A sheriff in Texas is looking for a truck bearing a profanity-laced anti-Trump sticker and said authorities are considering charging its owner with disorderly conduct — a threat that immediately raised alarm among free speech advocates.

Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy E. Nehls posted a photo of the truck Wednesday on Facebook after, he said, he’d received several complaints about the display from unhappy people in the Houston-area county.

A graphic on the rear window of the GMC Sierra reads: “F‑‑K TRUMP AND F‑‑K YOU FOR VOTING FOR HIM.” (The profanity is spelled out on the sticker.)

“If you know who owns this truck or it is yours, I would like to discuss it with you,” the sheriff wrote. “Our Prosecutor has informed us she would accept Disorderly Conduct charges regarding it, but I feel we could come to an agreement regarding a modification.”

The Houston Chronicle said the truck’s owners have no plans to remove the custom graphic, which they ordered after Trump’s election.

“It’s not to cause hate or animosity,” Karen Fonseca told the Chronicle. “It’s just our freedom of speech and we’re exercising it.”

Seems the idea of charging the owner with disorderly conduct has been drop. The Sheriff sounded as if Trump topic stickers have been a source of road rage.

In a twist, the woman who often drives the truck worked Nehls in the county jail at one time.

I'm sure "what about the children" will come up. (most already learned that in the school yard or at home I imagine)

I thought the Houston area was liberal. Seems like the authorities aren't.

Last vote wise. The surrounding area (greater Houston) has plenty of Reps and conservative types.

edit:

Actually Harris and Fort Bend counties did go Dem for Pres. But the majority isn't huge.

Authorities, less liberal.

Whoever owns the truck should be embarrassed.
Not for their message, just how they are delivering it.
Actually.... yeah, for the message too.

It's all to typical these days for people to say F---You to anyone who doesn't think like they do, instead of living together in peace, despite differences in political (or any other) opinion.

In all fairness, I would’ve had that sticker on my car, except with Hillary’s name and referencing her voters if she had won.

In Oklahoma it is a crime to use profanity in the presence of woman or children. I am not sure how displaying such text would be viewed.

It also illegal to gallop a horse at night with intent to disturb. LOL

Let them be embarrassed. Nothing says free speech has to be eloquent.

They've never (or at least, not in recent times) enforced that law, because no prosecutor has believed it would withstand a first amendment challenge.

The law itself is here
law.justia.com...

It appears to refer to spoken language, so it wouldn't even be relevant as a bumper sticker is written.

then when truck nuts came out, they included them,

Profanity aside...cos I know people with kids really dislike seeing or hearing that kind of thing, my only problem with the sticker is the " f you too" bit.

Having a go at politicians is fair enough, but this insidious hatred for people who don't vote how YOU want them to is disgusting and, dare I say it, Fascist in it's nature.

Constitutionally protected speech/expression.

Pretty sure Cohen v. California would apply to this.
