"Aluminium" is not a word that's used in American English. Don't know why that's such a problem for you guys, lol.

Who said its a problem and who is arguing if its used or not used? WTF are you on man?

You make absurd statements trying to speak for a quarter of a billion people

You said Americans would look at you and not know aluminium because there is an I before the U but would know Colour.

and you cant see how absurd that is

both words are identical and just have one letter added or subtracted either before one letter or after.

You seriously cant see it?

And no, it doesn't reflect on a lack of education or whatever other nonsense you're saying about that.

Yes its way beyond that now and more psychological in nature

Americans don't have any special obligation to know how British people say "aluminum," of all things, lol.

Who said they do?

The only one that is making statements that paint with a brush so wide is you.

You make absolute statements and are shown to be very foolish and ignorant by simple google searches then reply with obfuscation like these last few posts here.

You guys obviously have a problem with it, demonstrated by your repeated long-winded posts about it.

You guys are arguing that Americans do know the word, and arguing that we should. Neither of which is true.

Since aluminum is a metal, then a similar, slightly-different word, would be most logical to assume that it's probably referring to a similar, slightly-different meaning, like a special alloy or something. But of course, that's being logical about it.

There's always the illogical explanation that people are just using different words for common words, for no reason, other than to argue and throw insults and banter about it, lol.

Everyone is very impressed by your amazing prowess with the word "aluminium."

Again, it's not logical to ask me to prove a negative. There's no such thing as proof that something doesn't exist.

Why not stop this BS and just quote me asking you to prove a negative and not your recorded history claim?

But if something doesn't exist, then it doesn't exist. And that's the default conclusion.

where are you going with this

recorded history doesn't exist so you just lied?

I mean this is becoming really delusional bud.

I asked how one can make such statement and to show what path one take to gain this knowledge.

Can you prove it?

And again, blaming Oliver's habitual upright walk, on his cage... would make sense if there was more than one example of it happening, in all of recorded history. But no such luck. There have been thousands of examples of monkeys that were caged, without suddenly starting to walk like a human.

blaming?

I have no idea what you are on about , blaming?

Its called an explanation for his condition, there is no blame, blame would be on the persons who mistreated him.

You sure English is your 1st language or that you even learned it in school past the 3rd grade?

Now of all those 1000s of example that you must have studied how many were identical conditions?

So that's a very lame excuse for Oliver's human-like traits.

excuses and blaming?

If you actually read the words that are posted and understood them you would realize I made no excuse and didn't blame anything.

*sigh*

Your repeated requests about recorded history... are asking me to prove a negative. You're asking me to prove that something doesn't exist in recorded history.

It's always illogical and nonsensical to even entertain the idea of proving a negative. There's no such thing as proving a negative lol.

...And you're busting me for using the words "blaming" and "excuse," which I used in completely correct usage. Hmmm I'm starting to wonder about you, lol.

We are replying to yourt off topic nonsese not bringing it up

try keeping up mate

So if anyone is having issues with it its you as you cannot let it go, discussing how aluminium and colour are spelt in a thread about a monkey and saying how all Americans would know one word but not the other.

You guys are arguing that Americans do know the word, and arguing that we should. Neither of which is true.

No try keeping up

Since aluminum is a metal

actually its an alloy which a mixture of a few metals but fact don't matter to you as long as its close enough but far enough to cause obfuscation when talking specifics.

Everyone is very impressed by your amazing prowess with the word "aluminium."

are you posting to yourself in replies to me now?

I couldn't care less about the word, how is it relevant to the thread?

I quote exactly what I respond to.

Stop with the nonsense

I asked simple questions about quoting in which you reply with more obfuscation.

Asking you to prove you can make such statements and giving you a basic idea of how to go about proving it is not asking to prove a negative unless you are now claiming recorded history doesn't exist, your logic leads you into absurdity and the more obfuscating you do just makes the already absurd just delusional.

