I read that much of A Song of Ice and Fire was inspired by the Wars of the Roses. The primary houses involved in the conflict were, of course, the Lancasters and the Yorks. Easy to see which family is which in ASoIaF

Sheddite Announcement: Since I will be away for most of Blue's Birthday, I want to see a nice party in here or a thread even. That will be Sunday! I left special orders for the pixies to make sure there is a special cake and plenty of drinks and food. Or...you could bring your own goodies to share. There will be a pajama party following. Don't want anyone going home drunk. Even a dragon ride would be dangerous as you might not hold on tight enough. Ya know?

Well, the first book is in fact called Game of Thrones, but the series as a whole is called A Song of Ice and Fire.

I agree though - "A Song of Ice and Fire" is much cooler. Although, there's one called "A Storm of Swords", and another called "A Dance with Dragons" - both of those titles are pretty good.
