No. I've interacted with you here for a few years, and have a very general idea of your character. Or, to state otherwise: i only remember the folks worth remembering.

RE: your other question....its not hard for white folks to admit that some white folks are racist. Whats hard is for white people to feel a need to apologize for the actions of someone else. I think a statement that is more apropos would be, "Some people are asshole, and there are many different kinds of asshole.

I think if someone wants honest discussion, where people let their guard down, they you have to not make the discussion accusatory. Otherwise, you get defensiveness. What else did you expect?

They aren't though. The racists are simply a tool like a gun or a garden rake, used to serve a purpose. There is no race. It doesn't exist. It's a fiction, a lie. Keeping that fiction strong, which is the purpose racists (be they the benevolent or the malevolent variety) serve, often unknowingly.

What you fail to understand is that any act which does not discourage the concept of race, and push towards making us one people, even if that act is done with the best intentions serves to promote and prolong the existence of racism by giving the very foundation they rely on strength. The only way to end racism is to remove the foundation on which it stands. If we do that we take the tool away from the dividers. It honestly is that simple. Deny race, and promote that denial. Eventually if you can get enough people to follow suit, the very concept of racism becomes a laughable joke, because it'll become universally recognized that only ignorant people believe in such backwards thinking. Racism cannot be fought with racism. It's a war of ideology and the only way to win that is by promoting the ideology that actually solves the problem.

Stop thinking in terms of us vs. them and instead think in terms of ideas vs. ideas. You want to win people over to the truth, that there is no race, we are all human and all deserve to be treated equal. You can only do this by being inclusive not exclusive. I can't remember who it was, but there was a video floating about involving a black man who went out, purposely connected with, and through his actions converted members of the KKK away from hatred and bigotry ultimately resulting in them renouncing the clan. That's how it's done.

Like i have said before, I like the way you think. We are actually alot alike, just I point out racism and bigotry. I dont want to normalize it. I do support minorities and although I have not participated in any protests, I totally would if time would let me.

In my real life outside of ATS, i will say that I do act more like you do here. I do want us all to get along. I dont hang out with bigots, I keep my distance, but if I ever did fall upon one in the grocery store...yelling at a mexican to go home...id like to think I would step in and point out their hatefulness, or just say something like "this is their home".

How i really feel, the bigot IS to blame but i was trying to sugar-coat it bc I do understand if someone is raised in thinking hate and bigotry is normal...I feel for these people. Its hard to admit that your parents were wrong about minorities.

but there is the chance to do the right thing, change your ways and live a happier life.

Racism is not exclusive for white people. It comes in all shapes and forms. I have no problem with calling white people racist if they do racist things but if i accuse other races of doing exact the same thing. Some people spring to action and defend them for being racist no matter how stupid or illogical the reason is. This pisses me off because that double standard is reaching new heights that have no place in a civil society. We all bleed red period. No pun intended.

There is a whole debate in germany were people still argue about if we are supposed to label islamic terrorist as islamic terrorists anymore because it's racist. Newsflash if you are a fracking piece of crap islamic terrorist blowing up innocent people for daesh because well infidels i'm going to call you out. This is not racism and it never was. The current young generation has completely lost it and i fear for the worst if this continues unchecked. This generation is ironically one of the many reasons why a far-right party called the AFD is getting supporters left and right because they are fed up with this pc crap. This party is extreme as it gets and one of there points is to deport all muslims if they win. Trumps EOs are childs play compared to these idiots and there ideas. The same goes for the Netherlands and France. I for one don't support neither of them but it indicates how the people react if they think a government fails them.

You are correct, they all come in different shapes, sizes and colors. I thought that was assumed when creating this thread. This thread concentrates on the white American bigots. That is not to say that they are the ONLY ones.

I think one solution to fight racism would be for everyone to first understand what exactly it is...then to encourage people to look deep within themselves to see if they are a racist and be encouraged to change for the better.

To ignore it, turn a blind eye and hope it fixes itself is pointless.

I like how the author of the article streamlines racism during the civil unrest to racism today...he is right.

Indeed. Or my family back in the deep dark of the pre-Civil War south, who ran waystations for the Underground Railroad, at considerable risk to themselves.

I think the article is great. Some very cogent points are made like people professing to be colour - blind and yet seeking colour differences. The author also observes that the modern Germans are more apologetic of their past than some modern whites are of their own racist past.

All that I know is that I get up in the morning and give thanks. (5% of the time I am not aware of being black. I have friends who have all skin tones and even then we do not focus on colour. Some of these people would take a bullet for me and I for them.

Also I am privy to various black-only discussions and most of the time no one even mentions whites. it is more about other issues and ideas.

Have I suffered racism probably recently. It took the white-collar path. And it was the subtle comment that "they would not accept him as a manager". Make of that what you will. How did I feel? Well shame on them. Onwards and upwards for me!

If I am as clever as I think then I should be able to outthink a racist.

anyone can out-think a racist, they are dumb. Racism literally correlates with stupidity, there have been many studies done on this.

However, when one of these racist is in the position to shoot you or drive a paddy wagon all crazy...just bc he can... and get away with it, that is where the problem lies.

As you mentioned, it also lies within the workplace. I personally have never experienced blacks being shunned upon, even living in a deep red state...but I do not doubt it happens and if your supervisor is racist...they can hurt you financially and get away with it.

If it wasn't for white people stepping up blacks would still be slaves. The problem is they don't want equality which they most definitely would have now if they put just a little effort into it they want everything white people have earned through hard work and they want it for free. In life there are no free rides...stop buying, selling and using drugs and stop educating your children into your grandparents racism.
