Hey, Hey, Hey, there is no need to be calling out a nation about it's beer, especially a fine brew like Molson, although I prefer Labatts or Sleemans (sp). Spoken by an American who lives South of Canada! Go figure that out.

Now there's someone from south/49th with impeccable taste. If ever you need to escape the draft (army, not beer), buddy, my couch is available for u. Stop by duty free on your way up.

C'est pourquoi nous devons parler seulement de l'invasion en francais. S'ils decouvrent, ils blameront la France.

Translation for my American friends, as I have always considered it rude to speak a foreign language in front of others who do not, and am feeling kind of badly for doing it:

That's why we must only speak of the invasion in French. When they find out, they will blame France.

While normally announcing your plans for world domination defeats the whole 'secret' aspect of the plan, I'm not really worried about it. I've lived next to you for over 30 years, and I know you will forget about us in a matter of days. You are easily distracted by bright, shiny objects.

Why not...France gets blamed for everything else, so why not this too!

True...its not nice to speak in another language...but its such a beautiful language...I wanna share it with my friends here on ATS. Why don't we start a thread where we teach something new en francais everyday. One in Spanish would be awesome too!

I'll start - bonne nuit les amis, dormez bien et a demain ! Oh la la ...c'est deja demain !

Translation: Good night friends. Sleep well and see you tomorrow. Oh, oh, its already tomorrow!

Ne laisses pas les insectes de lit mordent

Translation: Don't let the bed bugs bite.

It just sounds so pretty en francais.

edit for improper conjugation, and I still think it's not quite right.

You want to talk about whos the biotch? Just look at your hockey team that will tell you! How bout we close our border and see what happens to those on top then eh?

First, I applaud you for taking the time to translate my joke. And that is exactly what it was, a joke.

Canada doesn't have it's own chienne at this time, and probably never will.

Go ahead, close the border. Don't take the oil and energy, go set up some new deals so you can depend even more heavily on unstable Middle-Eastern and Venezuelan sources. There are lots of other countries who want what we've got.

edited to add applause for the skillful and proper use of 'eh' by a non-Canadian. It shows cultural awareness.

Im from america and this is what i think. Our people are just the same as any other nations. Some bad some good, some smart some dumb. MAybe just me but it seems lots of people dont hate American people as much as they hate out Administration, which i could understand, MAybe if we get a good president. Devilswasp, your just being mean in earlier posts. I mean i could easily call scottish, sheep herding retarded alcholics, that wear dresses, and id be accused of being a ignorant american, not that i feel that way about scotts. Thats my opinion of the issue granted im in 7th grade.

What you call a joke I take as an insult. And if we were on the street I'd punch you in the face over something you said was "a joke" and you wouldn't be laughing. By the way we have the largest reserves of oil in the world due to OPEC not, oh Canada. The largest local output comes from Mexico and Alaska. Now that the Bush administration has stolen Iraqi oil reserves, the 'unstable middle east sources,' shall draw to a close.

There are other countries who want what you've got? Shall we talk about your automobile industry? Maybe we should remove our big three manufacturing plants and all the tier 2 manufacturers and put pressure on Japan to do so as well. You enjoy an excessive amount of laziness on the part of the U.S. industry and to argue that fact is foolish. So don't bite the hand that feeds you. I don't recall any Americans speaking lewdly of Canadians in this post try to show some maturity.

No, I wouldn't be laughing, I would have you charged with assault.

It is good to know that you are one of those 'real men' who believe in hitting women. I certainly hope you are currently single.

Please reread the title of this thread, and take your own advice.

Since you're a woman I wouldn't punch you I'd just tell you to shut your mouth and make dang sure everyone heard to embarass you.

Why the fighting?
I thought this was to find out what people thought of america?
Not a place to slag each other off or question each others gender, sexual habits or any other part of thier life.
Why cant we just keep this topic nice?

i think it's a valid question. what do people from other countries think of america? are they as disgusted with the state of affairs as i am? i know my german relatives are, seeing as though they keep on writing to me that they would so much love it if i would decide to relocate to europe. so what do you guys think? are we becoming another rome? destined to fall? to big for our britches?

If someone wants to make insulting comments about America as a whole I will answer. I'm not going to sit back when someone makes a lewd, immature comment on our behalf - a direct insult and to brush it off as a joke. You want to make those kind of comments expect correction for it.

But people make comments about my country and everyone elses country all the time, as we said its a place to learn what they think.
If you are not happy about it tell them or start another thread.

no one is asking for insults or stereotypes. the question pertained to what is going on in the US today. what do the citizens of older countries think of the path america is on? i think older civilizations have valid points that should be heard. no one asked for comments about "yanks." why are people getting up in arms about this thread?

vincere7,

My intention was not to insult you, I was merely practicing my poor french. I made a quip based on the geographical size and relative positions of our two countries.

You know, if you had just stated that I had offended you, instead of attacking me and saying I should be puched in the face, I probably would have offered you an apology for the offense.

Please consider how your reaction might have reflected on Americans in a thread specifically designed for non-Americans to share our view of your country.

It was meant to be a joke, and to all my American friends, with the notable exception of vincere7, I apologize if any offense was taken.

I believe this might have been the perfect situation for a u2u. Again, had you contacted me and stated that my comment offended you, you would have received an apology.

Unfortunately, chances of that are slim to none now, emphasis on the none side.

no offense taken. i too think the US is on a path to falling...just like rome and just like germany(ah my home country)...i do have some scot in me too!!! i think the opinions of people of other countries are valid! i really do! america is young, very very young. and instead of studying the history of other great empires, our leaders go full force into their beliefs, trying to push democracy and religion on other countries. so will we fall, like rome did? like germany did? or like the huns or vlad's romania, gengis kahn,or the great nation of england? are we pushing too far as these other great nations with more history than we have did? i wonder and as a lover of history and an avid studier of history...i think so. we are young, like a teenager now. our leaders believe america is the greatest,hey...we know all. but really we don't. we should listen to europe, asia, africa. our leaders should study the roman empire, the egyptian dynasties, the great wars of eastern europe. maybe they would learn something. i can't wait to move to europe!(although i do respect and love america!) the history buff in me makes me long to see the scenery of scotland...the green of ireland, the alps, and the eerimess of the carpathians. i think american leaders should be more open to the opinions of europe's and other countries leaders and i think they should be required to do in-depth studies of past great democracies. i feel as if the rest of the world hates america...as i,an adult, hate teenagers with their small view of the world. it has been proven that history repeats itself. as many intelligent scholars that exist in the US...you'd think we would have learned, but it seems as if we haven't and that makes me ashamed. i feel like our forefathers(washington, jefferson, franklin) are ashamed as well. although i respect this country because most of our ancestors came here for religious freedom(exception:slaves) i am depressed because i think the US is destined for a fall...as rome and the UK had. OK enough of my rant!!!! hope ya'll don't think i'm CRAZY!!!!!!!!
