I would love to debate you on this topic of rap, and the media.

Jedi,

Is 'rap and media' the only cause for the supposed decaying of America?! Is not racism, bigotry, hatred, lack of understanding, etc., also in this equation? You guys got to be kidding me to sit in here and tell that line of total bullsh!t that its 'rap and media'.

Leveller, as well as a few others, have been trying to indicate to you and others that the root problem here is MAN.....you, me, 'it', 'they', MANKIND! It all stems from us......corruption is a 'tool' used by man to place blame for 'everything going to sh!t' on someone or something. This is not a perfect definition of 'corruption' but it serves to illustrate the point that cause and effect is like a beginning and a end.......it starts with us (ie:Man) and it goes full circle and ends with us (ie:Man).

I recall a time when parents said the exact same thing about rock and roll.

Today, most kid's parents listen to rock and roll... so there is no way the kids can rebel using hard rock... AH! But the parents that like rock, hate rap! Epiphany! So, kids use rap to rebel.

Teenagers must rebel... it's in the blood... it's called hormones. Making a big deal about it only makes it worse. Let it happen, don't overreact, and they'll be fine.

Here's a scary thought... when today's kids are parents, and their kids are looking for a music to rebel with... what will it be?

The comment about rap and "ni--er" music was unfounded and should be taken back. Rap (pure rap) is a genuine American Art form... I experienced it's rise, and had the opportunity to meet the Sugar Hill Gang. Just as there is crap rock, there is crap rap. It's not the entire genre, just artists that leave a lot to be desired.

I'd say I half agree with seekerof, in that it is our fault.........but todays mass media is certainely one of our deadliest self-harming tools...........because this, along with bad parenting, is what plants and grows the racism and prejudice etc.

basically, if everyone was to wake up and realise what they're doing to the world, and regret it, we'dd all be happy, but that ain't gonna happen.....generations of bad parenting and badmedia and bad whatever else have already turned most of the population braindead.

But I wouldn't say Rap music is the main culprit. If anything, the entire pop genre is a brain rotter......I'm talking about the music we see 9am and hear on the morning radio by people like Britney Spears, et al.

Sorry... you are wrong.

We are causing the destruction of America.

"The media" only responds to what sells. We have allowed generations to emerge that have lost the ability of discernment. Most of us no longer have the ability to judge what is quality art.

There is channel changer on your TV, but precious few of us changed the channel when Dukes of Hazard reigned chaos on the frontal lobe.

There are other records at the record store, but precious few of us did not buy disco.

There are other newspapers, but many of us buy U.S.A. Today.

Because we have nearly an entire population unable to fathom high art, we are in a downward spiral of lowest common denominator demographic-satisfying entertainment pabulum.

Consider this... many of Mozart's operas were performed for "the masses" or the common folk of the day. And today, we revere his work as high art.

There is no one to blame but ourselves... but we've never been good at accepting blame... we prefer to point fingers and find solace in the comfort that the ills of society are the fault of others.

Hi Chebob,

I'm not saying that 'rap' and 'media' doesn't play a role, I am merely eluding to the fact that they are not all inclusive; that they are not the only culprits to the problem(s).

Well, I guess thats a less heated way of saying what I was thinking....I don't think blame can be placed on one thing, cos there's a hell of a lot wrong with the world and most of it warps minds in some way or another, and it is because we're letting it happen.......It's just a shame most people are too greedy or big-headed to admit it

Let me rephrase that "People who listen to that gangsta rap, and the outragounes in the media is destroying America". You can get away with too much. Read "The Savage Nation" by Michael Savage, it will tell you what I mean.

As an aside, are you guys aware of the significance of Baden Powell, founder of the Boy Scout movement, in Freemasonry? Is it ever considered a recruitment channel for Masons, as in other countries?

TC, I believe both the Boy Scout movement and the gay community are sub-cultures, with their own values, rules and norms, by definition.

I am very pleased that TC believes a 'redneck' can be open to criticizing and rejecting 'evil plans' of government - especially if it includes the possibility of rejecting the current administration, who espouse certain redneck values, definitely - but who, ever since the unelected political appointment of puppet Bush, have been very happy to deceive their countrymen on the purpse of every act of foreign policy or military aggression.

You are in that position - having to distrust everything arsehole Bush tells you, and (if you bother) putting it into the categories of 'promise never to be fulfilled', 'new lie' or 'cover-up to avoid being caught out for previous lie'. There is hope while rednecks can critically analyze and dismiss this arsehole ans his fellow criminals, but I am not as confident as TC is that they can.

Leveller, thanks for unbundling the rubbish in the original quote in this post with your good eye for detail. I support what you said about the content and tone of that quote.

