If the EC was removed our President would be elected by the people of NYC and the State of California every election cycle. The thought of that makes my brain hurt, and even though very unlikely, the way society is trending it may very well happen someday soon. Question then is, how does middle America respond?

With the second Amendment, as it was intended.

SourGrapes is actually quite right. Middle America is armed to the teeth and stubborn as hell. In my mind it's an issue of economic control. Why should a bunch of city folk decide, hands down, how the bread basket operates?

The rural folk know the land. They know how to make things work in a pinch. They know hunting, gathering, and finding water. They have arsenals. Don't try a war with them. The cities may have more people, but the other 95% of the land mass have the knowledge.

I don't wish, nor do I think there will be a civil war. But we all need to start compromising as a nation. The right has offered a lot, and the left has offered nothing. I fear if the left doesn't vote in better leadership soon, incidents might start to happen. Not a war, but definitely violence.

Oh I agree, Sourgrapes is on point, I guess when I made it a question I was just being somewhat facetious as I have no doubt it would get violent, OR maybe then Cali and NY would separate and leave middle America to get back to the way it we like doing it!!!

Wouldnt even need the states just 3 cities New York, Los angeles and Miami. Make running a campaign incredibly easy through in Atlanta and you could save a lot of campaining. Only need to promise those 4 cities whatever they want and your in.

If the EC was removed...

It means it would have gone through the amendment process delineated in the Constitution which means 3/4's of the states voted in favor.

Question then is, how does middle America respond?

If that were the case they would have participated.

I'm actually inclined to agree with AM on the absurdity of the proposal. It won't happen.

Yeah great point!!! I didn't exactly take the process into account...I just sat here daydreaming about the what if's, but now that you mentioned the constitutional process I will go back to it would get very violent...lol

Why would it get violent? Your elected officials who know that without the Electoral College the likelihood of electing a Republican President drops dramatically and wouldn't even consider voting for the amendment.

Again, just a what if...I agree it won't happen. should never happen, but play the what if game with me..lol. It does happen, politicians decide to vote for the amendment and 3 cities or states decide EVERY President would middle America not get upset?

I know what you're saying and thats why the founders were genius's...because if Cali and NY could rule everything there would be no more America.

Meh. Y’all bitching about 3 states.... if they’re the majority of the population they should have the largest say. Regardless, to me the whole question looks like this: who should decide the election, banks and corporations, or citizens?

Then the Constitution functioned as it was intended and everyone needs to suck it up at that point since you are the one that put those politicians in place.

False equivalence.

What do banks and corporations have to do with the EC?

And no, not how it works. We have a representative republic. To do as you suggest would remove representation from that for all of those fly-over States. You know, the ones that feed the country?

a reply to: projectvxn. Most of the ec are bought and paid for by the corporations and banks. And our republic is anything but representative. As any brief review of how congress and presidents act vs what people actually want as shown by polling will demonstrate. Anytime legislation is between the well being/will of the public vs corporate gain it goes to corporate gain every time. You know, the ones that pay for the campaigns?

The hell are you talking about? Do you even know what the EC is? Any idea how it functions at all?

Its not that I disagree with you in principle, but I dont think you understand the EC.

No big loss, there never really was an America. It was just a marketing trick to sell flags and second rate stuff.

LOL
