Well as a Yankee living in the UK, I gotta say Led Zeppelin spanks the hell outta The Scorpians. But I give Germany the edge in beer. So in the scheme of important things....it's a tie.

Led Zeppelin is fantastic. The whole music is better than the best german song can reach. If we're honest. The Beatles. David Bowie....
So much good artists work. The books!?! So good. From Dickens to Adams. And the theatre! You had Shakespeare. Awesome stuff. And the sciences, Newton and Darwin! Holy #! Merry Christmas!

You win. Take the crown

If only we could take the best of every nation and apply it to humanity as a whole. We should be building spaceships to unass ourselves from this prison we call earth. But no, we gotta bitch about towels and walls. We are a sad species aren't we. However, I am on my 8th Hop House 13, listening to ACDC WAAAAAAAY to loud, so what do I know.

There's nothing wrong with Germany. I lived there many years ago as a child and I thought it was gorgeous. (Rinteln, British Army hospital base where my Dad worked.)

Well, some say Merkel is the daughter of Adolf but I'm not sure. Germans are pretty much like most other peoples. Customs, traditions, language. (Lederhosen, knee-slapping dancing, beer. Oh, and bratwurst.)

If you want to laugh at the English, Google "Morris Dancers".

That's a bunch of nonsense. Great Britain was not a Mongol Horde. They brought many people out of the dark ages. While others only practiced theft and exploitation, great Britan brought the world to a higher standard of life.

They are in a different class. Even Rome could not beat them. The Nazis spent years beating the crap out of the UK and still couldn't break them.

The rest of Europe was a mess after much less. Also, the UK didn't need the Marshal plan for as long as the rest of Europe because they are hard working innovators and the rest of Europe starves in bad weather and can't make anything worth a damn without starting off with other peoples ideas.

You sound like a whiny child. Every nation tried their hand at empire. They just sucked at it because they were weak and not committed beyond profit.

That's why your country is not as great as the UK. You guys never worked harder to deserve more. You didn't sacrifice more and that's why you criticize others who did. You know they don't need you as you need them and it's a bad revelation for you.

You are all scared. You are scared because you are weaker than the UK and desperately need her.

You would rather see her at your feet instead of standing tall next to you.

Oh, you are German? Hahaha. Why don't you guys burn down Rome again you barbarians?

Different class. Barbarians never built an empire of their own. They just tried to take from others. They could not conquer the UK. Even now they can't no matter the method of soft conquest used.

You guys always wanted to go back into your forests. Go.

That's why most IT, Medical and Scientific jobs are filled in by other Europeans, right? Jesus, you're sounding like the typical Brit douchebag that thinks they are really great. Ask Ireland how great they were during the famine. As India if they wanted to be brought from the dark ages, as you call it. Colonialism was never right.

Also, how big must your ego be that a country needs to prepend their name with Great. Either that or small dick syndrome.

OP.... 1.6 Billion is not a big number, we spend more than that a day on stuff like education, defence, health care and so on.

Its pretty small....

Now as for job loses this is talking about 25,000 job losses in just one small part of the tourism sector.

Land Rover alone are talking bout something lie 5000 job-cuts following a no-deal Brexit and thats just one company. The government has said they expect the same number to go in the city pretty much instantaneously following Brexit and some estimations for finance job loses in London go as high as 75,000. The issue though is the impact that has on local communities and businesses. Landrover cut 5000 jobs that 5000 jobs out of the local economy and that has a ripple effect. All of a sudden that little corner shop that sold lunch's to the guy working in the plan has to shut down so small local business goes bust.

Its not even just that there will be job cuts but also a problem with required skills, the Nursing profession is a really good example of this. There are something like 30,000 nursing vacancies across England and Wales, when you look at the number of immigrants coming from outside the uk to fill these posts after 2016 the graph isn't pretty, its fallen to almost negligible numbers. That trend can be repeated across other sectors which is why the government has announced today they are removing the cap for some critical skilled workers coming into the UK. Only problem is who would want to emigrate to the UK right now when everyone knows its looking over the edge of a economic cliff.

So not only are loads of jobs at risk but we can't get the workers that we need.

