We are not declaring war, we would only be using force against a military target making an unwise theft of property. Firing on the ship after its refusal to return property is an appropriate course of action IMO. This was not an accidental allegedly) ramming or a salvage op from a sunken vessel. This was outright brazen theft of military technology in International waters.

Turkey and Russia did not go to war over a shot down jet and dead soldiers. China would not go to war over a shot up ship. But they may think twice about stealing technology from open waters again.

I pray the last thing you witness reach our lands is a war.
We here in the states are spoiled.
There is no fear of mines disguised as food relief.
No fear of our schools or hospitals being bombed from hourly airstrikes.
You may see his actions in regards to these confrontations as "spineless".

Thats right, a military that is given the right to defend itself from acts of crime by other factions. I cannot believe how unreasonable that is right?? I mean, like hello! Obviously the true mission of our armed forces is to retreat from hostile acts and just give the world all of our technology?? How could I have been so dense. Man, I really need to wise up.

FYI, single incidents between nuclear powers do not usually escalate to war. They lead to phone calls, stern talk, and assurances for future cooperation. I don't like to pay taxes for the most powerful armed force the history of mankind has ever known so they can just stand down while rival factions steal our technology from right in front of them. Thats BS, and you know it. That ship should be either getting towed to port for six months of repairs, or sitting on the bottom of the ocean.

We know damn well they only did this because they know Obama don't care to make us look weak to the big boys of the world and they want to get a quick one in before a real cowboy like Trump takes charge and says NO!

It is ridiculous when a vessel cannot prevent its property being stolen. It looks (and probably was) weak and cowardly.
What next? The Chinese steal the whole ship? better tell the captain to be on high alert.... no, not to fight back.... don't be silly..... I mean to raise the surrender flags.

That said, I'm sure that Obama will have some extremely harsh words for China that will no doubt have them quaking and begging for forgiveness. Sorry, think I started daydreaming for a bit there!

The anti-theft detonation is actually not bad.
I'm just not for armchair warriors throwing our troops into the flames of war
because their fake patriotic ego is bruised.

In effect it is piracy not so much an act of war. They took something in international waters that was not theirs to take. The reaction of the current government will be interesting to see but I am sure Trump is pissed as he should be.

War? No, I do not want war but we cannot be the biggest wimp on the world stage anymore. Damn right this would not have happened during other admins but the current one also let a Navy shipped be captured, our service people humiliated and THEN we gave them billions.

The islands are in disputed territory. I would send a few ships and park them off the coast. Not talking a carrier group but a show of force. Start military escorts of these ships? Well, then it shows espionage and makes them a target.

This is a game of global chess the Chinese are winning right now.
