Capitol Police always provide the security detail for members of Congress, regardless of location. However, only leadership is required to have a security detail.

I have to agree with you on that RG.
I've been against those games for 50 years.
They were elected to legislate, not play baseball.
Had they not been there participating in that childish foolishness ,no one would have been hurt.
These events already cost the taxpayers a fortune, now it will be 10X.

Seems like Majority Whip had a detail on the scene..

Alex Police chief and Capitol Police just gave a very short presser..

5 in the hospital... no details, planning on a presser in a couple of hours...

Or you chose to see it that way. I read it as Scalise is merely a lesser known, lesser controversial politician.

Regardless, we have nothing to suggest, as of yet, that Scalise was a specific target.

I can only imagine the hysteria if this shooter had turned out to be Muslim.

Although, it's interesting that the gunman would start shooting at the one person on the field who brought his own security team.

There was a way to say that.

Going off on hyperbole about trump pence and sessions are horrible people that JUSTLY have people that hate them, after people have been shot is disgusting partisanship of the highest level

I read that, I guess even here in ATS is ok for Republicans under the Trump administration to be shot because the liberal media creating a mass hysteria to fuel violence said is ok.

Very disturbing when you read about the state of mind of some.

So TWO republican lawmakers were shot: Scalise and Williams of Texas.

They do this once a year to raise charity for disabled children. I have no problem with that!

Agree. We don't pay them for that. Charity or no charity. Let them participate in these things on their own time, back at home or travel to it at their own expense. But every second they spend in DC is billable to the American people. Yet the tax laws are so convoluted and oppressive that the average person has to be very careful that they don't break the law accidentally just claiming a deduction.

Dead politcians? No real loss to the word then.

I'm sure the gunman shared your thinking.

Dont support him. Just dont have much care really.

Rather not see gunmen or terrorists but if they are going to shot and blow things up then better politicians than normal people.

www.actionnewsjax.com...

Florida Congressman Ron Desantis said Wednesday that he was at the scene of the Alexandra, Va. shooting before the shots rang out.

Desantis, who represents Florida's 6th district, says he had a “very strange” encounter in the parking lot with someone who wanted to know if they were "Republicans" or "Democrats" playing baseball.

How many people here were aware of the charity game, that it was coming up, when practices were scheduled to happen?
I am just curious as to how the shooter had planned this. It doesn't seem like a random attack. There must have been some research and planning that was involved.

It's been reported that the practices were well known in the area.
The big game was supposed to take place tomorrow.
