The real crime is that a US citizen (and likely a veteran) is having to beg for money to survive.

"That's 3 more years, what's wrong with this?"

Absolute. Insanity.

They lock the dumpsters here in Europe as well. SSDT. And with all this surveillance crap a little bit of civil disobedience mutates to a whole James Bond movie with counter intel tricks like... gloves, scarfs 'n basecaps.

Kinda funny if it wouldn't be so fcking sad.

aye my fiance works in catering and the food industry and she worked in a citry centre cafe in Glasgow, they offered their left over food to the local homeless shelters and they have to refuse it all .
I think she said their policy was for public health , that if someone got sick.
Surely they wouldnt get sick from sandwiches made fresh that day madness !

we are so wasteful as a species.
Im sure they even lock the bins at asda now , because alot of the immigrants and for lack of a better word, hippies ,go dumpster diving, my friend even lived with some of the hippies at faslane and he took them dumpster diving to a few supermarkets and they had to break into the bins!

When MJ was legalized here in CO clueless transient types wandered in, assumed they'd find work in the pot industry but the ability to smoke copious amounts of pot isn't a desirable skill set. Now they're unemployed, here to stay.

If they have criminal records/addiction issues, they don't qualify for the MJ industry or normal jobs. Ranchers/the local dairy hires hardworking transient types but it's tough, dirty work, typically panhandling is the much preferred easier route.

The ACLU here in Colorado is protecting beggar's right to panhandle/"earn a living." Some towns have been negatively impacted and local businesses are suffering. Denver's 16th mall gets a wash down as needed because it frequently smells like a toilet. The beautiful tourist/college town of Durango has been battling the ACLU trying to keep beggars out of town with little luck.

Downtown Durango panhandling survey pitches ideas – some unique, some possibly illegal

The little country town near me gets a few but not like Denver, Durango etc. Our town isn't a tourist destination, the surrounding wilderness/mountains are but you won't find panhandlers up there LOL. The truck stop by the hwy attracts unsavory types but beggars have to stay off private property so they settle in along the busy roadway.

Some beggars don't bother asking for money, their signs request pot instead. More creative types sit with gas cans, beg for money to fuel non-existent cars. Some sit begging with kids to look more pitiful and the ACLU thinks this is just fine.

Our little town is somewhat economically depressed but needy people easily find assistance here. There is ample public housing, emergency housing/food vouchers for families who aren't yet residents is available if they'd only bother to ask. There is absolutely no good reason to sit in filth, beg or sell their/their kid's bodies for sex. Unfortunately some ruined their life, have criminal backgrounds and don't qualify for public housing.

I'm sure the ACLU will fix that too, force the department of social services to house felons in the same housing as low income families with children or they'll throw them in with the elderly to parasitically feed off them.

Supporting panhandlers only encourages them. They work it like a job. One woman has a place in town but walks down the hill everyday to beg near the truck stop. Apparently she relocates to her summer home in winter but returns every spring. She probably makes more money than I do yet I've never seen her give a receipt so I doubt she pays taxes. Wonder if the ACLU has addressed that? I might call the IRS, see what they have to say.

Choose your vacation destination wisely or you might be inundated by the local panhandling population, compliments of the ACLU. I love Durango but we won't be visiting there anytime soon and I certainly wouldn't send my children there for college...so sad.

Are we?

With a response like that it's going to be a rough ride before anyone can even try to address the issue. Perfectly good food goes to waste and now we're heartless scum for calling it what it is - Madness.

That's rich. Congrats for calling us back into line, I guess?

what right are you going on about. the man had legal tender which meant he could pay. this right to refuse service keeps getting thrown around but this so called right has been used for years as a tool for bigots till they were sued.

You seem to keep missing the part that businesses aren't allowed to just give food to the homeless due to public safety concerns. We agree, the food is wasted. However, the regulatory state doesn't care... They don't want an outbreak of salmonella or other food borne issues.

Create a law and regulatory environment that absolves restaurants of any liability when providing surplus food to the homeless and you'll see companies giving the food away.

Sounds like something that would happen in California. I worked construction, when I took the crew for lunch, often we looked like homeless men. If we were full of tar or working on sewers, we did not go in to eat, but when working hard in the heat, we did get drenched with sweat a lot.

Never got kicked out around here, half the people going into McDs look like homeless people in the summer, you don't put on good clothes to work on a roof or insulate an attic. You don't put on your best clothes to pave a road. These fast food joints love business around here, I would go straight from working construction to a classy restaurant to meat my wife for supper sometimes. I never had a problem, there were others doing the same thing in most restaurants.

I went with my business partner one day to look at a new car at a dealership, we were all bundled up in work clothes and the people had to leave to go to a funeral so we took off for the day. The salesman came out and blew us off, we looked like some bums. We went to the other dealership and looked at jeeps, I found one that the wife might like, twenty three grand out the door, loaded. They treated us well there, the next day the wife and I went there and bought it cash.

I took it to the other dealership and talked to the owner about his employees conduct. I am a businessman and I wanted to inform another business man of what I had seen. The owner was apologetic, but understood me buying elsewhere. He said he would have done the same thing. That guy was looking for a new job because of his attitude. Hopefully he learned a lesson from that event. I should mention that the owner and I both belonged to the Exchange club and so did my partner.

That's their problem, not mine. Idiots could have come up with a written agreement to sign (pactum de non petendo) before the Hippies dive their dumpster. It's a stupid strawman argument, actually.

Aye I agree, they should be able to waiver any legal responsibility if the food goes to the homeless or refugees or whoever it goes to just so we can let people eat for free , if they are poor , homeless or refugess or just plain hungry!
but they cant cry food poisoning , they take their own healthcare into their own hands
we should be able to decide what we can and cant put into our bodies

I think we can blame lawyers and their helping people sue for big money when they hurt themselves on other peoples property.

The real crime is feeding someone McDonalds.
How can anyone eat that landfill, let alone think they're doing someone a favour feeding it to them?
I guess the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't feed that crap to my worst enemy.

I think that guy did something good, however I also think he was trolling for attention, and maybe some easy money as well.

I don't think it's about blame. I mean... you could just try an UBI and give people the money to consume more, but in the end that would only relocate the production of waste.

This whole topic is interesting because it scratches on the thin varnish of civilisation, and offers a short glimpse on the cold bones beneath. With so much food going to waste it's a valid question to ask, why anyone should pay a thing at all. The sheer abundance is mesmerizing.

But I personally know of places where certain homeless people are not welcome.

Most everywhere, nowadays.

Everyone has been conditioned to the troll living under the bridge that will eat your kids. Its a story book tale.

Sometimes their lives were ruined for them, by war, bad parents or ignorance. Our country used to have state and local help that they no longer provide the money is generally wasted on other less needed things like over governing.

For instance, the waste of ridiculous requirements in some states for starting a business building a home or like many others stated the sharing of still good food.

The salvation army solicites for charitable purposes. It's not considered pan handling.
Like fire fighters in some towns asking moterists to fill the boot.

Two totally different organizations.

I'll leave it at that.