I have no doubt that in your liberal world the Boy Scouts of America is a subculture. By definition, even. That, sir, is just plain ignorant. You realize, don't you, that before the liberals started pushing to destroy the American society in the 60's that we had a culture? It wasn't multi or plural, it was American. The Boy Scouts of America teaches young boys how to be good men. It teaches them everything from rope-tieing, enjoying the ourtdoors, to proper courtesy. There's nothing "subculture" about that.

Homosexuality, by definition isn't a subculture, either. No more so than any other deviancy. Yes, you read that right, I said deviancy. For the last several thousand years it has been a deviancy, an immorality and an abomination and now, after the last 50 years and because you liberals tell me so, I'm supposed to throw out what God says and acccept the sin with open arms and say, "That's Great! It's just another lifestyle!" Yeah. I'll stick to my world that's rooted in something, not one that blows with the wind and the desires of a corrupt creature's heart (the condition of man).

As far as the "unelected political appointment of Bush", no matter what I think of Bush, I'm not so stupid as to believe a liberal lie that has already been disproved an hundred times over. If your definition of redneck is "Being too discerning as to buy liberal bullcrap", then, yes, I am a redneck. What the world needs is a few more rednecks.

Leveller, you have some twistings in your facts above, and you totally missed some points altogether, but I'll be back to help you understand. You can count on me, buddy! You know how summertimes are for Dads, we are kept busy. I'll be back, though.

TC

Semantics: subculture = a distinct network of behaviour, beliefs and attitudes existing within a larger culture. Nothing value-laden. "Sub" doesn't mean "less than" or "worse than", it means "subset of".

Boy Scout movement = subculture. One that meets your approval.

Homosexuality isn't subculture, you're right, I didn't say it was. It's a sexual orientation. But the gay community is a subculture. Unless you deny that the gay community exists, or you personally go and deal to every 'chocolate-dipping deviant no-good faggot' yourself.

I'm prepared to say "Hell, Yes" to life as an American under the Bush administration. It just depends where you put the em-PHAS-is. Life is hell in a divided, corrupt, greedy fast buck world mismanaged by these cretins.

I missed the 100 disproofs of Bush's political appointment. The counting of votes was not complete in the 2000 election before the Supreme Court stopped the count and appointed the PNAC puppet. What exactly did I miss?

My aim wasn't to tell you that the statement at the start of this post is wrong. If you want to live your life that way, dude, then go do it!!! Damn, it's a free world!!!
But when you live like that you have to make sure that you aren't making enemies.

I guess I'm a Republican at heart. I'm UK and I vote for the party that here that most resembles the Republican Party.
My aim in my post was to show you how easy it is for us to make enemies.

It doesn't mean that we're wrong. We just aren't communicating with each other properly.

See, I have a conspiracy theory.
I reckon if we can cut through all the bull#, the prejudice, the lies, the fear, the hatred and all of the other weaknesses that we inflict on each other, the picture will be a helluva lot clearer.

We don't have to lose any of our beliefs, our cultures, our individuality. We have to look at things from the point of view that everybody who we disagree with is right. You've got to realise that you're right too.

Before you take a look at the world, try to understand yourself and your fellow man. Try to look at things from every angle. Always put yourself in the other guy's shoes.

You can't understand the world until you understand yourself.

I believe that once you get that far, you will start seeing what is out there. You will recognise the truth for what it is because you will have a better understanding of man.

Another example of primitivism combined with praising of body pleasures which would result with violence and total disaster.

Also:

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If that ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system thats better and pout you name on the building. Ask you buddy that invented the Internet to help you.

Invent better Operating System? There is, stupid.
Mac OS X, worlds most advanced system (www.apple.com/macosx) I happen to work on it right now and I can comfirm the claim. It is ignorance and stupidity of people why Windows are mainstream operating system. But as I said, hail to the Mac OS X, the only good existing alternative to Windows on the planet for people who think different.

America! We love you! How many people are proud to be citizens of this beautiful country of ours? The stripes and the stars for the rights that men have died for to protect
The women and men who have broke their necks for the freedom of speech the United States government has sworn to uphold, or so we're told...

Jedi, for your comments about rap music I have taken the liberty of nominating you for the next moron award.

I have also taken the liberty to post the lyric's of rapper eminem. The content at times may be objectionable but my reasons for doing this should be obvious to even the most stupid readers.

Come on TC and I are'nt rednecks. We are just gun-happy.

Maddas, gangtsa rap and Eminem are immoral as Hitler was evil. It teaches kids bad things, like drugs and language I would never let my kids listen to Eminem. 50 Cent was a former crak dealer, they are all in drugs.

The USA is going downhill moraly since the 60s when the liberals took over. I wish I could've been born then the 40s or 50s.
