Scalise is Minority Whip so he might get a detail

Rand Paul was asked by a FOX reporter if he himself had security hired, to which Rand Paul correctly answered with "That is not to be discussed."

But I think Paul confirmed that Scalise had security with him and that his security was the first responders.

The part I'm confused by is that Paul said that Scalise's detail acted faster than Capitol Police. But shouldn't Scalise's detail have been made up of Capitol Police?

He had his own personal Capitol Police detail and also there were Capitol Police stationed at the front of the park, apparently, each morning of practice.

I figured that was the case. Just the way Paul phrased it made it sound like Scalise's detail was not connected to Capitol Police.

Just leaving a quick update:

Two Capitol police officers and two or three congressional staff members were among the wounded, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky said on CNN.

The shooter "was going after elected officials," Brooks said, noting that the location of the congressional practice session was well known in the area.

One person, not a member of Congress, was shot in the chest and appeared to be the most seriously wounded, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) told reporters.
