Hell, even the Chinese are saying their kids aren't being nearly as affected as adults, older adults, are. Yes, the mortality rate is higher than normal flu, right now, but you also have to look at the areas affected and how they're treating people,

Sounds like a sci-fi movie. Government can't wait for the old folk to die off. Speed it up a bit, and take control of the clueless and the entitled and dependent young.

Wonder how it would end.

Not buying it. We're being played. Fear is a wonderful tool. especially when the people are so quick to fall into it.

The Government ARE the "old folk.."

I don’t care about the mortality rate but 2 out of the 5 cases in my state died. The point I am making is THIS is an addition to the flu a new threat in addition to the flu. Oh and it’s spreading pretty fast. I guess you can call this facts. Governments refuse to call this what it is, a pandemic and perfer to generalize it to an existing virus as appose to actually informing us it is a threat to our health. Oh and a threat to our health does not mean death, it means it’s a threat.

Perhaps we are being played. And you might be right. But the virus is real, even if used to instill fear.

I'm not worried, or scared, just looking at the numbers so far.

ETA:

I suppose the precautions being taken and advised (self-quarantines of the infected, closures, etc, of those exposed) are equally a fear mongering conspiracy?

Or, looking at it another way, perhaps that's how we *should* handle any new viral outbreak? Many of us have been saying that for years now. When some pestilence manifests itself in a third world #hole, as pestilences do, like China, Mexico, or India, that's a good reason to seal your nation off from the disease infested until such time as they are no longer disease infested or the virus is understood enough to be neutralized in your own population. I'd argue that the steps taken to date, travel restrictions, closures, etc are measures we should be taking routinely... the failure on the United States' part was in breaking quarantine and making exceptions. We should have had our borders airtight and international travel *should* have mandatory isolation.quarantine (including Americans returning to the US from countries of ill health repute) as standard operating procedure and at all times, not just after the cat is out of the bag.

Look, I'm not suggesting this virus is a nothing... I'm saying this virus is an opportunity to wake the hell up and focus on never finding ourselves in this position again.

I hate to tell you this but to successfully do what you propose there's going to have to be an element of the dreaded socialism involved.

It has a 3.5% death rate IN CASES KNOWN

Cases known, which I've said several times, on several threads.

CDC estimates there have been 34 million flu illnesses in the USA this season. Yet read down a ways... CDC verifies there have been 207,466 confirmed positive specimens for the flu

Look at the CDC chart. I did, and I did the math. I only did a few years (2010 & 2011), but symptomatic illnesses compared to deaths is around 0.1% (for those years).

WHO also says, of cases known (again) or Corvid, mortality is 3.5%.

Are there cases unknown? Absolutely. Probably many.

Could there have been deaths from but not attributed to? Sure, because it's still new and could be attributed to typical flu.

ETA:

I'm not worried, but I don't think it should be summarily dismissed as "nothing serious" as so many are wont to do. Don't underestimate viruses, ever, especially known ones.

Currently the CFR /mortality is 4.6% in Italy Iran is around the same or slightly higher 4.8% I think

Also in Italy, they are getting closer to having to ration icu’s. 1 in 10 cases in Italy, need a icu. I am not saying to panic, but the reality is this. I just have a sad feeling people are not going to respect this pandemic, until a friend, or relative or famous person dies....

Italy's prime minister has said at least 16 million people are in mandatory quarantine in Lombardy region and also in 14 provinces

BBC
It's reasonable to assume were going to see many more countries adopt a similar strategy.

The virus mutated in Wuhan

There is the S strain and the L strain one is more transmissible and more virulent than the other, thankfully it looks like the more virulent strain was quarantined in Wuhan, mostly, unfortunately there is still the S&L strain on the lose

Novel CoronaVirus is completely new to the human body, so it’s possible to be infected and then reinfected by the S&L strain because the proteins have mutated therefore unrecognisable - No immunity

I just watched a video of people rushing out of the train stations trying to get out of the quarantine, lost the video will try and find

But yeah... It’s 100% happening, and around the world

Yes well, on any other subject I’m with you

But in this case, it’s all there in front of you to see, and for some reason you’re refusing to make any sense of it?

It’s not a good look when the world is in uncharted territory and you still believe it’s just a ploy

Perhaps it is engineered, perhaps it is an attack

Recalls activating

I just got a reserve call up due to my experience in nuclear biological and chemical warfare. I thought I was done but I took an oath and it has not expired. I report for duty next week. I also work in the Drug industry so I am sure that was a factor. My commision was activated.

I don't think people are fully understanding the gravity of the situation. No, it's not Ebola deadly, but there is only one thing that will slow the spread down enough for health care facilities to be able to try and keep up now that it's got to this stage - starve the virus of hosts. If your thinking that they won't lock-down or quarantine in the US then your not looking at the larger picture as well as being dishonest with yourself. They'll try to salvage the economy at all costs, so the red flag to watch for is Wall Street shutting down.
