SourGrapes is actually quite right. Middle America is armed to the teeth and stubborn as hell. In my mind it's an issue of economic control. Why should a bunch of city folk decide, hands down, how the bread basket operates?
The rural folk know the land. They know how to make things work in a pinch. They know hunting, gathering, and finding water. They have arsenals. Don't try a war with them. The cities may have more people, but the other 95% of the land mass have the knowledge.
I don't wish, nor do I think there will be a civil war. But we all need to start compromising as a nation. The right has offered a lot, and the left has offered nothing. I fear if the left doesn't vote in better leadership soon, incidents might start to happen. Not a war, but definitely violence.

If the EC was removed our President would be elected by the people of NYC and the State of California every election cycle. The thought of that makes my brain hurt, and even though very unlikely, the way society is trending it may very well happen someday soon. Question then is, how does middle America respond?

If the EC was removed...
It means it would have gone through the amendment process delineated in the Constitution which means 3/4's of the states voted in favor.
Question then is, how does middle America respond?
If that were the case they would have participated.

Why would it get violent? Your elected officials who know that without the Electoral College the likelihood of electing a Republican President drops dramatically and wouldn't even consider voting for the amendment.

Again, just a what if...I agree it won't happen. should never happen, but play the what if game with me..lol. It does happen, politicians decide to vote for the amendment and 3 cities or states decide EVERY President would middle America not get upset?

Meh. Y’all bitching about 3 states.... if they’re the majority of the population they should have the largest say. Regardless, to me the whole question looks like this: who should decide the election, banks and corporations, or citizens?

I know what you're saying and thats why the founders were genius's...because if Cali and NY could rule everything there would be no more America.
