Would it not just be easier to arrest all the elderly

The thread's been a comedy gas so far, but it does highlight entitlement issues. The old lambast the young for being out & about -- "Why won't you think of me, you disease factory?!" Stay home! Everyone should stay home!"
That's a bit selfish to expect the majority to cater to the minority there.
On the other side of the coin, you have to consider the retort -- "Just stay home if you're so a-skeered, old folks. Virus avoided, voila." "NO! Don't tell me what to do!"

You're kind of screwing yourselves with that mindset. It's much simpler & easier logistically, and economy-wise, CHEAPER to ask you to hole up instead of shutting down the entire country just for you & the medically fragile. Two different groups there, one isn't exclusively elderly. But both are vulnerable.

In this case, yes, Boomers and to a lesser extent, the youngest Silents, you damn well might be the catalysts for the downfall you bitch about others being. The economy is not handling this very well already and layoffs have begun, this isn't going to get better unless we dial the isolation aspect WAY back SOON to only whom needs it, and restart businesses & general daily life. Because in a capitalist economy, trying to operate like this is an easy death knell. Thanks for rejecting the easier option so fast. Enjoy adapting to your bemoeaned socialism, because making everything go broke is how you get there -- the broad brush money handouts on your dime are already officially looming.

Just an observation creating a thread telling the old folks that you want to lock them up didn't work out very well.

Perhaps next time try "Hey, old people, y'all up for some ice cream? Get in the bus!"

I'm still working on a plan for the lactose intolerant old folks...

"Arrest" is certainly the wrong word, but how is this fundamentally different than China, Italy, France, Spain, etc all "locking down" their countries in toto? And quarantining the vulnerable is both far less disruptive and far more effective than whatever it is we're trying to do now.

Maybe not arrest put put in isolation/secure unit all the elderly
You see almost all the deaths are elderly who are less immune to this

Would it not be the best bet to just isolate them, and then we have far less to worry about as most younger people can cope with the virus

Let's round them all up and put them all on the cruises, win/win. Everyone has to be screened first.

All joking aside, do you even know any boomers? They are the most stubborn hardheaded people in the world.
We would literally have to drag them out kicking and screaming. Many of them are not afraid to die either.
Has anyone wondered if it is the boomers that are spreading the Covid and not the youngins?

Oh for....
Jump off the panic wagon before you give yourself a heart attack or something.
My god, we spent half our lives trying to push them out the door... go out and play with your friends, get up and go to school, have you applied for any jobs this week???
Now they have the perfect excuse to stay holed up in the basement staring at their cell phones and taking selfies and its...
You never let me go anywhere!!
By all means!! Disconnect yourself from the computer, take a walk down a forest trail, heck, the gas is cheap, get lost on a country road somewhere.. but dang you all get the heck out of the house awhile!! And, can you swing by a store on the way home, someone ate the last of the food!!

What "panic"? The bottom line is encouraging the medically vulnerable and the elderly to self-isolate would be a much better bet than trying to force everyone to, country-wide. A certain demographic is being very "Think of myyyyy health!" while not practicing what they preach about staying home anyway. Sorry I called them out on it, but suck it up.

Not really, theres a new contagion going through the population, it has brought some countries' healthcare system to their knees and has the potential to do that here if it isnt slowed down. And, since it's so new, we really dont know much about it. We think it isnt more harmful than the flu to most people, it seems like this is so, but viruses seem to have a habit of mutating and sometimes, like HIV, they have effects that dont show up right away.
So, it's the CDC, the. Healthcare system, that is advising that people just try to help prevent the spread as much as they can...
They are encouraging the medically vulnerable to be more careful. Have been all along. Nursing homes and hospitals are monitoring visitors or just plain not allowing visitors. But well, the more the people complain not enough is being done, the more likely those in govt are to over react and force more restrictive measures on us. Such is life. Never complain to the govt. That is one thing this boomer learned a long time ago. They'll just read what they want into your words and find a justification to do what they want to do..
But, continue on with your panic attack. I expect to see more of it as those mind altering drugs become low in inventory because of panic buying..
Here's an idea.. how about those in your generation who've hoarded all the sanitizer wipes let's some of them lose at cost? Ya see, my son the plumber kind of relies alot on them. I spend most of my time in my bedroom, haven't been anywhere out of the house in quite awhile. The only way I am gonna catch anything is if one of my sons brings it in... and thanks to you younger generations crazy members, I probably have just as much chance of getting e-coli or worse as I do the carona virus.
The boomers ain't gonna cause the destruction of your world... stupidity is!!!

Cool story... but...

Not one of us old geezers have "lambast[ed] the young for being out and about." We've been too busy mocking them and planning our means of rehydration for self-isolation... It was quite fun too!

The very premise of the OP is that it would be "easier" to just arrest all the elderly people... because somehow the OP thinks the most vulnerable are a threat to the least vulnerable. I did ask for an explanation, but seems the cat's got the OP's tongue, or the OP has simply abandoned their thread... I also pointed out the flaws in that logic, and that according to that logic it should be the young locked up to protect the old.

Most people who know they are vulnerable and wanting to protect their health are already self-isolating, and are happy to let others do as they see fit for themselves. That's as it should be.

We're also quite happy for silly threads like this that we can mock and poke fun at. We gotta do something while we're self-isolating!!!

On a more serious note, and more practical, I have seen some suggestions that specific business hours be established for the vulnerable -- elderly, chronically ill, etc. -- to do their shopping and essential errands, protecting them from the masses, and affording greater mobility to those not vulnerable. I think this kind of arrangement is something worth thinking about. With a few tweaks, it could be applied to several situations and circumstances. It gives the vulnerable a somewhat "safe" window to do what they've gotta do, but minimally restricts the mobility and activities of those not at risk.

Of course not. Because first the elders, next the sick, next the homeless, next who? I can’t believe what are you saying, I read somewhere that fear takes the best and the worst from people. Shame.

OP's premise is disgusting.

It's infuriating too when people caveat discussion or statistics about CV-19 with comments like, "It's really only killing old people and sick people with other conditions."

So what, round up all the "Vulnerables"?

Maybe it is the reincarnation of Prince Phillip.

Forgive me. Wrong choice of words.

Maybe a preincarnation or just a fulfillment of a dream.
