Trump Admits he Punked his Supporters on Mexico Paying for the Wall

The Washington Post has obtained transcripts of the phone calls between the President and leaders of Mexico and Australia, the transcripts are said to confirm his call with the Australian President didn't go well and show Trump used the prospect of building a wall and Mexico paying for it as a political tool to rally the faithful.

At one point in his call with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Trump even acknowledges that the wall is “the least important thing we are talking about, but politically this might be the most important.”

Trump spent much of his call with Pena Nieto just trying to convince him to stop talking about how Mexico would not pay for the wall. Trump even suggested he would fudge it in the end so that both sides could claim they didn't give in.
“We should both say, ‘We will work it out.’ It will work out in the formula somehow,” Trump said. “As opposed to you saying, ‘We will not pay,’ and me saying, ‘We will not pay.’ ”

Pena Nieto said Trump's promise had put a “very big mark on our back” and “is an issue related to the dignity of Mexico and goes to the national pride of my country.” Trump's response to all of that was basically: Okay, well let's just stop talking about it publicly.

Haven't you caught on yet? The ends justify the means. We will make up Russian interference to remove a president and we will blow smoke up Mexico's arse to get them to cooperate. Maybe the wall gets built, maybe not, who knows? One thing is for sure though, illegal immigration will go down.

The entire wall costs about 20 billion, a drop in the bucket compared to the annual budget. It's not even like 0.001% of the annual budget. Mexico will pay nothing, and the wall will stop Mexicans coming in.

I gave up trying to weed out the lies and just let both parties celebrate their comfirmation bias.

It's all about the context. Basically, Enrique could keep hard-lining to the media and Trump would just impose tariffs on imported products from Mexico, build the wall and allow it to work itself out. The other option was to keep it vague with the media and he would allow Jared and Luis to continue a different route of negotiations beneficial for both the U.S. and Mexico since they are neighbors afterall.

Well a moat would be better with spikes of one side. Would be cheaper and creat a new eco system. Would also be better cause now Mexico cartels build tunnel systems. So no a wall would not keep them out. They would have one easy system to over come a 20bil project. Obtain the blue prints in some fashion and just dig to the depth needed.... Methinks the plans changed somewhat, probably even before any phone calls, and then they changed again, and then they changed again. Last time I heard, it's now going to be a picket fence, with Magnolias intertwined, so it will be built.. but on the condition that Trump doesn't go anywhere near the construction, while all you folk stateside, will be footing the bill...taxes up Lessy my friend..just like BREXITwill be over here.
