BREAKING: House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, multiple aides shot at Congressional baseball practice

Alexandria police said earlier Wednesday they were responding to a "multiple shooting" in the city. The tweet also said the suspect is in custody.

CNN says he is in custody not dead. Things will probably change a few times before we get the correct story though.

Up to 50 shots within 10 minutes.

This question warrants a "simple" explanation. I think it would be safe to assume that hate and/or anger was the motivation.

I hope to God this is related to an affair, mob hit because of back dealing, or even a high profile rub out.

Anything instead of a political revenge killing.

If those start up we can just chuck this timeline right out the window. This is the alternate reality where that happens.

That depends on what rifle and what kind of magazine, if any, it was capable of being loaded with.

For example, fifty shots with some kind of bolt action rifle, either 5 or 10 round box fed, would be laborious. But some kind of AK or AR, with a fifty or one hundred round drum magazine slapped in it, would make the whole process easier and quicker, especially if the shooter had modified the rifle for ease of handling with that particular magazine. There are things that can be done to triggers, for example, to make them smoother to operate, choices of bolt that can be made which improve reliability and ease of control.

There are many variables.

The irony is that lawmakers to both parties engaging in sports competition seems like such a healthy way to interact...blow off steam, compete in a fun and bonding manner.
