Now that I reflect, telling us that Salt-Peter was in the chow, could have been a psychological tool. My least favorite bootcamp chore was standing "watch" over the guys sleeping. Standing at ease, for Four hours in the middle was so boring.

Salt-peter makes no sense for "keeping it in the pants". That is a nitrate, which up's blood pressure, which is one of the main things that boner pills do. I would think it has the opposite effect and may have been why people were horny, lol

My understanding is that most seem to be medically unfit to serve theirtime because of various medications and the military is getting rid of dead weight and not jus trans.

So two steps backward and one step forward.

spending bill and cloud gathering action is steps backwards

this is a small step forward.

at this pace we will be in 1984 real soon

No everyone should not be able to serve period. They should be able to serve if they meet established criteria. They should be able to serve if they are willing to sacrifice the things that after necessary to best serve.

IMO it's the same as allowing women to serve. No different standards, just meet the criteria with no special treatment or stay home.

I'm sure he means anyone who can make it through boot camp should be allowed to join.

And I agree.

My sister has dwarfism and only barely passed boot camp.

She has very short legs.

She served for many years as a doctor. Even went over to the middle east a few times during battles.
She once told me the story of being on a ship and watching the oil fields burn when sadom was torching them all.

I really don't think that guy you are "debating" has any idea of the real worth of a human being.

Your sister is obviously extremely smart and talented. That far outweighs physical challenges.

She is very smart. Straight A's all through school. She became what I hear is one of the most difficult type of doctors, a radiologist.

You'll be happy to know she is a republican who voted for trump.

I should ask her how she feels about transgender people in the military.

The transgender discussion looks like it is going to be kept out of the military. That's a good thing.

Having read the report they don't want people that have gone through surgery or want to. So transgendered will be fine in military as long as they done get surgery. If they choose to serve that seems resonable.

Here is where they discussed surgery.

"Based on the work of the Panel and the Department’s best military judgment, the Department of Defense concludes that there are substantial risks associated with allowing the accession and retention of individuals with a history or diagnosis of gender dysphoria and require, or have already undertaken, a course of treatment to change their gender. "

From what I've seen, it looks like the recommendations are that transgenders who do not have gender dysphoria and who are willing to serve as their birth gender are completely welcome to serve.

It's the ones who have gender dysphoria and who need medical care and/or psychological treatment who are being kept from service at this time.

it makes sense.

if another troop tells co hey i feel like i am a girl or boy when they are the opposite then that is section 8 material.

however if you were born with a nice rack and big boy tool then hey you are just being yourself.

if you cut yoself to get those attributes then that is more 8 material.

And that makes since. We don't let the sick or mentally ill into combat.
Remember they did a long study before they decided on this. I honestly don't think this is political.

I think that this is about synthetic hormones, that can act quite unpredictable. There was a time when people thought that taking steroids is OK also with little negative effects. It took some time for the negative health effects to show and become common knowledge. I also think that the effect of birth control pills is currently played down similarly.
The human body is a well tuned machine and I think that the technology for hormone tuning is still quite barbaric and can easily mess up a persons body and mind.

uhhh for those of us who have served in the military this comes at no surprise

the military does not exist to serve your needs you exist to serve theirs

that's the mentality of the military this feel good BS has no place there

Let me ask you something. Many soldiers join the military for an education. They join to serve their needs, and they get a whole bunch of money for doing so. Why is that the only valid need, why is getting medical treatment not valid? Perhaps you could put restrictions on it such that you can only do it once you're no longer a combat troop, or even after service... but why is one need more valid than the other?

I guess them getting up a ladder on a sinking naval warships means more the the twenty abled men behind them who could’ve made it up the ladder in case of a sinking ship.

Naval vessels are a great place for gender segregation. It's relatively easy to make entire ships men or women, at which point trans isn't an issue.

It's harder for the army, but still doable (just need segregated divisions, so that women only have to physically carry other women).

I've spoken to several military cooks on this subject, it was used for a time (perhaps when you were in?) but later studies proved it was more of a placebo effect than anything else. It was tried in the prisons too, it might still be in use in some prisons,

Well, as far as combat goes, I guess that would require special attention and something to ease into but for everything else it shouldn't matter.

A woman is going to have issues carrying an injured man off the battlefield. However, you can have entire ships of women, and in the Air Force it doesn't matter. So really, if you can create battlefield logistics such that rather than mixed units you have gender segregated units where women reinforce women and men reinforce men, it shouldn't matter too much. And in the process it doubles our fighting force.

Given how good the US military is at logistics I believe this is 100% within the realm of possibility.
