Oh, I think I see. You're of the opinion a transgender person is mentally unstable? Do you think the same of a gay person too? But come to think of it, I don't recall my mental facilities ever being questioned or tested when I joined.

Don't ask about your service? Why? Did you get dishonorably discharged or could this be a case of stolen valor?

I'm not afraid, even though you didn't ask, I was in the USN and my rate was CTO (which merged with IT shortly after I was Honorably Discharged).

Have you seen any polls with feedback on this issue from current service members? I wonder how the majority of those who are serving, feel about transgendered men/women joining the military?

The U.S. military needs people with sound minds. Not people that are confused about what underwear to wear, or which latrine to use. Not to mention, the "medical benefits" they'll receive to "change" their gender, if "accepted".
This is not a problem at all to the national defense. It's only an issue for a small percentage of the mentally ill that can pass the MEPS station. I know, "Navy S.E.A.L." served "hard" and now thinks he's a woman.... Blah and blah. He's a failure! To the Navy and men in general.

A very small percentage of normal people even make it to any branch of service. America doesn't need troops that can't handle their own gender, let alone duty, honor, oath, loyalty, and a sound mind.
The queer are free to be queer, in the civilian world. That's what American troops, men and women, swear to defend. Until we can get the queer "mental health" issues back on the radars... Like before 1973 when it was considered a personal mental issue and not a "national" one.
This is a good move by the POTUS.

damn right it's a mental problem, your perception of self is totally detached from the reality of your physical body

it's clearly an anomaly in the system you may not "feel good" admitting that there is clearly something not normal happening there but it's still going to exist anyway
