fight that war?

What war? It was a police action...They had no choice due to conscription - a fine piece of American history

en.wikipedia.org...

Vietnam Conflict[edit] The term "Vietnam Conflict" is largely a U.S. designation, it acknowledges that the United States Congress never declared war on North Vietnam. Legally, the President used his constitutional discretion—supplemented by supportive resolutions in Congress—to conduct what was said to be a “police action”

Semanticaly it was a police action.

Literally it was a war.

Whatever congress called it, it was a war. 30,000 americans didnt die from combat in something that isnt a war.

As I find with many things, there's a George Carlin joke that sums up my feelings on this

"Pride should be reserved for something you achieve or obtain on your own, not something that happens by accident of birth. Being Irish isn't a skill... it's a genetic accident. You wouldn't say I'm proud to be 5'11"; I'm proud to have a pre-disposition for colon cancer."

Don't get me wrong I like it here in the USA very much. The scenery's beautiful, Beaches are nice, I like my neighbors, every Mexican I ever met was the most honest, hardworking dude on the block and I never met a Canadian but they seem cool as hell. But this Nationalist, Pride hoo-haa just seems like Thought programming to me.

We don't have a country.
We never did.
We are merely the military arm of the banker elites. Even when we were formed, the actions were in motion to maintain control over the revolutionaries that formed this country. It was paid for way back then.

We've been fooled from the beginning that we are our own country. Socially engineered into patriotism for a nation that doesn't truly exist and is dangling on the edge of destruction at the whims of the elite who run our "government" through the CIA. The inescapable massive debt is in their hands on when they decide to crash our economy and begin to cull our nation into a more controllable communistic NWO society after a great many perish.

If we wanted to save what remains of our constitutional ideal that WOULD have made a good country, we should have destroyed the bankers years ago. It's far too late at this point to stop them due to the debt, social divide, engineered ignorance and apathy of the people who live in the U.S. Their plans are well in action and it's up to them when we go up in smoke.

There's nothing to be proud of.

Yes except the USA invented itself when the founding forefathers got together on bunker hill and signed the declaration of indepandance.

If Britain hadn't put The Colonies there, there would have been no colonies to fight for independence.

As i said, Britain invented The U.S.

Cat got your tongue?
You were quick to come out with an unsavoury sexist comment about menstrual women, so please do explain or I'll assume you are just being a prick who has no argument to my reasoned points.

See what I mean.

Nope, you haven't really explained what you mean. I was on topic regarding your comments about Polish people, how about challenge my opinion if you have a problem instead of making silly comments regarding menstrual women.

I have done this member the courtesy of abiding by their suggestion that I ignore them. This member will not show me the same consideration and keeps asking me to reply to subsequent questions.

Because of there atroscious fishing policies.

Do you mean their atrocious fishing policies?
Are you proud of US members disregard of spellcheck as well?
You do not appear to use it when you rant on ATS.

Stop whining.
I told you in the Queen's birthday thread that if you ignored me I'd stop replying to your royalist fawning.
This is a different thread, get over yourself, I'm replying on topic and your generalisation about Polish people was ridiculous.
Challenge my posted words instead of whining about the poster.

*edit*
You could even tell the class why you are proud of your hereditary head of state if you like. That would be on topic, go on share with everyone why you are a proud royalist, who knows, maybe you'll influence my thoughts.

I have chosen to ignore the member on their suggestion and I am going to continue to do so. The fact that the poster did not intend my ignoring them to continue outside of the thread mentioned is not my concern. The opinion the member holds of me for this choice, or anything else is matter of complete personal indifference.

Why be involved on a discussion site if you only discuss things with people who agree with you?
Anyone would think you were raised in Brixham and not Torquay with such a closed minded fisherman attitude lol

The member is attempting to infer that I will only have discussions with people that I agree with because of my refusal to enter into a discussion with them. That is completely incorrect, it is this member, and this member alone that I will not enter into a discussion with.

Pride cometh before a fall..

Pride does go before the fall, so let me say that I am pleased with my country in many ways and displeased in some ways, but I am even more pleased and proud of the relationship between the United States and Canada.

It is a peculiar relationship. It is a little like one of those cases you see on YouTube where a rhinoceros and a dog have been together since they were infants. A paradigm was established in childhood of lots of togetherness, lots of play, lots of yielding to the other's occasional truculence but over all a warm friendship.

The wonderful thing is how this paradigm of mutual respect endures even in adulthood when the power imbalance is glaringly obvious to everyone except the two old friends who largely treat each other as they always have since childhood.

I think that is unique in the world.

Lol, cool ignore me if you are not confident in your assertions, I'll carry on criticising your ridiculous post that polish people should be proud as hard workers with beautiful women.
As I said originally (on topic) I know Polish men who'd knife you in a heartbeat in between beating their less than beautiful women.
Your stereotype is purely anecdotal and frankly quite pathetic.
Not quite as pathetic as loving a constitutional monarchy, but close.

This is a simple question answer op…

I am an American and I'm proud of my country because we walked on the moon, split the storm and created the best form of republic since it's inception in Ancient Rome who adopted democracy from Athens...

As a child of British imperialism I feel a kindred bond with Canada, Australia, India, and all former British colonies...

Aside from the moon and the atom splitting the point of pride highest [on my radar] is the society of Japan...
Japan's existence is a direct result of American Exceptionalism and her perfect constitution is proof of our founders brilliance and the beneficence and magnanimity of my personal hero Douglas MacArthur[with additional thanks to General Whitney and Colonel Kades with respect to the Japanese Constitution]...

Anyhow, I digress...

The point of the op is is to gauge the amount of national pride at TS…
I am a Texan who loves his country and has immense pride in the accomplishments of my fellow citizens and of the accomplishments across the globe from the various wayward children of Britain's mighty imperial era...

So what say you ATS...
Are y'all proud of y'alls country?
If so why or why not?

-Chris

Wish people had the same pride and love for the planet instead of just their country. Maybe the world would be a better place.
