Hello Nyiah, I don't think we have been introduced.
I apologize if we have and if not. I am so stressed I don't care if I put my shoes on the right way
I'm pretty sure I've seen you around here & there in threads, but I don't think we've spoken < waves >
So I am curious. Which update is it that is causing all this havoc?
We have a computer forum where I may take this question.
Windows 10's Update 1803 is causing all kinds of havoc for people. One of the more common "breaking of computers" I've read about is what happened to
me & my husband on our respective computers. When the update is installed enough to need to reboot the computer, it does, but instead of completing
the update, gets you stuck in a loop where you have to select your keyboard set-up, then takes you to a selection screen that is virtually useless.
You can't Renew, Rollback, Choose Another System, Continue or anything. All you can do is just reboot & go right back to it, it's a hopeless loop of
frustration.
Even though I made a USB with Win10 on it to try to repair whatever it broke, that didn't help at all. Hell, I couldn't even boot in Safe Mode, or
access the Boot Menu to begin with.
There's some articles about it,
this
article describes that loop.
The only thing I could do was reinstall Win10, nothing else worked. It re-downloaded the update & that went off without a hitch the second time. I'm
not sure what was wrong with Win10 before, but there was something it did
not like in there & it went all to crap quick.
At the moment, my laptop appears to be functioning fine post-reinstall, but my husband's desktop is still without sound (he's not a happy camper)
There's still issues despite a clean reinstall, that being one of them. I've been reading that Black Screens of Death are happening for certain
brands, mouse function is slowed/not working, etc. They didn't vet this update too well before they let it loose.
If you reinstall, you
may end up with a Windows.old file in the Windows folder. If it works right like it did for me, you'll have personal
files like photos and such auto-saved to it & not erased. However, I stress it might not work, because my husband's stuff is lost, it didn't make a
.old file for his. Nothing particularly important, mostly backgrounds of his, but he's still not pleased.
I was so paranoid about that happening to me that I transferred my entire photo & videos folder to his computer when it was back up to par, before
mine could force the update (I've never seen an update force itself when there's an active file transfer) It was around 150 gigs of pictures & home
videos, and took 7 hours to complete, but it's on his computer now. Turns out I didn't need to do that (they were all in the .old file) but you can
never be too cautious anymore.
Any Who. I like your avatar and you sound so "active" it leaves me breathless. Go Girl.
< chuckles > It's hard to go wrong with kittens, and Giorgio Kitten is adorably apt for the site
I'm not as active as I should be, but I'm working on getting off my butt more often. We got lazy this past winter, more than normal, and we (the
adults) can feel it now. Probably should have kept up on the daily after dinner walks, knee-deep snow & single digit temps or not.
