the reason the need all those fake islands is because their navy isn't up to the job.

what do they think will happen when a few 2000LBS bunker busters tare each island apart

China is a real threat but in their neck of the woods, there is to much space between the US and China for a real war and if China attacks Taiwan or decides for whatever crazy reason to give the green light to lil kim

Downplaying China is what got us to where we are today.

“The report does not claim that China’s military is currently 10 feet tall, nor, I think, certainly does China either,” said Sbragia. “It clearly faces a number of challenges, and Beijing is working to overcome those, which is really an important point.”
“It is likely that China will seek to build a military that is equal to or in some cases superior to the US military or the military of any great power that China perceives as a potential threat,” added Sbragia, a former US Marine attaché with Washington’s embassy in Beijing.“

There is a forum for military projects and nukes fall under them. I'd suggest a topic there, penroc and Arnie.

That track doesn’t look like a maglev type, there is going to be some friction generated?

I know it’s the lowest tech of the test but assume it moves so fast the heat doesn’t accumulate to buckle the track?

I can’t wait to see Mach 8 on a 10 mile rail, maybe the future of train travel :-)

The record for the test track is somewhere just short of Mach 8.5, set in 2003.

2 words space shuttle

any0one who has been on the shuttle has a cool Mach 25 patch

we have had materials that can withstand super high temp and sped(re entry speeds)

so material science isnt the problem i think as much as the propulsion tech and materials being the weak link

G’day Zaph Just found this vid on yt. Talking Mach 10. Do you high flyers know anything about these possible tests. Tried to find topic but this thread is the closest i could find. Vid nearly 22min long. And seems to refer to the tic tac craft.

If this is news worthy someone might want to create a thread with my blessing lol.

Cool, video to start the day, very interesting to say the least. Had no idea we were in partnership with brazil on this kind of level. At the same time I really don't see what they would contribute. Why would we share such advanced tech with them. But the 17 second 440 mile lightning bolt was interesting.

Now the claim is aircraft fire lasers infront of them to superheat the atmosphere and thus can obtain more speed. But this seems counter intuitive. If the issue at high speeds is the heat of the atmosphere, then how would shooting a laser to superheat the atmosphere allow the craft through faster? You would think you would want to cool the atmosphere down infront of you. But at those speeds and the many unknowns in could be a double negative type situation.

Either way like I said thanks for sharing nice little gem to start the day

I do agree 772STi - the lightning bolt and its length and duration connected with the distances between NASA and the 138th Fighter Wing and also the same distance between the 53rd Weapons Evaluation Group and the 118th Air Intelligence Wing very interesting indeed.

I don't know if this guy is on to something or if he started off on the right track and then just connected too many dots in excitement.

Hotter air is less dense, which is why on a hot day/location aircraft either need a lot more power, or reduced weight to take off. If you fire a laser into the air in front of the aircraft and heat it up, the air becomes less dense and easier to travel through. It provides less lift, but once you're going, as long as you don't lose all lift, you'll be ok, and if you use it on a missile then you really don't have to worry about it as much. In theory, firing a laser ahead of the aircraft, at high speed, will reduce the amount of power required to get to and maintain that speed, requiring less fuel and increasing efficiency and range.

If this really was a test of a laser channel, the chances of it being in those locations isn't likely. It's possible, but usually they'd be out west, or out over the water.
