I agree they are playing it down.

Especially because if you continued to watch the news at ten. After the segments on corona virus then politics, they then covered just how bad the nhs is having it this winter.

The bbc reported that there’s isn’t enough beds, trolleys in corridors with patients on. And a short supply of staff. Ambulances waiting outside with more patients.......

So Yh definitely sounds like the UK’s prepared if this hits hard 🤦‍♂️

Why so picky? The german minister of health said today publicly that "Germany is at the beginnig of an epidemy". In this regard, BBC is just reporting the factual news - as they are supposed to do.
In the past 3 days, there were 10 new confirmed cases in Germany.

Sorry carport. Appreciate your response and added you to the reply above, but because you said the BBC reports factual news, I just couldn't bring myself to give you a star

Sorry if already posted but this looks highly suspicious.
$425M in World Bank catastrophe bonds set to default if coronavirus declared a pandemic by June.

In 2017, the World Bank designed a new way to raise money: Pandemic Emergency Financing bonds. Over $425 million worth of such bonds, which bet against a global outbreak of infectious diseases and will default if WHO declares the coronavirus a pandemic, were sold by the World Bank in its first-ever issuance of catastrophe bonds. In the event of no pandemic, investors would be paid a healthy annualized return. Meanwhile, the World Bank could use the bonds to insure itself against the risk of a global outbreak.

$425 Million is chicken scratch to the World Bank. I personally don't believe that meet a threshold they'd be willing to play games over, but I could be wrong.

Think you drop a few 000
Billion not million

Here's The 425 Billion Reason Why WHO Refuses To Call The Covid-19 Outbreak A "Pandemic"

There are two tranches of Pandemic Emergency Financing Facility (PEF) bonds outstanding, expected to mature in July, and this means investors of the bonds will collect massive profits if the bonds aren't triggered or will lose everything if the Covid-19 outbreak continues to escalate.

It's an interesting game they are playing. Drip feed the public, letting them know how bad it is, or could be. What we have been announcing here for weeks. But at the same time playing this delicate balancing act to look after the markets as long as possible and appear more "strong and stable" (lol) than other countries.

Hey folks. I don't know about American TV but I get the impression that the big news is who is winning the lottery.
Just on TV here. The grocery stores in Italy are all empty. You folks better get away from the computer and head for the store. I'm afraid most Americans are in for a very rude shock in about 3 hours. They are now saying on TV we should have supplies for 1 year. Yes, you heard it from MIM one freak'n year now. Time to act now folks.

You cannot suddenly supply the entire world to one year for every single person. That sounds like they are trying to provoke a panic and run on supplies.

Oh God. Gimme a break. 1 year?! Yeah that’ll go over well with the people of the world. Can we just have the guys with the nuke keys just high five each other and on the count of 3 already? This slow burn of info reminds me of something, “cough, cough”

“Time to act now folks, don’t delay, while supplies last...”

I have some family members that have laughed at me for being prepared. I don't get it either. The CDC is now saying publicly to get prepared, but it just goes right over their heads. I have enough stuff for my family of 5 for about 6 months. I may have to take in my mother as well, so that will cut into it some. She is one of those that just say, "well let's just wait and see."

I would rather be prepared than starve.

It has been my experience that the "laughers" are generally people who believe that they are WAY smarter than they really are.

I think it’s the same reason why most countries aren’t talking it up. Their trying to avoid their economies being closed down and panic to set in amongst the population. I think the hope is that over the past few weeks that more and more people have woken up to this and will have made some preparations, ie buying food.

That way when they have to get to the point of announcing a pandemic and quarantine of selected areas. It may help with the rush to the shops.

I my self have stocked on some food and other supplies to last a few weeks. And my family members have as well (they usually ignore things like this)

Also your correct there trying to keep the markets up for as long as possible to prevent a massive economic crash. Perhaps they hope that only parts of the world need quarantining at the same time, that way parts of the global economy are always working.

