Twitter has become the nazi it is kicking off by removing peoples freedom of speech. Remember when the nazis where burning books. Removing accounts and information is no different.

This is not about freedom of speech it is about control.

Goto Gab peeps its better than twitter.

Just ignore the service of this one company. You *can* do that, you know? It is not something you have any right to look at, or partake in it or something. It is the choice of the company. just like Disney doesn't want to produce pron, Twitter is fed up with hate-speech.

And I like that.

Agreed, it's unbelievable seeing so many people here on ATS defending the rights of Nazis.

What is the right word for somebody who defends Nazis?

Wake up yourself!
Twitter controls NOTHING.
If one wants to write some neonazi-crap like "JEWS SUCKS!" that person would have to find another website to post that crap. There is no law (in the USA) against this.

If you don't like it that disney does not produce pron, you just go to another website. *bam* problem solved.

Yeah, but the nazis did not burn neo-nazi-books. There is a difference.
Until you understand that, learn about the books the nazis burned.

Just to be clear here..
No one is defending "the rights of Nazis", whatever that might be.
I certainly do not condone Nazi ideology.
We are defending free expression.
Any speech is better than silence.

I'm going to take a wild guess.... They burned the books that conflict with their ideology.

Are they banning Antifa? are they banning BLM? Are they banning Linda Sarsour?... If they are not banning left-wingers who are extremists and endorse violence and even terrorist groups like Sarsour has done, then this is a one sided witch hunt.

I don't like true white national socialists/Neo-Nazis...but the left through SPLC has labeled people like Judge Andrew Napolitano, and Ron Paul among others as "rightwing extremists" and even neo-nazis because they would dare point out the authoritarian moves done by former President Obama and his administration... the left is using these days the claim that they ban people "to fight neo-nazis and to fight fake news" but it is simply to get rid of any rightwing opinion or news that leans to the right.

i have to ask. how would everyone react if say your landline and cell service providers banned people from using their services based upon the exact same criteria that Twitter is talking about (especially over things not done on their service)? and if the same political bias was used that seems rather common on platforms like Twittter and Facebook? would that be just as acceptable to all those here backing this killing of freedom of speech? the reality is that platforms like twitter and Facebook should be considered just like telephone companies. they are just advanced versions of the same thing, ie a communications tool. as such they should be banned from removing or blocking anyone. people making threats or bullying? then send the information to the police, and the courts. in other words those who are supposed to deal with crime. and of course has to be done impartially regardless of political, religious, or other ideological leanings of those involved. something like "i hate Trump and his supporters", is exactly equal to "i hate Greeks". or "someone needs to harm Trump and his supporters", is again no different than "someone needs to harm all Greeks".

i do find it rather interesting that many supporting this violation of free speech use reasoning's like "they are a private company, they can do what they want. after all it is their business". now why do i strongly suspect that if we spent the time and effort, we would find many if not most of those supporting this, and using this type of argument in favour of it. would be the same ones saying that a "baker has to bake gay wedding cakes, regardless of their beliefs"? but that seems to be par for the course for liberal hypocrisy. seems to me that those private businesses like bakeries should have far more rights in choosing what they will make and who they will make things in support of, than a communications service deciding who gets to speak.

If Neo-Nazism and White Supremacy are such societal threats than why weren't they targeted and confronted when Obama was President?

The truth is that they aren't and haven't been an issue for many decades.

1st post and already obama?
wow

i figured it would happen just not so fast

i really dont know why twitter did not do this under obama.
why does it matter?

Because Liberal FAscism reigns in the ObamaWorld.

If this is the route they're going, then ANYONE on the spectrum, including AntiFA and BLM that advocate for the death of whites need to go down as well. Let's not forget people who target women, threatening rape and death because they spoke out about any topic at all. And if parents are not going to keep closer tabs on their kids when online, then something needs doing about the teens and pre-teens that target classmates online with threats as well.

If Twitter is not going to adopt a universal policy to protect people from abusive accounts, then it's clear this is a far more targeted agenda against those hate groups that have shown support for Trump, ie the Alt-Right and Neo-nazis.

I'm fine with people being able to speak out about unpopular topics. If their words are affecting people, then those people were already straddling the fence and it was only a matter of time before anything at all nudged them to one side or the other. It's when these unpopular people begin to target individuals with threats and personal attacks that it's crossed a line.

Targeting people who espouse nasty views off-Twitter is not surprising at all. We already have employers who require you divulge your social media accounts or you won't be hired. You can already be fired from your job for posting unpopular views online. This is just more of that mentality in action.

The problem with saying that entities like Google, Twitter and YouTube are private companies that have the right to do what they want, is that they are essentially monopolies that control the entire internet.

There are no alternatives to Google, Twitter and YouTube. Any real competition is immediately bought out and shut down or co-opted by Alphabet and it's subsidiaries. What you're seeing is the pathway to digital tyranny.

They are private companies whom you pay for service.

Not saying I agree with it or not. We either treat all companies equally or we don't do anything at all.

Monopolies aren't any random company. They're anti competitive. While Net Neutrality is preferable, it's not necessary to enforce it through the rule of law as long as competition for ISP's exists. We don't currently have competition though.

Yes we do. ISP's raced to compete with Google Fiber.
