"Self-identification" isn't a problem. People self-identify as all sorts of things all the time. Do you self-identify as conservative? Having read the article and looking at the comments the following can be stated:

It is an interesting defense that the person of interest is giving. And unfortunately, the results based on what has been written in the comments are equally dangerous and should be addressed.

In this instance, we can hope that all three psychiatrist can come to the same conclusion, and yes there will have to be 3 different psychiatrist’s that examine this person. One for the defense, one for the prosecution and one independent, and then the reports are given to the judge and looked at, examined and it will be determined if he is or is not as he states he is, that mentally deficient.

This is just the initial report, and as the trial has not started yet, speculations are really not good, and in short all we know that is the facts is that 3 young girls were sexually assaulted, and this is the person who is suspected. Beyond that there is no proof, no indication of, or anything really to say if he did or did not. And right now it is up to the lawyers, investigators, doctors, court, 12 good men and women, to determine if the man is or is not guilty.

Do not think I agree with the crime, I do not. I find it abhorrent and am disgusted by it.

But to link one group to the actions of one is equally wrong and sets up a dangerous precedent that could and often leads to far worse problems and crimes against those who are innocent. Back after 9/11 happened, and the country was inflamed against Muslims, those who were Sikh’s were often attacked and blamed for such, when there were innocent. And that was wrong. And also consider that after every mass shooting done by someone who is white, there is always a debate, yet the NRA and gun owners don’t and absolutely refuse to take ownership of the event, even though their fight over any regulation tends to try to prevent that.

Meaning that no one else must partake, nor should they be asked to. Otherwise we would call it "identifying".

Self identifying is a problem when it is used to get special treatment from the law and that is exactly what left wing self identification is all about and I think you know that but you just have to be the good team player that you always are - endlessly circling the wagon.

Sure people self identify as many things that are insignificant. And no it is not legal defense to committing a crime. So if a person molests a child they shouldn't be able to say they identify as a child and it's ok. Just like a parent who allows a child to mutilate themselves shouldn't use the child identifies as something else as a defense from what basically amounts to child abuse.

Picture this, what if my child self identifies as a whitetail buck and I get my taxidermy friend to drill some antlers on his head which ends up changing the way he looks and acts forever. Would I get charged with child abuse?

I'm not attacking adults who choose to do what they want with their bodies. I am attacking adults who abuse, sexually assault or harm children and use lame defenses like the guy in the OP to defend their actions. You did pick up that I was nicely saying parents that allow their children to change their sex should be charged for child abuse.

This is the logical end-game of identity politics and "the personal is political". What you feel you are will never supersede what you actually are.
