One theory I have seen is Mueller intentionally hired Democrats / clinton loyalists so when the investigation clears all parties neither side can bitch about the results.

Grand Jury means Mueller is sure that the outcome will be indictments. At this point, they can call anyone related to the case they are building, subpoena any documents (including tax returns, as if they don't already have the ones they need), and get everything on the record. If lies are told at this point, and later proved, then the liars go to jail, no questions asked.

For everyone who wanted the investigation to move forward, well this is the next step. It will still take time - I was on a grand jury that was extended from 6 months to a year on some petty, low-rent gambling ring in Layfaette, Indiana. This is much bigger, and if history is any judge, will turn out to be the biggest political scandal in the history of the US.

Remember these days. You will tell your grandchildren about what happened.

DEAD stories don't get grand juries...

From WSJ:

“This is yet a further sign that there is a long-term, large-scale series of prosecutions being contemplated and being pursued by the special counsel,” said Stephen I. Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas. “If there was already a grand jury in Alexandria looking at Flynn, there would be no need to reinvent the wheel for the same guy. This suggests that the investigation is bigger and wider than Flynn, perhaps substantially so.”

AND:

“This doesn’t mean he is going to bring charges,” Mr. Zeno cautioned. “But it shows he is very serious. He wouldn’t do this if it were winding down.”

Extra help ABOARD:

“People like Greg Andres don’t leave private practice willy-nilly,” Mr. Zeno said. “The fact he is being added after couple of months shows how serious this is and that it could last a long time.”

Apparently...the grand jury has been GOING ON for weeks already...

BUT...ya know...it's JUST a nothing burger TOPPED with a grand jury and a SIDE of 16 prosecutors....

I would argue hes done nothing but act like he has something to worry about.

He fired Comey " cause Russia"

He blasted Sessions for recusing himself "cause Russia"

He edited his son's lie on the Russian meeting in June " cause Russia"

Flynn got swept away "cause Russia"

Oh and the entire WH called this a fake story..... So fake that we now have a grand jury.

The issue with Comeys firing is their was nothing illegal nor improper about it, contrary to the talking heads on tv.

OH, is that so?

I will wait to see what the grand jury has to say. I prefer my justice done to the U.S Standards, not the wishes of partisans.

Comey will play a part - remember this is not only about Russian hacking (which will be big, considering that four IC Branches have come out and confirmed it), but also about obstruction of justice. It looks like this is the "theory of the case" as far as Trump's involvement is concerned.

For now.

I guess we will have to wait for the Grand Jury to indict, and for the report to congress and the senate to knw for sure.

Well it is literally.....

Grand Jury for Russia probe...

So yea... Definitely Russia.

Haven't seen anything official stating that as of yet....as a special counsel he can follow whatever lead he wants once he's begun.

Facts are that he has a heavy hitting financial lineup of a lot of former Clinton "associates"....

The Russia probe isn't about finances...at least according to the narrative, which changes weekly.

Vasa, I love ya... But cmon. This is most assuredly about Russia. He isnt doing some secret back handed investigation into Clinton, like a lot of Trumpers were hoping for. Its Russia. Does it lead to anything? Dont know yet. But again... c'mon. WE're well past what the topic is at this point

The issue with Comeys firing is their was nothing illegal nor improper about it, contrary to the talking heads on tv. The head of the FBI serves at the pleasure of the President and Comey was not directly involved in the investigation. His removal place McCabe in charge.

I'm not entirely convinced of that. If it can be found that Trump fired Comey with the intent of affecting the FBI investigation, in any manner, he may be in hot water for it.

I'm not sure, but think it is a possibility.

It also allows Mueller to start issuing subpoenas for documents etc and allows him to depose witnesses under oath. Grand jurys are an investigative tool extension.

True. They also hand-down indictments.

Yup, it is so. Even more so since it was confirmed Trump was not the target of the investigation per Comey and the intelligence committee.

If the city manager fire the police chief, he is not obstructing any ongoing investigations being run by the department. Comey oversaw day to day operations and was not involved in field investigations.
