I think you are dead on in your assessment of the US being a teenager. By the same measure, my country is in it's teens as well. I think the difference is that we did not have a revolution, but a peaceful transition, so we are not so 'against' any and all things European. We do not have the same associations with European ways as America does.

And at the risk of sounding patronizing, which I assure all is not my attention, I will say this about Americans:

Americans are just so darn cute. You get all excited about things, and run around going look at me, look at me. You get that bright-eyed enthusiasm when you are all working together for a common goal. Everything is so dramatic, and the end of civilization as we know it. When I'm in a good mood, I just want to pinch your cheeks, go 'oh, aren't you just the cutest little thing', swat you on the butt, and send you out to play. And you have some neat accents.

My biggest pet peeve about Americans: The correct response to 'Thank you' is 'You're welcome'. Not 'uh-huh'. I realize not all do this, but it just drives me nuts.

right now America is like the worst,clique-ridden,high school you can think of. that's all i have to say right now.

I suppose that's one way of looking at it. Continuing with the analogy, I would say maybe they could be closer to that older aunt/uncle who really knows how to party when the occasion arises, and will buy you beer when your parents are out of town.

My biggest problems with the States is the arrogant disregard of anyone who is not American, the enormous disconnect between reality and the media coverage in the States and the inability to objectively look at facts (ie: everything in the States is 'spun'). In other words, you seem to have been overrun with navel-gazers.

My cousin just got back from a holiday in USA and said she found the people friendly and helpful. Pretty much like the Americans on this board.

Calling all Americans "leeches" is not really justified. Undoubtedly there will be a few bad apples, but this is the same in all countries.

I don't think many of us non-Americans hate your administration, but I do believe many are concerned with the direction Mr Bush is leading it

how many years of history does usa have?
200 years since the declaration of independance?
200 years against 2000 years of history in europe?
or 4000 years of history in middle east and china?
so how does that compare, you tell me.

I didn't know your family came from Canada! Which of our wars and genocides did you learn of? The war of 1812? WW1? WW2? Korea? Well truth be told most Americans I have met were perfectly charming and likeable people. I really think that the negativity revolves around our perceptions of the ideal type american who man of us see to be arrogant and coarse. I have never met any american like this but I know they exist because I see so many arrogant and coarse peoiple herein Australia that I am certain that these types must be quite common.
