Excellent, well thought-out post, MuzzleFlash! The older you get the more you'll understand that countries have been rising/peaking/declining for millennia. Lots of problems and lots of prosperity right now in the USA. We're probably still at the PEAK. Only future historians will know for sure where 2017 plots, on America's rise/peak/decline graph.

Well done S&F.
I make it a point to remind everyone I talk to about politics that this whole mess is mainly due to our lack of political activism as a nation.

Thanks!

Keep reminding them!

Agreed to an extent. But, I've got a news flash for you!

"But can you think of any real problems that face America today that we didn't create by our policies and refuse to address properly?? "

News flash.........we didn't create the policies.......the crap bastard rich elites that run everything create the policies. If "we" the people created "policies" Beer and Chocolate would be free! The wealthy created the Viet Nam war with their policies and sent the sons of the poor to fight it. Nothing's changed in any of that regard.

Are you suggesting that other nations would not do the same exact stuff to us?

Im not saying it is right or wrong.

I just dont think that you have enough information to make this claim.

Or the pay grade.

But hey,

Atleast we are still on top of the pile.

USA

WOW!!! That is truly saying it all! I have nothing but praise and respect for you! Youve not just 'hit the nail on the head', you drove it home!

I believe the reason people cant see the big picture (like you have), is on account of our 3 second attention spans.
Its always, "whats the problem? Ok do this to fix it." Instead of, "how did this problem come about? What can we do to prevent....." A majority of People dont want to think, or look into root causes at all.

Standing ovation for you

That's a very interesting point.
I'd think we are around the peak but only the future will tell...

Thanks for posting!

I stopped reading at "hundreds of military bases". Why should I take you seriously if you're starting with blatant lies?

99% of those "military bases" are broom closets. It's just a shocking sounding fake statistic used for shock value. It's not actually true.

The US is like a dog that just finished killing a porcupine and needs the quills pulled out . The problem is ,is that they are going to go through the pain and be awake while all the quills are removed ...Its not going to be pretty to watch or listen to for the rest of us either.

The MSM hopes we blame everyone except ourselves and our government officials.

I anticipated that at least a few people would jive with what I'm brewin!
Thanks!

THIS is the one thing we, seemingly, LeftRightMiddle can come together on. It's our damn responsibility for letting it go on for so long: Our foreign policy sucks. It's destructive. It kills babies. It makes the world hate us with damn good reason. We need to DEMAND a different course of action. Congress needs an enema.

Together we can bring a lot of force to bear. Imagine if we stopped bickering and all started hammering this important topic above all the crap the MSM wants us to squabble over. The roar would be deafening and babies would thank us. We could actually be as noble as we like to imagine ourselves to be while being silly and partisan in ATS threads. SHAME on us.

Empire building is evil. The following is one of the ways it's justified:

Realpolitik (from German: real "realistic", "practical", or "actual"; and Politik "politics", German pronunciation: [ʁeˈaːlpoliˌtɪk]) is politics or diplomacy based primarily on considerations of given circumstances and factors, rather than explicit ideological notions or moral and ethical premises. In this respect, it shares aspects of its philosophical approach with those of realism and pragmatism. It is often simply referred to as pragmatism in politics, e.g. "pursuing pragmatic policies". The term Realpolitik is sometimes used pejoratively to imply politics that are coercive, amoral, or Machiavellian.

Realpolitik is often confused with the philosophy of political realism. Political realism is a particular modern, descriptive paradigm, or theoretical and methodological framework, aimed at describing, explaining and, eventually, predicting events in the international relations domains. Both are often believed to suggest working from the hypothesis that it is chiefly based on the pursuit, possession, and application of power. (See also power politics) However, some International

I find that semantics to the point he was making...

If we have hundreds, 153, or 97.. the point still remains..

Agree or disagree with the point... I'm not saying that makes the point right or wrong..

But the keystone would in no way be "if we have more than a 199+ military bases.

Bravo for having the courage to speak what is truth. I agree with you 100% bit when trying to voice this most of the time I get looks as if I am completely crazy or a traitor and the only solution is to show how big and powerful we are.

That is NOT the solution. We are the bullies and we need to quit.

The way I looked at it was this:

America loves (in a sadistic and masochistic way) being scolded for it's own hypocrisy.

That's because our mentalities are hypocrisy on top of hypocrisy on top of hypocrisy...
So they'll enjoy this thread.

No I did not suggest that.
I did not infer that.

I was pointing that our problems are the result of our failed policies.
Thank you.

great OP. You sound a lot like Ron Paul. Posting truth that we all need to keep at the forefront of our minds, but try really hard to suppress it. It would be really cool if the dip#s who make decisions would read this and apply the lessons to future endeavors, but sadly, I just don't see it happening like that. Hope all is well with you brother.

You are quite welcome.

Failed policies???
Nobody is perfect.

Last I checked Ole Glory is still on the pole.

Ever stop to think that these "failed policies" might be why?

It could be worse.

This thread sickens me. If each of you really feel that this country is so bad, how can you live with yourself? Do you think you are somehow above everyone and you can just sit back and criticize? Do you think that ranting on ATS somehow makes you different and you are doing your part in society to make up for ills in the world? Get over yourselves if this is all you can do with your life.

I'm willing to bet that most of you come from a childhood where you got plenty to eat, designer clothes and all the toys you wanted at Christmas.

As I've said in other posts, I was not born in the USA and I am American by choice not by birth. I still travel the world and see how other people live and from what I've seen, I will fight for this country for all it's good and bad.

By the way, the device you are using to post on ATS is possible from an American invention known as the microprocessor! ATS is connected to a network called the Internet which comes from the US military! Some of the facts you type you probably looked up on Google, a revolutionary concept that indexed content on the Internet and was invented by two brilliant kids on the west coast!

I think you have missed the plot. It's possible to still have pride in our country and pride in being American but still have the ability to recognize cause and effect. We have made a lot of mistakes along the way, some of them causing the current situations we have to deal with today. All in the name of globalization. If we learn from those mistakes, and interfere in other countries affairs less, we will have less "blow back" from those who we have pissed off.

(I invite you to look up that word "blow back" and see what it refers to.)

God Bless America.
