Nehls told the Houston Chronicle that he had received calls, texts and emails in recent days from people who took offense at the language in bold, white lettering: "F--- TRUMP AND F--- YOU FOR VOTING FOR HIM." The sheriff, a Republican who is weighing a bid for Congress shared a photo on his official Facebook page in hopes that it would help to identify the truck owner. The license plate is not visible in the image.

True, she's an idiot. But this is the problem I have here. This entire thing has the APPEARANCE of political persecution. You'd have to prove that in a court of law, I suppose. But I, as a person who voted for Trump can see that, you can bet any case brought against her for the sticker will probably make its way up the chain.

Isn't the sheriff engaging in this? Giving an ultimatum and threatening a citizen exercising her free speech?

That's all I need. That's violating someone's rights. If the prosecutor engages in this kind of political persecution he/she should be disbarred.

"The sheriff, a Republican who is weighing a bid for Congress "

Yep, just what we need in politics.

A sheriff in Texas is looking for a truck bearing a profanity-laced anti-Trump sticker and said authorities are considering charging its owner with disorderly conduct — a threat that immediately raised alarm among free speech advocates.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy E. Nehls posted a photo of the truck Wednesday on Facebook after, he said, he’d received several complaints about the display from unhappy people in the Houston-area county.

A graphic on the rear window of the GMC Sierra reads: “F‑‑K TRUMP AND F‑‑K YOU FOR VOTING FOR HIM.” (The profanity is spelled out on the sticker.)

“If you know who owns this truck or it is yours, I would like to discuss it with you,” the sheriff wrote. “Our Prosecutor has informed us she would accept Disorderly Conduct charges regarding it, but I feel we could come to an agreement regarding a modification.”

The Houston Chronicle said the truck’s owners have no plans to remove the custom graphic, which they ordered after Trump’s election.

“It’s not to cause hate or animosity,” Karen Fonseca told the Chronicle. “It’s just our freedom of speech and we’re exercising it.”

Seems the idea of charging the owner with disorderly conduct has been drop. The Sheriff sounded as if Trump topic stickers have been a source of road rage.

In a twist, the woman who often drives the truck worked Nehls in the county jail at one time.

I'm sure "what about the children" will come up. (most already learned that in the school yard or at home I imagine)

This is exactly like the removal of statues topic. Stupid. It was stupid to take down those statues and it is stupid to try to stop people from trying to express themselves.

Say it ain’t so...

I have to add, if you are told to “F yourself” because of who you voted for, and you cannot control your anger and succumb to “fighting words”...
You’re probably a danger to society.

Mentally that is.

Saying F@#k you for voting for Trump are in fact fighting words. If someone walked up to you and said "f you for ...." you would not consider that confrontational? I think you would

Two different issues and contexts.

In this instance, no one is getting in anyone's face and saying "f you for voting for him." That's why Chaplinsky isn't valid here and what Cohen later clarified in regards to the public display of profanity (F*ck).

The display in question is not considered "fighting words" because of the way the words are expressed.

Some don't seem to have a problem with that.

They wanna slice up words and preach about how good they are at it in a court of law, and simply ignore the obvious appearance of political persecution going on here.

It's an extension of the bumper stickers you see on vehicles here. Mostly anti Hillary, all the flavors.

I would expect vandalism of the truck at some time. Seems like a risky way to make a point.

Distasteful? Sure. But I've seen plenty of obama stickers of the same ilk.

Meh. No big deal really.

I agree with that. Seems like a waste but I suppose it's someone's way of venting.

Personally, I wouldn't find it offensive, no matter who's name was after the F word. But I personally think people shouldn't put that word on their vehicle, out of respect for others, so I would think "hey, that is obviously a person I would avoid". And be thankful they made it so obvious.

I get more offended when my neighbor writes "I (Heart) MSU" on my dirty back window. Jerk. LOL

No more offensive to me than Calvin pissing, truck nuts, "If you can read this, the bitch fell off" biker shirts, or suggestive bumper stickers. Hell, earlier today, my husband and I were behind one with "Your horn blows, but does the driver?" and "My other ride is your wife".

Seriously. Battles this stupid need to be picked better.

The woman having a warrant out is interesting.

Reminds me of people with drugs. If you want to stay low, don't have burned out lights, missing tags, etc on your vehicle.

Them Okie "laws" were written, when "women and children" were to be respected by "men". We don't need them "laws" anymore. Because "women" are equal, and "children" are equal to women and men, and the "government" is all our caregiver/parent. ...and ...and, "respect"! Words hurt! Oklahoma sounds like it needs some "social engineering" to "change step" it with the times.
Honestly? It would be sad for Oklahoma to take that off the "books". Back then,.. women were women, and men, were men.
Nowadays? We cater to the oddballs that don't know which toilets to use....sad times.

Depends if you're right or not. If one is right? (This Sheriff is right). I can see how a mentally ill person would view a sane person's "view", as a "danger" for a "special"..."Society". That word/s "society", "civilized",
"Culture", sure gets thrown around a lot by the left.

They can ticket him for obscenity, people honestly have no idea what freedom of speech covers. It does not cover hate speech, incitement to violence. You can absolutely be ticketed for displaying obscenity. I believe "F#@k you for voting for Trump" is both obscene and "fighting words". People really need to educate themselves.

Cops can ticket you for anything they want. That doesn't mean it's above a challenge in court. If you're on a road, they can ticket you for something that's not even illegal. It's up to you to argue it in court afterwards where you could almost certainly get it thrown out on first amendment grounds.

Everyone has guns in Texas, don't they? I'd never drive around the Lonestar state with anything that controversial showing on my vehicle.. or clothing.