...And you're busting me for using the words "blaming" and "excuse," which I used in completely correct usage. Hmmm I'm starting to wonder about you, lol.

Busting you?

NO just pointing that an explanation has a different meaning than blame and excuse.

In most English even American English these 3 words all have separate definitions

What English are you speaking?

Man let's drop it, please. I shouldn't be discussing specific words' spelling and meaning with someone who just wrote "nonsese" and who doesn't consistently capitalize sentences, or end them with punctuation marks. And who thinks he's busted me for properly using the words "blame" and "excuse." Wow, lol.

The fact is that you and your buddy have been banging on about the word "aluminum" and "aluminium," including your last post that I'm now responding to. Everything I said is true, "aluminium" isn't used (or familiar) in American English, and yet you're still arguing against that. I'm terribly sorry that you guys are so upset about it, lol.

^Right, it's an alloy. A metal alloy. Please don't tell me that you think the fact of it being an alloy... means that it's not metal? LOL!!

are you posting to yourself in replies to me now?

...What? lol

I couldn't care less about the word, how is it relevant to the thread?

It's not, except you and oldcarpy just spent half of your day posting about it LOL!!

I quote exactly what I respond to.

NO arguing against it just saying you can only say so for yourself not all Americans.

Please don't tell me that you think the fact of it being an alloy... means that it's not metal? LOL!!

Yes it a mixture of metals which makes it an alloy.

But close enough is good enough for you and facts and definitions mean nothing.

Yeah you really don't understand the concept. There is no such thing as proving a negative. You just don't get it. I'm sorry.

You're asking me to prove the absence of something in recorded history. Your request doesn't make sense. It's illogical. Nonsensical.

...And now you think you're busting me over the word "busting?" Really dude? Because I used that word correctly as well.

So let's recap the last few hours. You're somehow really angry to learn that Americans are unfamiliar with the British word "aluminium," and you refuse to believe it, for some reason.

You thought you busted me for my correct usage of the words "blame," "excuse," "bust," and "metal."

Oh well, lol.

Here we go again with your obsession with spelling and typos. Very OCD which would explain a lot.

You think it took me "half a day" to post that? LOL!

So quote me asking you this and not what was asking and explaining twice now

it quite simple

Then I can hold your hand and walk you thorough it if need be.

...And now you think you're busting me over the word "busting?" Really dude? Because I used that word correctly as well.

NO

Who said you used words incorrectly?

So let's recap the last few hours. You're somehow really angry to learn that Americans are unfamiliar with the British word "aluminium," and you refuse to believe it, for some reason.

Yeah lets

No

I said I have friends born and bred and live in the State right now that do know.

I gave an example of where it could see on American TV.

I said nothing about believing you.

How can anyone believe a person that thinks they can speak for all Americans.

You thought you busted me for my correct usage of the words "blame," "excuse," "bust," and "metal."

I am just going have to agree actually

I just reread all of our interactions and you have been right all along

Please forgive me

^Sorry, I don't know what that means. (Is it poetry?)

NO arguing against it just saying you can only say so for yourself not all Americans.

Wrong. I can say that a certain obscure British word is unfamiliar to Americans, in general.

Yes it a mixture of metals which makes it an alloy. But close enough is good enough for you and facts and definitions mean nothing.

...You actually think that a metal alloy... is not metal?! Sorry, you're just wrong. Metal alloys... are metal.

"Metal" and "alloy" are not mutually-exclusive words. You can tell by the existence of the phrase, "metal alloy."

NO I was replying tour posts that were talking about spelling in a thread about monkeys.

What are saying "NO" about? My statement is true: You did just spend half your day arguing about the word "aluminum" and "aluminium."

I understand and sympathize with the temptation to wind things down, but that obviously wasn't working out. If there's still a need to negotiate some sort of peace agreement, I recommend PMs.

In the thread itself, let's please stick to the topic and respect the rights of ATSers to hold their own views about it.

Thanks.
