Special Counsel Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury in Washington to investigate Russia’s interference in the 2016 elections, a sign that his inquiry is growing in intensity and entering a new phase, according to people familiar with the matter.

The grand jury, which began its work in recent weeks, is a sign that Mr. Mueller’s inquiry is ramping up and that it will likely continue for months. Mr. Mueller is investigating Russia’s efforts to influence the 2016 election and whether President Donald Trump’s campaign or associates colluded with the Kremlin as part of that effort.

A spokesman for Mr. Mueller, Joshua Stueve, declined to comment. Moscow has denied seeking to influence the election, and Mr. Trump has vigorously disputed allegations of collusion. The president has called Mr. Mueller’s inquiry a “witch hunt.”

Looking forward to this...nobody knows what he is actually doing at this point...but since it's Mueller it is going to get a Russia headline for sure.....

Yet not surprising... They are bound and determined to get rid of Trump. Since grand jury proceedings are secret we once again have another leak.

Thomas Zeno, a federal prosecutor for 29 years before becoming a lawyer at the Squire Patton Boggs law firm, said the grand jury is “confirmation that this is a very vigorous investigation going on.”

“This doesn’t mean he is going to bring charges,” Mr. Zeno cautioned. “But it shows he is very serious. He wouldn’t do this if it were winding down.”

Ty Cobb, special counsel to the president, said he wasn’t aware that Mr. Mueller had started using a new grand jury. “Grand jury matters are typically secret,” Mr. Cobb said. “The White House favors anything that accelerates the conclusion of his work fairly.…The White House is committed to fully cooperating with Mr. Mueller.”

Actually, I'm not entirely convinced that Trump will be directly part of any of this, unless they can find wrongdoing in Comey's firing. In that case, that's on Trump and cannot blame anyone but him.

Anyway, if true, this is a very interesting development. This is where indictments start coming if the evidence to do so is present.

Of course special counsel would say that. If you act surprised or scared, you seem weak. Trump does not hire weak, Ill give him that.

That surprised me as well.

Another interesting addition to this story....Greg Andres was the last attorney to sign on recently....well....his wife is Judge Ronnie Abrams who happened to have to recuse herself from cases against Trump because of Andres joining the team.

Would seem an odd move for him to do so, if in fact they were trying to pin whatever on Trump....she was judge on a case in 2016 that was dropped and recently recused herself from a 2017 case apparently.

The issue with Comeys firing is their was nothing illegal nor improper about it, contrary to the talking heads on tv. The head of the FBI serves at the pleasure of the President and Comey was not directly involved in the investigation. His removal place McCabe in charge.

It also allows Mueller to start issuing subpoenas for documents etc and allows him to depose witnesses under oath. Grand jurys are an investigative tool extension.

Nothing has stuck so far....why would he care now? If you've done nothing wrong there's nothing to worry about.
