This is a rather derogatory and negative way of looking at the left. So given than I am a liberal Democrat and much further to the left the many of the Trump cultists posting on ATS everyday here is my way of characterization left versus right. I tried to do this a little more fairly but it is impossible for me not to be a little derogatory of the right.

The right believes in anarchy, laissez faire capitalism, exploitation of workers, gouging consumers, freedom from consumer protections laws, and paying politicians to pass laws preventing competition in order to have monopolies and cartels.

The left believes government has a role in regulating businesses and ensuring free-markets, protecting consumers, protecting workers rights with public policies, and tempering the excesses and inequalities created by laissez faire capitalism.

It's kind of mind boggling to me the way the right thinks. It's always all or nothing. I see government has a role in curbing the abuses of power by having so much wealth concentrated into so few hands. However, if you say anything at all, even the most mildest regulation, the response is like a nuclear bomb of absolutes like calling someone a "communist". If you propose one small law at all for regulating business you are supposedly eliminating private ownership of companies in some people's eyes. It's either absolute freedom or communism. There is no in between.

I think government has a role in promoting the commonwealth and general welfare. I think the words of FDR best characterize what in means to be liberal Democrat.

I don't think Republicans and people on the right get to define what it means to be on the left. I think what it means to be on the left is mostly the responsibility of people who ARE on the left.

I do not have much hope things are going to change with people on the right. People are the right are not going to evolve into having the ability to make compromises.

Until the dollar collapses to nothing in value the majority of people really do not care much about politics. And if they did I'm not sure the way the system is rigged anyone could really do anything about it. The real owners of this country are never going to allow any real change from our scarcity economy no matter how much gains come in productivity from automation. Scarcity and controlling access is the source of the billionaires power.



The left consist of antifa, LGBTQ, BLM, hollyweird, muslims, illegal aliens, the fake media.

Normal people running to the right and fast.

Because of the left and their radical ideas, more and more people are going to Republican.

The left are mostly guided by passion and are beelding heart liberals.

The right are still using common sense and have the balls to make decisions that will help Americans first.

The left care more about illegal aliens than they do citizens.



So this is a funny one to me. The left is often criticized for being godless, and yet they are the ones ruled by emotion and feelings. Not rational, like the right. A large percentage of which are the Christian Right, who logically believe in a telepathic Jewish zombie who watches our every move and condemns to hellfire anyone who doesn’t follow his dictates. No contradiction there.

And there’s the fact that historically, as now, there are far more Americans who identify as democrats, and yet for some reason our very fair electoral system has the minority party in power in the executive, legislative and judicial branches more often than not. Strange that.

And like most Americans, dem and repub alike, you look at the fringe groups and assume all the people from the group opposing yours are like those fringers. Stop watching too much tv and fb. The vast majority of people are relatively normal and rational and still manage to vote for people you don’t like and to support issues you disagree with. Still mostly normal people.

I say that none of us has the monopoly on rational thought, so to blanket paint all of your opponents as irrational is an easy, self serving delusion. We are all balls of contradictions, so end this hyperbole and rhetoric that “dems are irrational, greedy, lazy snowflakes” and abandon the spoon fed narratives, and try engaging in honest debate, ketsuko. They took over the voting station for a good 5 hours plus.

You really think BLM, LGBTQ, antifa and hollyweird vote Republican?

And to add tthat group of winners. They want to give the rights to felons to vote.

Funny, most of what I think and believe and feel I formed before I ever found Limbaugh's show. I was actually curious about him thanks to folks like yourself telling me he was the High Priest of Hateful Evil in the US, so I wanted to know.

it's interesting that you think a person cannot honestly arrive at those positions on their own. I've examined leftist thought and I continue to. The problem is that very little comes out of posters like yourself that I haven't seen many times before. You aren't arguing a fresh, new perspective but the same ones I already worked my way through when I was back in college forming who I was and what I believed.

A lot of those premises I examined and more or less rejected then because they made *zero* sense to me. They still don't, and you aren't going to change my mind by feeding me the same stuff over and over and insulting me because I think differently.

You know talking about "hate ons" and the like. Those things are getting you nowhere.

I believe there is probably a pretty even split on wealth. I could agree that it logically makes very little sense, but then you must ask how a wealthy person could benefit from left leaning political ideology. It is hard for me to believe society is driven by greed, I think most people abstain from the more frivolous, and while society is prone to decay, most people try to live within their morality... even if morality is currently backsliding.

Lol ,so naive. Most charges are very watered down, so to actually get a felony today. It's very deserving.

And the prisoners in the u.s are the most well taken care of in the world. Wide variety of food, t.v. internet, conjugal visits, dental and health care.

Hey at least your honest and feel we are all felons and great them with open arms.

The wealthy can benefit from leftist ideology by being the ones at the top enforcing the rules they make. Even in Russia and North Korea, there is that wealthy elite.

Those who make and enforce the rules get the best of everything, and it's the very wealthy who do that always.

Part of the problem with our system is that while it does allow for people to hit rock bottom and be poor and it does allow for very wealthy people, it also allows for tremendous mobility along the scale. Someone who is dirt poor doesn't have to stay that way and can actually shoot up along the scale to touch the top. Conversely, someone at the top can actually fall into the very bottom. It's usually not that dramatic, but movement between classes does happen.

In more leftist societies like the old USSR and today's China or North Korea, that movement is pretty much nothing, and that's really what the wealthy elite want. They want to be lord and masters of the world forever.
