. A Christian is a Christian is a Christian; now lets go save the world, and ourselves. Otherwise, we are just gonna watch the world meet its demise!
