Remember though that this needs to pass parliament first but I imagine it will.

2/3rds majority in the Commons, I just heard, to pass the motion for a GE.

Labour are stupid enough to vote for it though, even though I think they will get wiped out.

Labour don't have much choice. Vote for it and likely be beaten, or don't vote for it and lose any remaining credibility they have as it would be an admittance by labour that they don't believe they represent the country.

Can't argue with that, though I do think, from their point of view, voting for a GE is the worst of the two moves. They will lose MP's.

I wonder how it will play out with the pro/anti Corbyn thing within the party. A really bad result could see them split again, like they did with the SDP.

June the ninth could be the day when what's left of Corbyn's parliamentary party walks away from him. New leader, new party if necessary.

She did it because she knows full well Labour will get annihilated.

This leaves me stuck.

I don’t know who to vote for.
Lib Dems can go to hell.
Labour can shove it.
And as much as I like my local MP sthe Tory’s cuts on disability are amoral and disgusting so they can go jump off a cliff.

It is likely why May asked for it.

She is ruthless and can see a GE vote now would eliminate most her opponents in the commons with the exception of the SNP.

I know exactly what you mean.

I aint a natural Tory voter, but I think Brexit, getting it right is way more important than anything else right now, so I will swallow the little bit of vomit that will no doubt be in my mouth and put my mark in the Tory box this time.

At this point I think it all comes down to Brexit, if you're leave, you really have no choice but to vote for the Tories.

As a working class leave voter I can handle 5 more years of the Tories, I cannot handle a lifetime of the EU.

Smart move. Calling the election when the opposition is at one of it's worst points in history.

I'd vote for you.

Tories are death by a thousand cuts and the others....

Well....

They present no realistic opposition at all.

I very much doubt that the outcome of a snap general election, would alter the fact of the British Exit from the EU. However, it might alter the methodology applied to making it happen, which, if this current mob are anything to go by, would be a bloody good thing.

I for one will be doing my part to try and get rid of these corporatist swine from government, ensuring that whatever happens next is managed with compassion not contempt, with society in mind rather than at the rear of the queue, as it has been for decades. I very much look forward to it.

Those Conservative M.P.'s who dislike Brexit are also facing a dilemma, for that matter.
Their party will be officially standing for election as the Brexit party. They will be obliged to toe the line (that's toe, not "tow") or get out.

Election it is!

Wow,
another attempt to derail our referendum result perhaps?
Or is she seeing it as her chance to gain a huuuuuge majority now that Labour is in such a mess?

My thoughts exactly. Lots of Column "A" and some of column "B", I suspect. Some strategic political scrambling to try and unhook the referendum results and calm the Scots.
