Italy becomes the next European country to fall to a populist, anti-migrant wave, this one featuring

The wave is getting broader, as tired political agenda's are set in place.

Ex PM of the UK is trying to reverse Brexit as we speak, I think it's a slap in the face to those not at the Helm of this Beast. Anger is spreading from Country to Country on it, yet the true voice of Democracy has been drowned out by the few. It leaves one wondering, is there any actual solution to any of it?

Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's right-wing coalition was leading the Italian election late Sunday, exit polls indicated, but appeared unlikely to reach a majority in Parliament, suggesting weeks of drawn-out negotiations to find a broader coalition amid growing populist anger over migration and the weak economy.

Surging populist parties looked set to gain over half the votes, indicating that the anti-establishment rage sweeping Europe since the U.K. "Brexit" vote has found a new home in Italy. The 81-year-old Berlusconi cannot reclaim his office because of a 2013 tax evasion conviction, but has cast himself as kingmaker in the coalition, which includes the virulently anti-migrant party known as the League and the hard-right Brothers of Italy party, which traces its political heritage to Italy's World War II-era fascists

The Italians voted to do what civilized countries have done for centuries: Protect your borders, preserve your culture and put the welfare our your citizens as your primary goal.

There's a tendency for anything that challenges the status quo to be called "populist". The "populist" causes are varied and wide-ranging, but essentially boil down to a mistrust of the current bunch of politicians. In Italy's case, the country has been suffering from the EUs policy around immigration and the German-run Euro.

The opponents of change will try to paint the challengers to the old order as "right wing" and "racist", but they are not. The right-wing Brothers of Italy will take a tiny proportion of the vote, but get a massive amount of coverage that will distract attention from the achievement of then new parties coming into power.

Definitely, the range is vast, but at the same time there's a push taking place from those who have to live with bad decisions regarding the Countries well-being. There's so many far left liberal viewpoints now more than ever that raking through it all, and getting past the garbage thrown in being used to distract from the real issues, is taking a toll on everyone.

It's true that Everyone is different. And everyone is equal, so long their beliefs don't infringe on the rights of others, which appears to be happening on a daily basis now on levels that defy common sense. The problem is that people don't 'Celebrate' their differences anymore they attack them and try to force them onto the majority.

No, the EU are making sure that no one will be able to leave the EU once the UK go. The EU are not helping a smooth process with the UK and in some areas (like Ireland) are acting in a away that will encourage divisive politics. Countries already lashed to the EU by the German-led Euro will stand no chance.

Actually its "vive les differences" which means long live differences...

Cultural differences are some things that many people forget :

Regardless of where you live on this great, big Earth, chances are you will eventually interact in some way with a culture that is different from your own.

When most people think about culture, their first thoughts involve race or ethnicity.

Culture goes far beyond that, however. In fact, we are all members of various cultural groups and our cultural identities develop based on the influence of these memberships.

Like most things that make you who you are, the development of your cultural identity is an ongoing process.

As we are exposed to different sets of beliefs and values, we may adopt other cultural beliefs that were not part of our original makeup. In this way, culture is dynamic and complex.

That for me is what I call intergration ..... not this you will take X amount of

immigrants regardless of your current economic situation or ability to cope with

more people than can be coped with at the time.

Isn't that most of what causes friction between the resident people and newcomers?

Nothing to do with posting from France unfortunately. (First time this has ever happened to me here on ATS)

I have submitted the question to moderation staff.

A couple of things to point out.

Rabidly anti-fascist, anti-corporate, anti-corruption voters, turned out to vote for Brexit. No anti-fascists are voting for the proudly fascist elements in Italian society at the moment. People in general are, but people who have learned well the lessons of the past, are not.

Comparing Brexit to this matter is fraudulent and obscene.

"Fall to," or rise to?

Given the political climate that has precipitated these reactions, I'd be more inclined to say "rise to."

I think the general Public has the Obligation to rise 'to' it, kick it's ass and remove the idiots in charge.

In fact I like your quote. It's the truth.

Gold is the money of kings; silver is the money of gentlemen; barter is the money of peasants. But debt is the money of slaves. ~Norm Franz

I think the other elephant in the room is that the people that are brought in to enrich are not what you would call the best of the best.

Europe is quite happy to refuse Visa applications to trained professionals with a strong education and key worker role application yet they allow in people that obviously will not assimilate and are a burden to the system. I have been caught up in it first hand..

I would also point out one persons # hole is anothers paradise and that is the issue, you expect people that have a defined culture and standard that are being forced to accept what is seen as a archaic sub standard way of living.

The reason this is not blowing up way more than what we see is that the native population is silenced and or to polite to say anything..

Regarding Brexit in the OP, look back on the old 90s news reels about the UK not taking on the Euro, it is laughable what the scare mongering was like and it seems the same playbook is being used today when the UK wants to be independent of the bloc..
