We pay that for a house with between 2700 and 2800 sg ft!! Tons of space, for six people!!! You pay that for one bedroom??? Wow....knew it was bad, but didn't realize how bad!!!

YOU haven't said where you live.

CA is very diverse.

You want to live near the beach? You pay for that.

Other areas depend on what they have to offer.

No, I haven't. It isn't in California, thank God. Never will be, either.

I'm thankful I was born and bred in CA.

I don't have to unlearn anything.

Wow lots of ignorance in this thread and some good thoughts.

First off, Trumps threats may be a violation of the 10th Amendment and if you look at cases like Printz v. United States, CA may have a case.

California with the 6th largest economy in the world gives more in terms of federal tax dollars than it receives. If the Federal government cuts California off from funds why would they / should they then pay federal taxes? (We applies here as I am a resident of CA)

The secession movement actually has alot of steam and with the Democrats having a super majority its more of question of when the state declares itself a "sanctuary" state by act of legislature setting up a huge collision with Trump et al. So this is going to come to head sooner than later.

Edit to add: California produces over 11% of the nations food. Where are you gonna get your broccoli, artichokes, and brussel sprouts?

California leaving the Union is not a simple matter of Californians going to the polls. The US Supreme Court has ruled there are only 2 ways for a state to leave the Union - By force, which the movement in CA said is not an option or by consent of the states (plural).

In addition to CA voting to leave, it would have to be approved by the other states as well.

As for not paying taxes that would mean they are refusing to comply with federal law. That meets the requirement to place CA in a state of rebellion ad federalize the CA guard to enforce federal law.

It is the left coast.. Most are liberal democrats / socialists who think they are better than everyone else and everyone else is stupid. A simple review of posting history will bear that out.

I just can't believe we just don't have politicans acting like spoiled brats, we now have state governments doing the same?!?!

Does anyone in PROFESSIONAL POSITIONS I dunno, act professional?

Does california really not give a damn about Americans?

I mean, it's one thing to threaten the people you have an argument with, but to threaten the whole nation?

Where is the creative problem solving? All I see is, oh, well fine, you can't play with my hotwheels anymore, if I can't use your G.I. Joes.

There is a insanely huge issue of people acting like kids than professional adults.

I understand that some differences are taking place, but does California really speak for it's population and does the U.S. Government really speak for the public.

I know they're supposed to, but I'd like to see how that really measures up.

I agree. Its going to far more involved than a simple ballot measure, and lets face it, it not going to happen. That being said if Trump starts cutting off federal funds for political reasons and the Federal government is in violation of the 10th amendment, you can see why the "Leave" movement will pick up steam and there will be consequences. Lets face it, we have never been in this type of situation before with the Trump/Bannon combo and the endless threats and tirades

The states that get more assistance from the Feds than they pay will be naturally reluctant to give up the sugar daddy. Ironically lots of these 'dead beat" states are in the South.

Yes, we do give a damn and that's why we are not rolling over like many others. Just because I have a different view of say immigration does not make me ANY less of an American than you (I'm assuming you live in the US)

Actually the Government of California does pretty much represent its constituents. There is a supermajority in the legislature and every statewide position is held by a Democrat. If anybody is underrepresented its the independents like myself.

So Trump basically threatened to take away federal funding (defund the entire state) so what would you propose as a sensible reaction if this is done? How exactly does that threaten the nation? The Federal dollars that should have come back to California can go to to those states who lets face it are basically on federal welfare, and California can keep its own funds.

There is no constitutional guarantee the federal government will give states money. If the state is not going to comply with federal law why reward them?

If the Federal government is going to come in and simply take again what is the incentive to pay? Should all 24 states with legalized cannabis have their funding cut off?

By logic any state that has embellished Federal immigration law to make it harder on immigrants should also be defunded.

Its unprecedented in terms of the threat that was made. We are not talking about some highway funds because of a speed limit or drinking age, we are talking about ALL funding. The last time things got like that we had a civil war.

What kind of army does California have to back up their virtue signaling? If every Beta Male in California took up arms (Keep in mind Cali is anti 2nd) they STILL couldn't defeat those in the military on bases in their own state!

I live in LA county "ps LA is a big area composed of smaller regions" about 40 minutes from the beach and about an hour from the mountains. I live 30 minutes away from down town LA. Lol the neighborhood i live in is crap honestly. If you want cheaper rent you need to head far east of LA about a good hour drive from me where their are no jobs. However thats only going to drop the rent to like 900 dollars a month and you will pay that 200 dollars in gas getting to and from work.

Under the supremacy clause of the constitution yes they could have their funding cut.

Federal money to states, unless prescribed by congress, is not guaranteed. It can be reduced / canceled at any point.

Just look at the divide between Manhattan Beach and Costa Mesa, or Gardena, or Harbor City. Then their is Watts/Compton.

Non Californians don't seem to have a clue to the diversity.

I'm guessing these people miss the part where if they are just going to ignore Federal law, then they can just be sent to jail.

I guess I missed the part in Civics class where a governor is exempt from the law.

Let the incarcerations begin!!!!

I think half of the governors in my state blew that one
off too, Grey. At least 3 of the last 7 LOL.

It's all fun and games until the president threatens to
declare a no-fly zone over the whole state. See Tejas.
Good luck smuggling in all that perishable cargo you DON'T
grow, and I hear there's some big gaps in the food pyramid.

Anyway, if it gets to the point anchor fence goes up-- it'll
serve the rest of us better keeping the rapidly zombie-ating
hordes IN. WTH, the whole country is turning into an
open-air electronic prison anyway. I will admit though, some
cell blocks are suckier than others. Been there, done me.
