I may be wrong that this one was a terrorist attack as I just saw a news report where a guy said it was him arguing with a woman on the tram and the only reason he pulled a gun was because others tried to help the woman who may or may not have been the woman he raped before... or she could have a woman who he was trying to get to go with him but she didn't want to...

It turns out he's a rapist aswell.

I already knew he would be a lone nutter with no other motives as soon as the shooter was confirmed not to be a white person.

Dutch newsreports claim his girlfriend cheated on him, he wanted to kill her. Bystanders were trying to help her and got liquidated as a result of that.

Not entirely true high rated crimes get several lifetimes sentences in jail and for life in jail here means their whole life until you die, a great number are sent to a forensic psychiatric clinic and believe me you don't want to be there some never leave that clinic.

I'm curious how long it will take before he's out and about on weekend leave so he can try for a higher bodycount...

My guess (In all seriousness) 4 years max and a couple years probation.

I'm a bit cynical about the dutch legal system and I know people actually get life sentences..

But once in TBS, they get weekend leaves and what not.....it's a complete joke.

Tried to kill girlfriend who cheats on him.

The guy was a very religious (muslim) man, just like the rest of his family, said his neighbors. He was on an old video (2011) calling a female reporter of weblog geenstijl.nl a ‘slut’ and more. She used to be a playmate, so her looks were to much for him. It was a verbal assault.
He is suspect of robbery, burglary, rape, violence.

There are 4 suspects, but just 1 shooter.
There are claims of a manifest, where he claims he wants devision between ‘the west’ and Turkey. This is unconfirmed. In this would be a link to the NZ shooting.

Some people are claiming a false flag: there are Provincial elections coming up in 2 days, which is indirectly also for the Dutch version of the Senate. The administration is doing terrible in the polls.

depends on the crime they've committed. It's true that murder sometimes seems if six years of prison doesn't justify the crime but they do evaluate those crimes carefully and humane as possible.

I do believe many countries uphold that same system?

Would be typical, yes. Seeing his criminal record, the fact he was walking free is astonishing. Right wing parties PVV and FvD are already gaining ground, this will give them more leverage. Watch wednesday's elections.

He couldn't have been that religious, given his actions. Whether this was a 'personal cause' attack, or politically motivated(terrorism), the guy seems to be a bit of a nutter. Was he employed?

We have exactly 40 people in the Netherlands that are serving a life sentence......but you can not deprive somebody of the posibility of ever getting out so the max. you will ever get is 25 years. Makes sense....

Life sentence in The Netherlands is mostly 20-25 years in actual prison. After that comes a period of mental treatment (called TBS) in a closed and secured clinic. This had no actual end date to it. You’ll be released when the docters say you are cured...
There are many problems with this TBS treatment. Some escape, some are found the be cured enough for family visits, but they were not, so they went wrong again.
