Dems use duplicity in getting elected. Before she, Whitmer, was elected Schuette (R) warned she would increase gas by 20 cents. She denied and said he was simply lying she would not raise gas tax that much. She didn't lie, just didn't say it would actually be 45 cents!

Plus she plans on increasing tax on small businesses too. Michigan will surely suffer with the foolishness of Detroit voters. I can only hope the michigan state repub congress keeps it contained.

Illinois still has it much worse since Dems control more power in their state. So it does explain why so many folks skip state and take the short drive into southwest Michigan. It is enticing since they can visit their family in Illinois within a couple of hours. Though, you may want to fill up on gas in Indiana before you get here.

It's a shame, I thought we were almost back to an even keel from the Granholm era.

Illinois is far off the map by comparison indeed.

You can't dig your way out of a hole.

Sorry for Illinois.

Sorry for Illinois?

Why?

The people in that state have made this bed, now they can lie in it.

Decades of stupidity and the rewarding of corruption deserves NO sympathy.

To hell with Illinois.

Local,STATE issues.

Besides the gas tax, property tax, and lotteries all fund those.

But thank you for showing us the truth.

MAKE SOMEONE ELSE shell out for it.

The billionaires benefit from the commons more than anyone else. Are you suggesting we have zero taxes for people with the greatest means to pay taxes. I read the average billionaire or multi-million spends at most 22 million dollars per year.

"The youngest of Sam Walton's children, Alice Walton, 68, is reportedly worth $40.5 billion. Her elaborate $500 million art collection and donation of $225 million in Walmart shares to the Walton Family Foundation in 2016 were two major components of raising the family's overall wealth, the Sunday Times reports."

I am curious, do you support any form of taxation in order to support the commonwealth?

Without taxation supporting the commons the dollar becomes worthless. The billionaires have the greatest amount of interest in making sure they can redeem their inheritance...uh...hard work.

What kind of dumb snip wants to pay more taxes ?

It's dumbfounding.

Get the billionaires to help pay for better roads, bridges, schools, water, and healthcare?

What billionaires? Eventually, you chase them off. They can make like the pro baseball player and relocate to someplace lie Florida.

You can stop the liberal talking points. There are 540 billionaires in the entire USA. These taxes hit the middle class. Poor pay nothing in taxes and receive back on top of paying nothing.

I'm not sure I understand what you are suggesting. At which point, either income or net-worth, should someone no longer be obligated to pay taxes?

So speaks the voice of greed.

Did you ever read the story of The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs? That is what your rich folks are. Sure they have lots of money, but the more you try to grab and the faster you try to grab it, the less inclined they are to acquiesce. Strange, but they tend to be people too, and just like you, they also have a sense of what's fair and what's not.

If they see a state full of people running around paying nothing and they're being taxed at 50% or greater, what do you think they think?

What would you think in their shoes, and don't feed me some line about your civic duty. You know exactly what you'd think -- that it isn't fair.

Everyone should pay because these things you want are used by everyone.

If there is anyone that doesn't understand what is going on in Illinois,
take a gander at this zillow listing

www.zillow.com... .313354,-88.045142_rect/14_zm/

typical house in Illinois
for sale for 375K pretty average for that area
butttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt look at the property taxes

2017 $15,339(+8.1%) $126,150(+8.3%)

Folks 15K, that's yearly and rising. Yes, the property taxes are now starting to cost more
than the actual mortgage for some people. Just imagine the elderly, they are being taxed out of their
houses.
Look at where it started, 2002 8K... now just imagine, it's only going to keep going up.
For some bizarre reason a lot of people in Illinois didn't believe this.

Just to show it's not just the lower priced houses
www.zillow.com... 88.012118_rect/13_zm/

This one is a little over a million dollars,
The taxes are 35 thousand dollars a year...just the taxes folks, just the taxes..

It's not a liberal talking point. It's simple common sense. The people who benefit the most from the commons have to have some level of responsibility to its upkeep. Please explain to me why a billionaire should pay zero taxes?

I was a strong proponent of a flat tax. I heard someone of low income from a red state say a flat tax is not fair because their taxes would go up. And then I heard someone who was making high income from a blue state say a flat tax is not fair because why should he pay $100,000 per year when the median amount paid is $20,000.

Regardless of your position on tax policy, I doubt taxes are going to go away anytime soon.

Guess where the rich are going to go?

As of Tuesday we hadn’t seen an estimated 2018 tax revenue figure from Springfield, but a trend’s a trend. There’s reason to anticipate that some affluent, mobile residents of Illinois will reach the same conclusions as their brethren from New York that they’d be better off financially in a different locale. The Wall Street Journal reports that growing numbers of wealthy tax refugees from New York, New Jersey and Illinois are showing up in Miami to buy condos.

In my town, one of the city councilman said we have 3 police departments in our town. One works and the other 2 are collecting pensions. The guy across the street from me retired from the police department at 45. For 10 years now he sits on his driveway sunning himself everyday. He's a staunch Republican and thinks socialism is wrong. It's really funny how people who are against socialism benefit from the most. He's curbed his anti-LGBT views once his one daughter announced she was a lesbian which I thought was funny.

So what do you call a group of people who vote Republican but live a life like communists?

The problems of local government cannot be blamed on the federal government. We've gutted all the people at the federal level fighting corruption at the local government level. All the FBI agents I know are all assigned to fighting terrorism. Property taxes will continue to rise at alarming rates because there is no police force fighting organized crime.

People who refuse to pay taxes or pay nothing based on loopholes are not exactly a great loss. Why is losing people having no pride or commitment to where they live important?

Yes, I think people have some civic duty to where they live. What are you suggesting as an alternative?

Income taxes to support the "commons" are completely unnecessary. A properly designed and executed sales tax system would not only lower the tax burden on all classes, but actually increase revenue and substantially decrease paperwork for everybody across the board. The only reason it will never happen is because it would hamper the bureaucracy and corrupt government, and corporations would actually have to pay taxes with no loopholes and shelters.

I cant speak for ketsuko but I think progressive tax rates are wrong.