No, the way its presented here is with pictures. They are not saying drop everything and run for your life. NO,hype, just explanation of world events and currents happening. Then follow up with maybe people are thinking of prepping for at least one year. I guess you'd have to see the videos on TV of empty streets in Italy and empty store shelves to get the truth picture of its "silent meaning". I'm probably translating what they say the way Americans would say it. But really, I don't think its time to sit behind the computer and watch what may happen at your door step in about 3 hours from now in America. or in that fact, around the world. sorry if I'm scaring people here. But we here are talking of quarantine now. This means food will be delivered to out post and then distributed by govt. officials. any way it really doesn't matter what MIM says, its all hyped up for me to get stars on my post. NOT REALLY, I'M VERY SERIOUS HERE

Same here.

I am astounded at how many people do not think like this. I guess that is what the government aims for. Be dependent on the system.

It doesn't really work out for some.

Many people cannot begin to grasp the concept that they might walk into their grocery store, and each and every shelf will be bare. Just like some people have no concept of where their ground beef comes from.

I don't think we'll be under quarantine for one year. I think it's more a matter of a couple of months to three months at most.

That doesn't mean people won't all wake up at the same time and do massive FRENCH TOAST ALERT making last minute shopping a major pain in the tail. It always happens, so if you haven't been doing a little along, you're going to be in trouble or have trouble getting all that you need.

After that, things will be spotty because of supply chain issues, but a lot of stuff in the states foodwise can be produced in this country.

I bet tonight's speech will be BS... stocks/economy may be Trump's achilles heal. If he downplays the seriousness of this outbreak tonight to try to help markets then he will likely fall on his sword when the truth comes out and it truly does affect our domestic economy in a bigger way

Not trying to make this political, just looking at Trump's history and in times like this we need leaders who are not afraid to tell it like it is to help raise awareness. In many other ways Trump might "tell it like it is" but not if stocks are part of the discussion IMO

Not to sound like a broken record, but CNN (lol) is saying the press conference tonight is for them to announce their plans of action. CDC lady was added hours after.

I think Trump realizes he'll lose the election if this isn't handled correctly, we will see.

American voters have very short memory spans. This is too far from the election to have much of an impact on the election results. Once this starts dying down voters will forget because it is not import any more to them. Now if the country experiences civil disobedience, recession, etc that will impact the election but any connection to the virus will be forgotten. They will be different issues for the American voters.

If its anything like what happened in china we are entering a different paradigm.

Corona could be literally like 9/11

Remember there was pre 9/11 and post 9/11

This is what has occurred in China as we speak.

We could be facing the same thing.

I agree with you but how do we turn the post virus era into something positive? Does our disease surveillance system need improved and number diseases expanded? Does our medical education need improved? What capacity do we need as a country to produce certain critical drugs in this country? What capacity does this country need to have to handle the next epidemic and how to pay for it as it sits idle? The focus should be on the next epidemic as much as it is for the current. If we only look at the current we will repeat it all over again when the next epidemic hits in 5 years or whenever.

Very intelligent and critical points....lets hope Mr. Trump addresses some of your points tonight.

I've been down this road before and yet to be in the majority. It all comes down to politics and the quick fix. I say this as having been in government for 40 years before retiring.

And frankly, if we have to stock for one year, then there's simply no way we can do that. Maybe in a couple of months we could, but not right now. Our savings are tapped after surgery and having to completely replace our HVAC.

Thanks for the update, just had tacos with beer and thinking about what you are writing. We have it so good now makes me enjoy and be grateful for everything we currently have...

cheers to all we are going to get through these difficult times. I am more inclined to buy more rabbit snares and fishing rods than stock for 1 year. I feel like if it's this long we will not be able to protect a hoard of food.

Because that is the kind of hard-hitting stuff I would expect from the CDC.

Absolutely with you there. Single mum here, working full time, but no spare cash to stock up for a year! I have a half full freezer, and supply of cans, which will get topped up on Friday when I get my monthly wages, but even then, if will be enough for 2 months, 3 at a stretch.

Unless I find myself a rich husband pronto, a year is not feasable.
