A shot to lower cholesterol inplace of taking the statins. The injection is supposed to boost the bodies ability to remove cholesterol.

The once-a-year jab, now being tested in clinical trials, would end the need to take daily statin pills for millions of patients.
It works by boosting the body’s ability to remove cholesterol from the blood, cutting levels by as much as a third in high-risk adults.

The treatment could be on the market as soon as 2023 at a cost of between £625 and £1,200 a time, say researchers.

Cholesterol causes heart attacks....That fact is now being hotly debated. People have heart attacks that have normal and low cholesterol. I would NOT take statins or this new injection. But in lab mice it works-even reduces blood vessel damage.

Cholesterol contributes to the stiffening and narrowing of arteries, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Oh side effect of increased risk of developing diabetes.

But side-effects include an increased risk of developing diabetes.

Doctors/scientists need to stop trying to circumvent nature and look more at what our average diet is.

We are what we eat, and much can be linked to what we ingest. Everything from chronic diseases to mental health is affected by what we eat.

The FDA is to blame for a lot of it, allowing so many chemicals in our food to where it is no longer food is killing everyone.

A shot to lower cholesterol, and increase profits for big pharma. Versus fixing and teaching people to eat healthier and better. Which makes more sense to you all?

There is profit on both sides, however, one is less likely to kill you than the other. Will be amusing to see the side-effects of this new "vaccine".

When I go to restaurants, it looks like women are ordering healthier than the men. Maybe there are other differences between the makeup of men/women beyond male/female.

Wheat is bad.

Green stuff is good.

White stuff is bad.

Meat is good.

Sugar is bad.

I start there.

Yeah.. I noticed some of those 5 minute cholesterol-lowering medication commercials showing people smiling lovingly at their spouse...while barbequing pork on the grill.

Wow.. that's a good rule of thumb that's easy to remember!

I've been cutting back on the bad foods and working out almost daily for a few years now.

Doctor is pleased with that, but now says that Smoking will be my ultimate killer.

She's right, but something will get all of us eventually!

There is alot for research that is s-l-o-w-e-l-y coming out that it is carbs that are bad. In fact if some one is to look at triglycerides, meat has very very little to do with raising them, or your cholesterol numbers, it is all carbs.

What to loose weight-lower cholesterol. Meat-broccoli-meat cauliflower-meat green beans..........

Pasta=sugar
Bread=sugar
Potato =sugar
Coke=sugar (obvious)

And this is easily verifiable using a cheap blood glucose finger pricker.

This is why diabetes is now becoming so prevalent, out cash crop food pyramid. It's a set up and lie, look at where the farm subsidies go.

Keep at it. Eating is such an obvious way we can try to keep healthy.

Don't forget to allow a bowl of ice cream or what ever your favorite is one in a while.

And I lost both my parents to lung cancer-both smoked for 40+ years. Keep getting away from that too, you can do it.

Yup, and better off eating the pork with some veggies, and forget the meds.

Yum.. bbq pork sounds tasty right about now.

Everything we've been told about diet and such has been wrong for decades.

Aluminum is horrible to drink out of, but what are all those addictive energy drinks served in? CANS.. Michael J. Foxx was a perfect example of what aluminum will do to you.

Cut out fat, cut out salt, cut out red meat, use margarine, use processed oils, eat more fake foods.

All that is dead-flat-out wrong.

And women and men do have different food requirements, as well as exercise requirements.

Cardio is bad for men's testosterone levels. Cardio lowers testosterone for up to 48 hours after you are done.

All the diets are mostly geared for women, and things like soy and such are full of estrogen.

The over-all dynamic almost seems to be geared at making things pretty baseline and lowering masculinity to a more metro-gendered society.

Oops.. /quietly steps off his soapbox.

I would gladly take a shot once a year instead of having to remember to take a pill every night.

And for whomever mentioned diet as cause of high cholesterol it is true that diet can be a factor but in many cases it is inherited genetics that determine the way a body accumulates and eliminates "bad" cholesterol.

Also I suspect that one of the many reasons women are having more heart attacks in recent years is because of the hormones used on animals to make them "meatier" and to produce more milk and eggs. In women too many hormones (or lack of) can cause many medical issues with heart attack and stroke topping the list of risks.

I hear ya about the smoking. If I get the point where the 4 mile daily run/walk on the treadmill becomes difficult, I'll attempt to cut back on my 10 cigs a day habit. After 43 years of smoking, I still enjoy it, LOL.

All the fake hydrogenated oils are an irritant leading to internal inflammation which makes cholesterol stick to arteries.

Margarine should be outlawed as well as oils such as canola.

Stick with animal fats and butter.

Meat, greens, dairy and some extra vitamins like "C" will keep ya healty.

But what about the statins? There is little proof they do in fact reduce risks of heat attacks. Could it be because heart attacks are not caused by high cholesterol?

People have low mid and high cholesterol all have artery damage.

It is sugar, bad oils, and carbs (sugar). Sugar spikes your insulin, and that leads to all sorts of bad things.

I suspect one major contributor is the prolonged usage of synthetic hormones for every 'womens issue'.

Preventing pregnancy? Hormonal birth control is the answer.

Rough monthly cycles? Hormones are the answer.

Acne? Hormones + antibiotics for that.

Pms? Endometriosis? Approaching menopause? Hormones are the answer.

Everything in moderation is one of the keys. Natural grains, just like vegetables, fruits, and protein work in concert.

It is how we have modified things, and how we have created preservatives to keep things longer that have done a lot of harm.

Tho same chemical preservatives that keep food from going bad also inhibit the digestion in our intestines. Especially considering it is the bacteria in our intestines that breaks down the food we eat.

A meal from scratch or a natural meal that is made fresh will give you more energy than something your body has a hard time breaking down.
