That's absolute baloney. So basically compromise means they MUST agree to wall funding, or it won't pass. Even though there was a vote of 100-0 on a bill to fund the government - wasn't good enough for Trump. This is SOLELY on him. So compromise apparently now means strong arming to get what you want.

If they cave, what happens next? How many more threats of shutdown if Trump doesn't get what he wants? People just don't understand his toddler mentality, I guess. If he has an angle, no matter how poorly planned, no matter who it hurts, if in the end, it makes him look good, he'll do it.

The Democrats are not saying NO because of funding, or morals, or ethics or what ever.. they are saying no because if they give President Trump this political victory - then come 2020 he is all the more stronger.

The Democrats don't care about America's security - they care more about being elected in 2020.

Trump has at least been willing to negotiate, meanwhile Pelosi claims the wall is immoral.

That means she refuses to compromise on something that is immoral.

This is the point.

Many democrats or others are peeved that trump would shut down the government over the wall. I want the wall, but ok, i can see the logic in this.

How are these very same people absolutely livid that the dems are shutting it down for something far less important, trying to harm trump in 2020?

At least trump legitimately wants a wall for security. The dems are pretending something they have all voted for in the past is immoral and thus shutting down the government because they care more about hurting trump than they do federal workers not being paid or food stamps being sent out, or border sceurity.

That is indefensible in my opinion.

Trump ran the election with the promise, and I trust I don't need to dig up all the times this was promised, that he would build a wall - and Mexico would pay for it. That's very different than we will build a wall and I'll need funding and upkeep for it for decades.

5 Billion is not what it will cost to build a wall. Why do people act like 5 billion = wall is built? The wall has been estimated at 70 + billion, not counting all the legal issues with property and other factors in actually putting the wall into place. So he wins this.. then what? Shutdown in 6 months if another 10 billion isn't allocated? Then another shutdown in 2 years unless 30 billion isn't allocated towards the wall? Do you seriously think if he wins this, that he won't do it again.. and again? C'mon.

Considering that Mexico was supposed to be paying for this wall, that's not a great deal for Americans.

As far as the actual point of the wall - immigration has declined since 2007. The majority of immigrants are in 5 states (58%). Some of those have commercial industries that turn a blind eye to immigrants, because they pay them a pittance for hard labor. Tomato pickers in Florida making 5 cents a bushel. And they had to try and fight to make 6 cents! Napa grape pickers - many immigrants there. Again, the 40 + billion dollar (domestic) wine industry turned a blind eye to those workers who had to travel 50 miles each way, each day, to earn a pittance doing hard labor for that industry.

Drugs? Please.. people don't get it. Most drugs enter the U.S. through points of entry, NOT over the border. That is a pittance. It won't stop the largest influx of drugs into the United States. Even smaller operations will find a way over, under, or around the wall.

Homicides or other crimes? A small fraction are from immigrants. And most are localized in the same states where most migrants end up. Focus on those states for immigrants, for workers and criminals, would go a long way to curbing the problem. Which compared to citizens, pales in comparison. But Trump will convince people are are in dire peril of being raped or killed by a Mexican, or that they will be selling our kids drugs. When the reality is it is so much more likely to happen from U.S. citizens.

At the end of the day, this is no way a national emergency. If Trump attempts that, he is simply doing what he has done since he came into office. Skirting policy and norm to get something he wants. As much as he harassed Obama for Executive Orders, he certainly found them useful when he realized he didn't have the political know-how to actually come to a concessions over policies using political methods. His followers blindly claim he is just circumventing "red tape." Except that red tape is actually the glue that holds the nation together. Ignoring it is when someone starts the happy journey towards becoming a dictator.

Declaring a national emergency is much of the same. There is no way this is a national emergency. With immigration declining since 2007, claiming we are doomed if we don't build a wall is so much stupid, it's hard to describe. Yet his peeps are dead-set on him fulfilling his campaign promise. Even though it is completely different than the one he made - he has claimed 20+ plus that Mexico would be the ones paying for the wall.
