It would be a mistake to say so before Monday, but it would probably be essential to say so as soon after Monday as possible, so that the EU know they can't assume his hands are tied.

Yup, that's what I was saying in my final paragraph before the edit. Doing that would be outrageous but would be a very strong move and come with the benefits of (imo) a big cohort of leaver voters from across the party spectrum voting for him in the inevitable GE
