Agreed, and it's funny to see the debates on what constitutes an "X" generation aircraft

Are we sure his last name isn't "Obvious"?

The Navy wants smaller, more dispersed aircraft carriers to help control the Pacific but needs larger aircraft for long range missions. Do they want to explore 2 different aircraft carrier classes or perhaps they may settle on lower deployed aircraft #s for the smaller carriers?

They're looking at more LHA/LHDs for task forces and sea control, and using the CSGs for more important missions like kicking doors open. That would take some of the pressure off the CSGs and big deck fleet. They'll probably settle on something using better engines, like AETP, and F-14 sized or slightly larger. With an enclosed weapons bay, insanely efficient engines, and room for fuel, they'll get some pretty good range numbers out of it.

In terms of high $$ contracts - Northrop is getting GBSD & B-21+, Lockheed has the F-35, Boeing has ?.

F/A-18E/F and F-15X with some dashes of the MQ-25A.

There's a biggish push for Loyal Wingman UCAVs, too, but we have no idea who will get what in the end.

If a new recon fastmover was in pre-production, who would have won that?

Lockheed is the main benefactor of Blackswift/FaCET/MoTr/AFRE/SR-72 or whatever they are calling the TBCC quest this fiscal year.

Navy saying what every other nation aspiring to build a 6th Generation aircraft is saying.

Here is a thought, have you all heard about low code which is for example microsoft power BI and the like, basically a complete amateur like me can write some pretty cool applications because I dont need to know how to code, I just need to pull together modules of pre-written code.

So on top of this rapid manufacturing, we could also be looking at low code solutions to integrate aircraft systems somehow cutting down on the billions of lines of code we need to develop and debug each time, a sort of common operating system and architecture.

Sigh the reason the Digital age has come about is all about cutting costs and streamlining workflow. Also why 3D printing and Rapid Prototyping has come into its own.Think sometimes the bean counters need to justify their existence and cause problems.Only thing I can see with new composite airframes is longevity.

Thats always been the problem.Have multiple aircraft types with different parts and logistic paths. One thing the Israelis got right by standardizing their armour divisions.
Other way is have a standardized part and logistical trail between all the manufacturers and just use different airframe shapes but use a standard way of manufacturing them.Makes training a lot easier too.
Maybe Im just dreaming that...
