It's a colloquialism for institutionalized.

I'm sure every effort is made to look for relatives and foster care for the children though.

By that reasoning, we should never put Americans in jail when they break the law if they happen to have children.

There are many children in the US Foster care system because their parents are in prison.

About 5.1 million children in the US have an incarcerated parent.
www.aecf.org...

When parents break the law, children suffer. That's a fact.
But illegal immigration is... illegal.

Adults do not have their children removed for trespassing which is the same illegality as this.

They are not authorized by law to be on "our land" so they are charged by our law for it.

We are just not sure how to best remove them for it but taking their kids over 5 from them is not the way in any civilized society.

Equating it to felons is disingenuous and lazy logic.

DHS Secretary Nielsen slams 'irresponsible' media, says no 'policy of separating families at the border'

The head of the Department of Homeland Security bashed the media Sunday for their reporting on the increasingly volatile immigration controversy, writing in a string of tweets: “We do not have a policy of separating families at the border. Period.

Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen added: “This misreporting by Members, press & advocacy groups must stop. It is irresponsible and unproductive. As I have said many times before, if you are seeking asylum for your family, there is no reason to break the law and illegally cross between ports of entry.”

Introduction

Article 31 of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees provides as follows:

1.The Contracting States shall not impose penalties, on account of their illegal entry or presence, on refugees who, coming directly from a territory where their life or freedom was threatened in the sense of Article 1, enter or are present in their territory without authorization, provided they present themselves without delay to the authorities and show good cause fort heir illegal entry or presence.

As long as they turn themselves in to ICE, they aren't supposed to be charged for a crime. PERIOD

So, they aren't separating families at the border?
That's a relief.

That must be the Republican law.
Because the Democrat law says otherwise. Our president said so.

This has little to do with faith and everything to do with human cynicism.

Illegal families are exploiting or seeking to exploit a loophole in the US asylum laws that make it impossible for the country to hold children longer than their parents (Flores Consent Decree). In the past, the bad optics of holding parents longer than children would more or less ensure that the parents would be released with their kids ensuring they would disappear and never show up for that asylum hearing.

The Trump Admin in following the law is choosing to ignore the bad optics which creates the conditions. It is the illegals who choose to separate their families in trying to exploit the legal loophole.

Congress could also fix the problem, says Lowry. It could change the rules so the Flores consent decree will no longer apply and it can appropriate more money for family shelters at the border.

This is what the Trump administration has called for, but Congress doesn’t seem interested. From the Democrats’ perspective, I suppose it’s better to keep the family separation issue alive. It’s win-win for the Dems. Either illegal immigrants get to take advantage of the seeking asylum loophole or the Dems get to rip the president for being “inhumane.”

Ask yourself why the Democrats don't come out supporting the administration which has called for a fix to this. You would think they'd be all over it considering they're the ones crying about moral imperatives and beating their Bibles all of a sudden. On the other hand, so long as families are being separated, they can also choose to feed everyone's TDS, too.

Those midterms are indeed coming.

And a problem that is fixed is no longer a problem they can campaign on.

Has anything even gone to committee? Democrats don't have much say in getting anything to the floor, or keeping it off. Do they?

I wonder how the Freedom Caucus feels about it?

Yes.

Are their children institutionalized?

Are their families permitted to visit them? To communicate with them?

Let's see what do you think happens if a couple is serial rapists killers and they've no other family. What do you think happens to their children once they're caught and sent to jail?

Are you aware that drug cartels force people to become their mules? By your logic the parents in the Middle East are irresponsible parents. Like when ISIS presence precedes them.

Look if ISIS invades your country, that's not your fault. But if ISIS is occupying your country and taking say every 5 year old girl to their camp, and you have a baby girl that's on you.

Yeah.
"Be responsible and don't have sex. Oh BTW you're not welcome here. I don't care if you have no where to go."

There are plenty of homeless. You know what happened to the woman who took one in and was brutally murdered? Oh yeah that's right she was brutally murdered.

You cannot have open borders and a welfare state, it is unsustainable, the world has finite resources, know your facts, understand reality. What you're trying to do in terms of the future of america, is no different from jumping off a rooftop, do not fight reality, reality cannot be denied no matter how much you call it a social construct.

If you trespass a vast amount of land with animals that rape and murder children, with high probability, guess what you deserve to have your children taken away.

Not everyone that makes it in, is a peachy angel of the lord. Securing the borders, is about stopping the bad apples from getting in. Not to mention, yes there are good people, but you can't force charity through taxation upon the entire american population. It is not sustainable.

I mean what of the rumored global economic collapse in the horizon? If Mexico turns into a new Venezuela, what do you think would be the response from the left? Why open the gates wide open.

There are finite resources, even Americans are struggling to get by, we can't afford to let in millions of unskilled nonenglish speaking migrants. We cannot put carrots to tempt them here, to entice them here.

We already have strong vetting process here. It hasn't changed since Obama. And no the left does not want open border. You have been spoon fed that propaganda.
Also children can't help what their parents do (in your case irresponsible parents) so we shouldn't ignore them. There are organizations, including Christian ones, who try to help families (the ones that want to live normal lives we enjoy) in war torn countries. People with compassion would consider those poor children.
