The word "debacle" is heard frequently in these troubled times... oh who am I kidding? The word "debacle" isn't often used anymore, but by god they managed to once again take a simple voting process and turn that sumbitch into a total debacle. Look at what they did to the democratic process... again.

The Iowa caucus debacle is currently playing out. CNN and MSNBC have turned against their Democratic puppet masters. It is fun to watch clips of the anti-Trump propaganda networks cope without their daily soap opera scripts. These peddlers of fake news are locked in a tailspin. Add in the laughable attempt at impeaching Trump and the relevance of left-wing cable news outlets is slipping away.

Honestly, partisan issues aside, everyone who values democracy should turn against this tomfoolery. It's difficult to take a party's incessant whining about phantom voter suppression and imaginary rejection of "voter intent" seriously when that same party fumbles process after process and routinely takes a dump on their own voter bases' heads all while insisting they know what's best and predictably falling back on some variant of "it's our party, we can run it how we see fit... please vote for us in November."

None of these people draw like potus.
None of them.

Trump's Iowa rally had more attendees than the caucuses had voters?

The venue for Trump's Iowa rally, the Knapp centre, has a maximum seating of 7,152.

The venue for the caucuses is the Iowa State Fairgrounds which averaged 106,397 people a day during the State Fair in 2019.

I can't get any reliable actual figures, but from video, I'd guess that caucus attendance was OK.

It's not a venue for the caucuses. It's a state fair for agriculture and food. The candidates just show up, over 20 of them last time. If the candidates don't show up 100K people would still be in attendance. The candidates use as a cheap way reach people since they are herding there anyway.

I am not a fan of Trump. But my previous impression of the Democrats/the suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome is reinforced. The creeping forces of the not so new Soviet-type left-wing politics are arising around the globe. Just look at the suppression of freedom of speech at New Zealand universities.

I am returning to the focus of the topic. The electoral system employed in the Iowa Caucus is overly complicated for the task. As someone familiar with Mixed Member Proportional, the voting system used in New Zealand, any unique electoral systems stand out. The problem, if you like, MMP is designed to prevent one parliamentary party from holding power. Applying this same principle to selecting candidates via caucuses and primaries is problematic.

I haven't raised any new issues. Twelve years ago, these topics floated around the boards. There is no need to delve into old threads and issues. But it is worth noting the way existing problems expanded like tumours.

Why don't they have a simple primary vote, like most of the other states?

An excellent question. I don't know the precise answer to your question. Beyond the adaption of primaries and caucuses in 1972, the specific reasons for Iowa the current system are more obscure. Overall, the adaption of the current state by state voting system stems from the tumultuous 1968 Democratic convention.

In recent decades, my inclination is Iowa has retained the caucus voting system out of pride in their state. Iowans love how their location kicks off the formal parts of the presidential campaign season. So there is no merit in their satisfaction based argument. A primary is more democratic and is more likely to attract a higher number of voters. Nor do they have to dump proportional representation. A preferential based voting system suits primaries nicely.

www.thegatewaypundit.com... -names-on-voter-rolls/

When are these corrupt idiots going to learn we are on to their game ?

Eight Iowa Counties Have Total Registration Rates Larger Than Eligible Voter Population… UPDATE: IA Secretary of State Refutes Report

Judicial Watch announced that eight Iowa counties have more voter registrations than their eligible voting-age population. According to Judicial Watch’s analysis of data released by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) in 2019 and the most recent U.S. Census Bureau’s five-year American Community Survey, eight Iowa counties are on the list of 378 counties nationwide that have more voter registrations than citizens living there who are old enough to vote, i.e., counties where registration rates exceed 100%. These 378 counties combined had about 2.5 million registrations over the 100%-registered mark. In Iowa, there are at least 18,658 “extra names” on the voting rolls in the eight counties at issue.

Nothing to see hear just another democratic controlled election

Tradition mostly. Not many states still do it. Just an old relic that needs to die and probably will soon. I can't find one good reason other than candidates like to go eat corn dogs and fried candy bars or some other disgusting food at their fair for a week or so. This courtship is a way of making the candidates seem like just good old normal folk who also eat garbage when they absolutely do not. Same with the caucuses when they visit them.

Could you image AOC at the Iowa state fair. She would be yelling at the 4H club, yelling at gas guzzling food trucks and slashing tires of John Deer equipment.

It's also worth noting that it was a complaint from Buttigieg that stopped the Des Moines Register from publishing their final poll.

Definitely starting to look like that the DNC is trying to screw over Bernie again, guaranteeing that Trump wins in November.

I find it interesting that instead of favoring Biden which may have been too obvious they pivoted to Pete.

Warren and Klobuchar should speak out if there was cheating.

Only problem is Warren lies so much no one will believe her.

This is the funniest thing I've ever seen. Four years of the Dems whining about corruption and election integrity and these morons can't even run an election in one small state. Idiots.

It’s so obvious that both sides are looking to digitally rig elections.

All elections need to be required to use paper ballots. Tabulated manually.

This right here here is being done because Bernie was going to win. The shot callers are running through which scenario is most believable to rubes that voted for him when they screw him.

It’s funny now but the plan is to do this in all elections while we make fun of Russian elections.

In the Democrat's defense, it's much harder to count when you have to reach a specific result.

I honestly for the life of me cannot fathom how anyone could look at the recent statements made and actions taken and still be in support of the DNC. In 2016, Hillary literally stole the nomination from Bernie (who apparently traded in his integrity over that for a nice, shiny mansion). We just got through hearing Adam Schiff tell us that the American voters can't be trusted to vote correctly. And now we are supposed to believe that the DNC is conducting a "free and fair" election when they are hiding results they don't like?

And there will be some who believe that the DNC is still on their side.

It's like the police catching a bank robber hiding inside a bank vault, with bags full of cash from the vault, after having him on tape confessing to robbing a bank before, on tape stating that banks shouldn't have so much money, suspected in 20 previous bank robberies, and somehow still thinking that the poor guy was just trying to make sure no one miscounted the money.

I went to bed early last night thinking this was the biggest pile of BS I had seen to date (which, after the last three years, is saying something) and I woke up to the announcement that 8 hours later the DNC still hasn't been able to count the votes in one small state. Right. I believe that, sure. Now tell me again how you once killed a sperm whale in Kansas with a slingshot and jellybeans...

We have conducted elections for over 200 years, using pencil and paper. Now we have electronic 'apps' that are designed to help us tabulate the count but which usually end up confusing everyone. Here lately, every time someone, usually a Democrat, decides to 'fix' an election procedure, it winds up breaking the election. We need a Federal law that states that no electrical devices can be used in any way to assist in tabulating results... including calculators! Unfix the fixes so the election works again.

No, it's likely that both sides would like to rig the elections. It's obvious that the DNC is actively trying to do so.

The RNC had their Iowa caucuses last night as well. No problems; results reported.

The fact that there is no valid reasoning this morning is concerning. The turnout was also very low. On the surface it looks like the DNC is sitting on the results deciding on what to do. All I can say is hold on to your hat. Gonna be a bumpy election cycle. Haven't even hit the superdelegates yet.
