I am NOT for socialism but I am NOT against social programs. They are different things. We should be able to provide some social programs without going full socialist.

100% agreed. One does not compel the other.

And, the amount of money that celebs and athletes get for their "jobs" has always struck me as just plain stupid. and makes me wonder about the collective intelligence of the world that we give them ridiculous amounts of money.

You answered your own question. A football player who has a million fans and makes a million dollars a year is only costing their fans $1 a piece. A pittance. A movie star that 10 million people wants to see can make $10 million on a movie and only raise the ticket price by $1.

It's called "economics of scale."

TheRedneck

yeah, but they make far more than 1 million and we all pay for them even if we don't buy tickets to their stupid movies.

And why should private citizens be giving their hard earned money away to anyone?
Its not up to Hollywood to save the nation.

Yep, him too. From what I know, he already donates his salary.

What's that work out to per person?

But he also aint always espousing that socialist crapola.

He sure as hell is with this plan. Where do you think the money comes from?

Up to $2,000 per adult.

mobile.twitter.com...

Better, that is something we can all work with!

Since I'm losing about $70 a day in revenue from my Lyft transportation business, the 2,000 would definitely help fill the void.

Particularly if it's tax-free Revenue. Got to keep Biden and Sanders away from the White House in order to make that happen.

Dammit, man! You definitely put to rest the notion that rednecks are generally stupid! That was the most succinct economics lesson I've ever encountered!

I was more concerned about Nancy Pelosi telling the US House to stay in recess beyond the end of this month. Usually it is the US House that controls the purse strings.

This is stimulus and we all paid into the system. If you did not pay into it, you can be a prince and refuse your check.

these are extraordinary times. This is in no way socialism and you know it.

I'll take your check, you can sign it over to me. pm for details

and you can be sure I will use it to help those around me to have food and keep a roof over their heads at this time.

Yous dont have to get your cars inspected??

Nope, not unless we want to pay a mechanic for it.

There is a law against "spraying for 'skeeters" (puffing out a visible cloud of smoke from the exhaust that causes birds to drop dead in mid-flight), but it's not enforced much. Oil got too expensive to burn like that.

TheRedneck

Alaska also has no state inspection for autos as I recall.

Yeah I love all these folks saying this is a waste and they don't need the money. You know damn well better than 90% of the people saying that will keep it. Very few will do the right thing and donate it when it comes.

ETA: Not only will they keep the money, they'll blow it on something asinine.

Explain what extra you 'paid into the system'? Was there some fund besides SSI or your IRA that you were paying into that nets you cash?

This is in no way socialism and you know it.

It is 100% socialism and the President was clear on that point, the 'free' money wouldn't go to people who were over a certain earning threshold.

Funny how people love them some socialism when it benefits them and not others.

I've paid my taxes since I was 15.

And there is no "free" money, the money comes from the taxes working people pay.

And yah, he is right to not give wealthy people money, this is for people who will be HURTING due to no fault of their own.

What about those of us that rely on rental income to survive?

That would be more along the lines of a stimulus package to support you in that loss rent.
