Hello all in shed land.
Excuse my cocked head.
Well haven't conditions certainly changed here. Last night, True Love, asked can we shut down the house. (All windows, doors and anywhere else that
smoke can come in. Sure, no problems.
Didn't get a good sound nights sleep with the wind roaring and the wind gusts hitting every 10 minutes or so. Trees are becoming devoid of leaves as
I look to the hill behind our block. Must be pretty flash up there. Every now and then a 'Bang' when the gusts hit. House shakes. Looks out the
window to the west, don't like that red glow.
Again 'True love' got called into work this morning. People leaving from the fire front have relocated in the village about 5.5 k's east of us and
steadily travelling north to be safe. ''Lovely lady' has a job where they are setting up camp.
Me, well I got my gear (Sh1T) together. Seems my tummy has expanded these last years and trench coat and trousers are a bit tight. Helmet, woolly
socks and boots still fit though
.
As I type this the whole sky is overcast with smoke. The hills out back are disappearing in the haze. It is only midday. forecast to be sunny.
Won't happen. The south wester is blowing and the smoke growing in intensity. Dammit! Rang my Neighbor Al to check on him. (Still using walking
stick after the dog bite). All's good.
The smoke is like a pale blue fog. The wind doesn't clear it. On that point, just now it's gone quiet but to my west I can hear the wind sounding in
the hilltop trees. My fire plan is that I get the family and animals out. Set the hoses up and run the fire pumps over the house at full throttle.
I reckon I have enough water in my dam for about 45 minutes to an hour before the supply runs out or the pumps choke from lack of air. (A lot of math
figuring that out to be sure)
About to go out, pick up Al and flash up (test) the pumps and 4 wheel drives. Wind is now picking up again.
In saying all this the dogs and cats are sleeping. Might be something in that.
My kindest regards as always,
bally
