I wouldn't try and use human logic on aliens. You want to talk about an extreme difference...at least we are related to even a grape vine, think about a life form that spent 100s of million of years evolving in a completely different path than anything on earth.

Hawking suggested we might not want to meet them since carnivores tend to develop the most brains, so I would be concern as to what they would want with planet earth in the first place. I'm also not sure what is more special, our intelligence or our ability to build and we get both, so I do not think the universe has tons flying around looking anyways.

You also seem to suggest that aliens come to are planet and say, oh no "prime directive" as in for some reason we are special to them. We would be most likely just another form of life to them even if they recognized life as we do, most likely not. We are just another complex chemical reaction to them most likely. The proof, however, remains to be in the pudding.

If we had antigravity technologies we would have colonized and industrialized low Earth orbit long ago which would indeed be observable to anyone in or around the equator with a half decent pair of binoculars at the correct time.

What about there communications, would these not be detectable via a variety of ground-based technologies or are they nonradio wave based?

Just too many detectable things that would give any breakaway civilization away, unless they are 1000s of years ahead of us technologically speaking, in which case why hide at all?

Plan 1) stop humanity from reaching full Spiritual potential.

I wouldn't blame them for my grandmas heart attack. It's not their fault.

They better have ray guns or the hoods will rob and rape them - there is no reason to believe aliens would have any form of empathy or understanding towards us in any way we could understand - more like a machine allowing other machines to occupy it's general vicinity as long as they don't overlap. There is no reason for them to show themselves to the public either unless we are pets, but pets with nukes is a hard pill to swallow.

They are actually coming and space isn't a small place to traverse... Over 32 years to get here or thereabouts. Also, they know what humans are and it won't be like "close encounters", it will be more like "Independence Day"... WHY, you ask?

Powers that be refuse to let the breakaways do so because it would lead to massive upheaveal and loss of power for the governments worldwide because we would all be pissed they lied to us all for so long. As long as the need the genetic materials the powers that be control they are powerless to reveal themselves.

There is already is massive upheaval in this world, do you really think people would even give a dam given our current socioeconomic predicament?

The people would welcome them with open arms if indeed they existed and given the technologies, they would bring to the table.

For a start, they could help clean up with the likes of Fukushima, not to mention our help us meet our current and future energy demands in a clean manner, nevermind also assist with the numerous other maladies our race face.

What are these ""genetic materials"" that cannot be had, in far greater quantities, right across the star system, nevermind the rest of the galaxy that must be obtained form Earth?

It all falls down buddy, because the fact of the matter is in the grand scheme of things, our little world is just not that important.

Humans adjust extremely well to change, even the Catholic church is suggesting that life is out there. If they came we would for a short period of time have disruption, BUT it would all settle down and become the norm, much like in the movie District 9.