You talk about seasonal workers, well how are farmers going to cope because us brits don't like fruit picking much and if we have a no-deal then that army of seasonal workers that is the foundation to UK farming is gone.

So yeah lets not try to pretend that this is just about 25,000 jobs this is way much more complex.

First off I'm an American. Spaniard too so I shouldn't have much to gain from aggrandizing the UK. I give credit where it is due.

India and colonialism have little to do with the fall of Rome and the collective regression into barbarism that the UK very much got Europe out of. France too but France competed with the UK and both made the other advance beyond comfort and profit.

Also, those IT jobs and so on are filled where? Where do they go to practice what is not possible in their own countries? Yeah. Same places as always. The only places that keep human progress pushing forward into the future.

India seems to send lots of immigrants to the UK. They seem to have benefitted from being a British colony since now they have access to the markets and jobs that others are literally dying to get to.

Yeah but its not just them....

I think this is part of the problem, so many people are so rightly pissed off that they have basically just gone # the system with out actually thinking through the consequences.

Brexit it was a big "stick it to the man vote" in my opinion.

The only problem with that is that its going to totally screw over the little guys, like those 5000 folks working in the car factory down the road who wind up getting fired because the firm says its just easier now to do it all on the content....

I respect the reply.

The 1.6bill was an example of something which would create tax revenue that massively outweighs the ski resort tax revenues.

Yes, 25k is relatively small.

I don’t buy the Land Rover blaming Brexit. They are the only car manufacturers to produce 95% Diesel engines. Which are being phased out. They have only just moved into electric and never touched petrol. The new regs over diesels force the Kaguar Land Rover job losses. In my opinion.

The immigration strategy announced in parliament today addresses your point. Interestingly bbc posted some graphs on their main page today showing there are more test of world immigrants in nhs than eu ones.

I don’t think farmers will struggle. Again, the immigration plan has covered this.

Sorry to be brief, I’m not being obtuse, I’m in the middle of a minor crisis. I will come back and post sources... they’re all surprisingly from the bbc on this occasion! Mostly on their main page today too.

If I don’t return then you can use it against me. I promise I’ll post the links.

FFS, how predictable.

Not true - any facts to support that?

Jesus, you're sounding like the typical Brit douchebag that thinks they are really great.

I really don't like pointing out the obvious but....considering the size of our country we haven't done too bad really.

Do you mind me asking what nationality you are?

Ask Ireland how great they were during the famine. As India if they wanted to be brought from the dark ages, as you call it. Colonialism was never right.

And is your country of origin completely free of colonialism?

Do the sins of the fathers get passed on to their children?

Where exactly is the relevance to today?

Also, how big must your ego be that a country needs to prepend their name with Great.

Proof positive of ignorance dictating one's opinion.

The largest island of The British Isles is called Great to differentiate it from Brittany in France.

Geoffrey of Monmouth in his pseudohistorical Historia Regum Britanniae (c. 1136) refers to the island of Great Britain as Britannia major ("Greater Britain"), to distinguish it from Britannia minor ("Lesser Britain"), the continental region which approximates to modern Brittany, which had been settled in the fifth and sixth centuries by Celtic migrants from the British Isles

en.wikipedia.org...(place_name)

I have gradually come to the opinion that all the anti-British rhetoric and bigotry lies in a deep rooted jealousy.

Well those people at the car factories are not really the "little guys" are they? Maybe compared to the bankers yeah, but these car factory workers are paid quite well thank you, the average pay for a production operator at JLR (whom you were referring to) is just under £40k per year, which is massive!

The little guys are the small farmers, who because of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy, get paid per hectare, so it's the little farmers that lose out to the big farmers. Though, I do concede that the EU have improved their CAP scheme.

The little guys are the small-scale fishermen who have lost their jobs and livelihood (along with their community), because of the EU's Common Fisheries Policy.

There have been hundred's of thousands of jobs lost over the years because we're in the EU! These are the little guys, who have had no voice and no-one ever sticks up for them. When we leave the EU, some of the these jobs will become available again.

I would consider myself one the the "little guys", please tell me how I'm going to be screwed over and become directly poorer, when we leave the EU. Bear in mind I try to shop locally and mainly eat British made/produced foods.
